Features to know about

Confident Grip on Snow-Covered Roads: Diamond Pattern with 3.2 mm Square Links

When the snow stacks up or a steep icy slope stands in your way, the diamond pattern and 3.2 mm square links bite in from every direction to keep you moving. The diamond layout gives constant traction for smoother acceleration and braking, while the square links dig into snow and light ice for a steady, reliable grip. That steady pull helps keep control without the jolting ride you get from older ladder-style chains.

No Hassle Chain Setup in Winter Weather: Automatic Self-Tensioning Snox System

These chains were made for real-world cold weather use. You just stretch the Snox over your tires, drive forward, and they automatically tighten and center themselves. There’s no need to stop and re-adjust — the system does it for you as you roll. When you stop, the built-in tensioners release, and a quick-release latch lets you pull the chains off just as easily. Reviewers love how this design takes the struggle out of installation, even on the side of a snowy road.

Smooth Ride and Rim Protection: Class S Fit with Anti-Scratch Bumpers

If your vehicle has limited wheel-well clearance, these chains fit right in. They meet SAE Class S standards, extending less than 15 mm to the inside of the tire, so components stay clear. The built-in anti-scratch bumpers protect your wheel rims from metal-on-metal contact while you drive. The compact fit also helps the chains ride more smoothly and quietly on packed snow.

Built to Last Through Winter Roads: Nickel Manganese Alloy Steel Construction

Each link is made from nickel manganese alloy steel for strength and corrosion resistance. This material holds up well against repeated winter use and resists rust from road salt and slush. Paired with the sturdy 3.2 mm link thickness, these chains are tough enough to handle season after season of snow driving while staying compact and easy to store in their durable case.

Quick Emergency Traction When You Need It Most: Lightweight, Compact, and Ready to Go

Whether you’re headed into unpredictable mountain weather or just keeping a backup set for emergencies, these lightweight chains store easily and go on fast. They give you the traction to climb icy grades or get through fresh snowfall without delay — perfect for drivers who want dependable performance without the bulk or fuss of traditional chains.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Easy to put on! I have a 2023 Toyota Sienna with original tires 235/60R18 and the pewag RS80 fit perfectly. The pictograph instructions were easy to follow and the chains were quick to get on during my test fit. The instructions being in plastic could be helpful if they get wet and I really like the self tensioning aspect of these chains.

A few notes from the Toyota Sienna manual

1. "Vehicles with 17-inch or 18- inch tires Use SAE Class “S” type radial tire chains....Vehicles with 20-inch tires Tire chains cannot be mounted. Snow tires should be used instead."
-These Pewag tire chains are "s" type and the low clearance fit my 18" wheels easily.

2. "The tire pressure warning valves and transmitters may not function correctly when tire chains are fitted."
-If your vehicle cant read your tire pressure and you have chains on...no big deal.

I really liked the ease with which these chains went on and I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform in the snow.

I have yet to actually use them but the installation isn't too tricky or complex. Just make sure to follow the instructions on a dry run or two before you think you'll need them ;-)

by:

These are not easy to install with the wheel on the ground on a VW Jetta. I jacked up the car so there was plenty of room to work, and I could spin the tire to make the needed adjustments. Still not easy, but not bad. They work well, or at least as well as I need them to.

by:

My Mazda 3's tires are right at the top of the size range, 215/45/R18, and the tire chains fit! It was a bit hard to get them on, though. After fitting the chains loosely, we were struggling to lock the final hooks.

To lock the hooks, we ended up using one of the spare chains that came in the packaging to bridge that final 1-2 inches. Then, we drove a couple inches forward (until the we could hear the self tensioner click a couple times), and that gave us enough slack to connect the hooks without the spare chain.

I do not recommend using the spare chain to actually drive, unless they're professionally welded/attached, but they were super helpful for fitting the chains properly.

Image shows the chains mounted and the hooks properly attached, but with the auto-tensioner off.

