Do I Need To Bleed The Brakes After Installing Demco DM28CV Brake Actuator On Trailer?
Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/21/2025 >
Question:
can I install this myself without bleeding the brakes? I've never had to do that and don't want to take it to a shop and pay money. thanks for advice.

Derek, you’ll definitely need to bleed the brakes after installing the Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV. Anytime you swap actuators or open the hydraulic line, air can enter the system and reduce braking performance. We recommend a good two-person bleed or a vacuum bleeder for best results. Use DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluids.
I've attached a help article and video that covers brake bleeding. It's easy if you have a helper that can engage the brakes manually while you work the hydraulic valve open and closed at all of the valve locations.
