Features to know about

Skip the Messy Bearing Work: Pre-Greased and Ready to Install

This Dexter idler hub comes pre-greased, so you can skip packing bearings by hand. It’s ready to slide straight onto your #84 spindle—no extra steps, no cleanup. The hub fits 3,500-lb axles and supports a 1,750-lb load capacity. Everything you need is here: inner bearing (L68149), outer bearing (L44649), races (L68111 and L44610), grease seal (58846), grease cap, and 1/2" lug nuts. It’s a full assembly that saves setup time and gets you rolling faster.

Keep Bearings Lubed Without Tear-Down: E-Z Lube Compatible Cap

Greasing your bearings doesn’t have to mean pulling the whole hub apart. The included E-Z Lube-compatible grease cap gives you direct access to the zerk fitting on your spindle. Just remove the rubber plug, attach the grease gun, and inject fresh grease—it flows through to both bearings. This keeps water and dirt out while preventing corrosion inside the hub housing.

Built for Steady Use: Strong Iron Hub Design

Durability matters when you’re towing over long distances or hauling in varied conditions. Dexter builds this hub from sturdy iron for consistent strength under load. Combined with precision fit bearings and races, it delivers smooth rotation and helps maintain even wear across your wheel setup from trip to trip.

Set Up Once, Fit Right Every Time: Standard #84 Spindle Dimensions

The hub is engineered for 3,500-lb axles using #84 spindles, making it straightforward to match with common replacement parts. The inner bearing has a 1.378" inner diameter and the outer bearing measures 1.063". Combined with a grease seal inner diameter of 1.719" and a 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern, everything lines up cleanly for an exact fit with 13"–15" wheels.

Simplify Upgrades or Restorations: Complete Fitment Solution

Whether you’re refreshing an older trailer or keeping a spare on hand for roadside fixes, this pre-greased Dexter hub makes the job simple. With included hardware and precisely matched components, you can restore reliable performance without chasing down part numbers or measuring spindles again later.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hard to find part (lugs on a 4.75 pattern), accurately described, arrived quickly, fit perfectly. Will definitely work with this outfit again if the need arises.

by:

Items arrived in record time, as described fender was great , hubs were excellent, had to paint them black to match the other two but they were great thank you. I have done business before with etrailer and will continue to do so in the future.

by:

just to let etrailer know how greatfull i am for the items i order. everthing i expected was on the order.the hubs i needed are hard to find( 5on 4 3/4 ).thanks to etrailer i can now put together my trailer.excellent information on products, service, and price as well.

by:

Good wheel hubs complete with all necessary mounting parts. Unfortunately one of the four hubs didn't have the correct grease seal with it. One seal instead of having two sealing lips, only had a single inner seal ring with no tensioner spring. If not for that one grease seal it was a good order, reasonable pricing and very quick shipping.

by:

Excellent quality hub from a well known and trusted manufacturer. 4-3/4" bolt circle not as common as most 4-1/2" bolt circle hubs offered by other vendors, but that suited my purposes perfectly. All parts were included, and I would buy this again without hesitation.

The Dexter "8-248" is a hub assembly for 3,500 lb axles that uses an L68149 inner bearing and a L44649 outer bearing. This hub assembly was offered in both 5 on 4-1/2" and 5 on 4-3/4" bolt patterns therefore you would need to confirm your bolt pattern in order to choose the correct hub. • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Hub
In order to find the correct replacement hubs for your trailer, you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease...

  • Replacing Dexter Hubs To Transition to a GMC Truck Wheel Bolt Pattern
To determine the correct hub to replace the existing hub on your horse trailer I will need the inner and outer bearing numbers and the seal part numbers to select the proper parts for your spindle.
