Question:
Item # CE10100A40 I would like to install this item on an L shaped cross member of my kayak trailer instead of a square tube. Im not sure if a U-bolt is the appropriate fastener. I can drill a hole in the vertical of the cross member but not enough room to drill 2 holes for this bracket. Do you have any suggestions? I can send a pic if needed.

Expert Reply:
With mounting the CE Smith Bolster Bracket # CE10100A40 on an angle crossmember rather than a square you will want to use some square tubing to act as a gusset so a U-Bolt # CE15501A will hold the bracket tight against the crossmember. This will ensure it does not slide on the crossmember. I would not recommend drilling into the crossmember as it most likely is not large enough for multiple holes to secure the bracket properly.