I am not very handy and have no intention of installing my chains on the side of the interstate myself if I can help it. I chose these because they are self-tensioning and can be put on without laying on the ground to install them. I tested installing them twice at home, so I am ready in case of emergency when I visit the seirra's this winter.

Fast service. Excellent follow up.

by:

Got the shipment in great time. Won't know how the units work until the winter...
probably in Colorado going over one of the high passes.

by:

Received chains today and put them on the wheels in the comfort of warm garage. It was relatively easy process. I expect it to be similar on the cold road.

by:

The chains are excellent, very quick to get on and off and they got me through the snow and ice with no problems. I definitely recommend these!

by:

Great product and perfect fit. I would buy it again if needed be and would recommend to all. Looks great too...

by:

They worked great the first couple times we used them, but the elastic wore out quickly and had to cut one off.

by:

They were not easier to put on, and they promptly came off all together. I would have done better with a standard old school chain.

by:

This is a gift, so I have no way of knowing yet if the chains are a great product. I am however quite pleased with the quick arrival and customer service. Thank you!

by:

Very pleased with the fit and ease of installation. Met my expectations.

by:

I haven't used them yet but they look like what I wanted. Customer Service was very helpful and quick to respond.

by:

Well worth the money. Easy to get the chains on. Very acceptable traction improvement.

by:

Product is obviously of extreme high quality. I believe I will be very happy with the performance as well (we haven't used them yet). I expect the installation to be as simple as shown in the video(s).

by:

I mounted my Pewag Snow Chains (PWSXP560) today on a dry run. I was very impressed with the method of installation, as well as the ease of taking them off. I purchased them because of a very bad experience I had with chains previously. I was very uncomfortable driving in conditions that would require chains. With these chains I have confidence in using them should conditions require them.

by:

I can't give a complete review because we haven't tried them yet. Need to see how they work in the snow first but my first impression is a little less than satisfied. I have used may snow chains in my life but the material of the chains don't seem to be very strong and I don't know if they will hold up to the road test. I'm not feeling very confident that they will last one use. I bought these chains for my daughter's car and I love the ease of installation. I hope they get her home during her winter break from college.

by:

I ordered the SXP560 chains but received the SXP570 chains which are not for the size tires I have. I called customer service and they said they would resend the correct size and also send a mailing label to return the incorrect ones which would take about 1 hour to receive. However it's been about 12 hours and I still haven't received the return label. Note: If I receive the proper chains I will submit a new review.

by:

I have used them a few times now on snow and ice and they are great! Definitely worth the money! They are easy to put on and take off. Would be very helpful in emergency situations. Putting them on takes a bit more time than taking them off, but still just a few minutes. I was very surprised by how much traction they gave me in snowy and icy situations. These chains seem like they are durable and reliable. Definitely recommend! Also they delivered fast, which was good because I ended up needing them right after I got them.

by:

Fit snugly. Will be a little difficult in the snow but with a pair of gloves on it is doable. The red plastic rim protectors would protect rim from metal on metal contact. However, with my M-sport rims and Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires, the red plastic doesn't even come into contact with the rim due to the extended lip of the tire...but this does mean that the chain touches the outside surface of the tire--see pics. A little off putting scarring the sticky looking surface of the tire...but it is inevitable.

On the inside of the wheel/tire, my concern was contact with the knuckle, strut, end link, stabilizer, etc. It does get close to the stabilizer end link, but doesn't touch...my pictures are shown before self centering while driving...so the spacing to end link would only get greater as I installed in worst case scenario to compare.

I drive a 1996 Corvette and have for the past 20 years - year round. And that makes driving near impossible in Connecticut winters and hilly terrains. Until I got my Pewag chains. When the snow accumulates, on go my Pewags and away I go. Snow covered roads, no problem, up and down hills, no problem. I can put my Pewags on both tires in less than ten minutes and I am good to go. Great product! I highly recommend Pewag chains.
