You know that split second when traffic ahead suddenly stops and you're forced to slam on your brakes? You glance in the rearview mirror hoping your trailer is stopping, not swaying, skidding, or jackknifing. That's when Lippert's anti-lock braking system earns its keep and this hub and drum are part of that system. The hub's toothy edge works like a tone ring. As it spins, sensors track wheel rotation and feed data to the ABS system, preventing lockup and giving you improved control when braking.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
Figuring out your bolt pattern is easier than it sounds. The first number tells you how many bolt holes you have, and the second is the diameter of the circle they sit on.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. For example, 8 on 6-1/2" means there are 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. For example, 5 on 4-1/2" means there are 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi, everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today we're looking at the Lippert 10-inch Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly designed for the 3500-pound trailer axles with a 5 on 4.5-inch bolt pattern, and specifically for ABS Lippert Trailer Hub and Drum Assemblies. So folks, one of the biggest advantages of this assembly is one, it comes pre-greased, right So less time, less effort. The bearings and everything are put in, ready to go from the factory. You can see the grease seal's already pressed in the back, as well. That's gonna save you time during the installation and help you get your trailer back on the road faster.
Now, as I mentioned, this integrated 10-inch brake drum is designed to work with those compatible electric and hydraulic drum brake systems that use the ABS system. So as you can see, this is basically what they call their ABS encoder ring. Some people call it a tone ring. Now, basically this notches here are what the sensor, the ABS sensor on the other part of your trailer, are reading as it goes by, making it work with that ABS system. Now, this has been built for durability.
It's designed to withstand the demands of highway travel, obviously heavy loads, frequent towing, those kind of things. And as you can see, you have all the bolts here, or I'm sorry, lug nuts here. The bolts already pressed in the hub. You get the grease cap with the rubber plug. You get the castle nut, the washer, the cotter pin.
So, again, this is a complete hub assembly ready to simplify maintenance and make your day easier. This is a 10-inch drum, again, for 3,500 pound axles, the 5 on 4.5-inch lug pattern, and the studs are 1/2-inch studs. Sent me a used burnt up brake drum
Bearings were not sufficiently greased for my liking. Came with a 2.125 grease seal. Had to replace it with a 2.250 for my axle.

Looks like things are generally okay, but the races were NOT pre-greased prior to dropping the bearing in. This means I need to pull the seals, grease the races, then put in new seals. This is an additional 20 min plus the cost of new seals, just to be able to say these hubs are in condition to mount. I will not give my customers hubs that are under-prepared because I don't want the reputation of having to redo a bearing job.
