Installation

Installation Step 1

1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Installation Step 2

2. Connect the yellow and blue cable at the back of the tire.

Installation Step 3

3. Push the cable into place behind the tire and center the cross chains on the tire's tread. Then, on the front side of the tire, join the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook.

Installation Step 4

4. Feed the silver draw chain with the rubber tensioner through the red channel at the bottom and pull it tight. Then run the tensioner through the red rings. (Note: Depending on your tire size, you might not be able to thread through both rings.) Pull the tensioner across the tire and fasten it to the yellow chain on the opposite side.

Installation Step 5

5. Pull your vehicle forward and retighten the chain.

Class "S" Designation

SAE Class "S" tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require Class "S" chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Tire Chains for Tandem Axle Travel Trailer With ST235/80R16 Tires
Hey Rob, welcome back! For your tandem axle travel trailer I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2319. These have a diamond pattern giving you more lateral stability, which is ideal on non-drive wheels. They also have built-in adjusters to keep them tight and secure. I'm assuming both axles have brakes so I would get a pair for each to keep braking and traction even. These are Class S compatible so clearance probably won't be an issue. However, I do recommend measuring...

I have a few different options for the 235/60R18 tires on your 2022 Honda CR-V and the difference really boils down to price vs quality. On the low end I recommend the Titan Chain kit # TC2319 which really is a quality set of chains for what they are. They have built-in tensioning and are Class S compatible so they are low clearance. The next step up is the Konig Self-Tensioning # TH01594247 which have a similar design to the Titan Chain kit but they have ice breakers in the middle of...

Your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited should have 235/65-17 tires (you'll want to verify this though), and for that the snow tire chains I recommend are from Titan: - Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2319 I like the # TC2319 because they are are a diamond-pattern - which is the pattern that allows for the most overall coverage on your tires - with square links, which gives you the best traction in snow but also grips ice if you encounter a wintry mix. And as for which tires,...

  • Use of Tire Chains on a 5th Wheel Trailer
Tire chains are usually only placed on a tow vehicle, and then only on the drive wheels. We do not have any experience with using or recommending them for use on the tires of a 5th wheel trailer. This is something I would approach very cautiously and only after contacting the trailer maker for approval. Have your trailer VIN handy when you call them. Chains vary in how much clearance they need within the fenders/wheel wells and this is an important consideration. Also, the specific tire...

For your 5th-wheel trailer with 235/80-16 tires, I recommend using tire chains on your braked axles. This is because you will get the most added traction out of chains installed on these tires. However, as with all tire chain applications, I recommend consulting with your owner's manual to make sure you abide by all guidelines outlined by the manufacturer. With that being said, we do carry great chain options for your tires. I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2007 Ford E-350 Van
The chain link thickness is the difference between tire chains # TC2319 and # TC2519. The smaller TC2319 has 3.7mm links whereas the TC2519 has 5.5mm links. I checked the owner's manual for the 2007 Ford E-350 and it does require the use of Class S chains. The TC2319 chains are Class S but the TC2519 chains are not. So between the two I would go with # TC2319 if your van has 225/75-16 tires. If you have a different tire size let me know.

  • Compatibility of LT vs P Tire Chain Sizing On a 1993 GMC Jimmy S15
Good news, I can help you with your tire chain inquiry. The LT and P designations are important when selecting tires, because not all tires are equal, but not when selecting tire chains. The # PW1042 cables are a listed fit for your tire size, and are S Class compatible which means that they work well with low tire clearance.
