1. Drape the chain over the tire and drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

2. Fasten the ends of the chain together.

3. Use the cam tensioning devices that are built into the side chain to tighten. Do this by inserting the flat end of the included wrench into the slot on each cam and twisting it.

4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Tensioners Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Today on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tensioners. Now, keep in mind the tire set we're working with today is 255/70 R17. These chains are built to give you traction through moderate to heavy snow and ice, and they're also going to hold up well to everyday use. The traditional ladder pattern is going to give you great traction through starts and stops, while the twisted links are going to be a lower profile while sitting on your tire, and give you a smoother ride, when you compare it to the standard square links. When working with a set of chains, keep in mind you are going to have some noise and some jarring while you're driving, but the twisted links are going to be much less noticeable, and cut down on that noise while we're driving. There are four of these cam tensioners around our chain, and they're there to take up the slack to give us a much tighter fit on our tire. These chains have a maximum speed rating of 30 miles per hour, and they come in a pair of two with this nice canvas bag for easy storage. Now that we're gone over some of those features, let's show you how they install.

The first thing you want to do is lay out your chains flat, and you want to make sure there's no kinks, twists, or tangles in the chain. To make sure that your chains are installed the correct way, make sure that your cam tensioners, which are these little half-circle things, are on the outside, facing away from your tire. Then also, you want to make sure that this lever is on the left side of your tire when you have it laid out in front of it. Once you've done all your checks, you want to grab ahold of it by the middle, and then drape it over the top and sides of the tire. Once you've got it draped, just begin to line it up at the bottom like this. Now, we're going to make our connection in the back.

We have this set of five extra links right here. Now, because this tire is one of the smaller tires that this chain can fit on, I know that we're going to go ahead and use the last link. You're going to grab it, and just go ahead and put it on that hook. Now we're going to make our connection in the front. We have the same number of extra links, so you want to make sure that you go to the number link that you went in the back, so we're going to go to the fifth one.

We're going to slide the latch through there, and then pull it down like so, and then put the little chain on the hook to hold it in place. Now, with the excess links for the front and back, you could do a couple of things. You can take it and zip tie it to the chain, you can go ahead and cut off the excess, since it's only going to fit your tire chain, or you can even bundle these up onto the little lever. Now, with our included tool. We're going to go around and tighten all our cam tensioners. All we're going to do is insert it in the slot, and then turn it clockwise.

Do that for all four. Now, because already pretty tight, we're going to go ahead and leave the last cam tensioner untightened. Now, the chains are snug against our tire, which is what we want. However, anything could happen out on the road, so your cam tensioners may come undone. That's why it's always nice to have extra security with one of these rubber tensioners. You can pick this up at etrailer.com under part number TCMA2. How they work, you want to take the hook right here and come under the chain, and then connect all of the hooks, and make sure you space them out as evenly as possible.Once you've completed all these steps, just repeat the process for the other side. If you have an all-wheel drive truck, and you want to have a set for the front tires, just use the same part number. Then once you've got all of your chains installed, it's a good idea to drive forward and then stop, and make any adjustments if you need to. There you have it for the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tensioners, on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Great product and even better customer service. I was extremely impressed by the service and fast delivery. The tire chains fit perfectly as stated for my tire size. The cams work great and came with the tool. I really like the weight of these chain and quality. These chain will live in my truck for the winter as a precaution as I do a lot of winter mountain driving and sometimes venture up old logging roads to get further into the backcountry. Hope I don’t have to use them but if I do I know I have a quality product on hand! 587647

I bought these chains for some 265/75R-16 and they are plenty big enough, in fact I had to cut and remove one cross link. Went on nice and tight, the cam tighten system works real well 584032

This set is being used on front tires of a 31 hp tractor for snow plowing. Another two pair I use on my Tundra while working on steep, slippery logging roads. The locking cams are absolutely great. No more worries about having a chain come and tear off a brake line. 590015

The delivery was quick and the packaging was very durable. Let me just add that the price is very competitive and customer service as excellent. Thank you and I'm sure I'll be purchasing more in the near future. Pictures of the snow chains mounted to come if I end up needing them on my snow trip in min Feb. 168652

The tire chains I ordered arrived on time as agreed. The quality and finish look good . The chains installed as expected (some adjusting is always necessary with chains) . In several days I may have a chance to test their quality as I am traveling into the mountains. 591074

I have not needed to put these on my truck quite yet, but these chains look very well made and will suit my needs perfectly! The customer service was amazing. I made a mistake and had to order 2 pairs and they called to verify this was correct, they did not want to bill my twice by mistake. I received my chains in the mail via UPS less than 5 days after I ordered them, despite it being the holiday season! Great customer service and look forward to doing business in the future! 320405

A Bag of Chains is better that a Sack of Coal for Christmas. Seriously, if it's slick outside from snow or ice, one bag of tire chains will get me home safely. With a rear wheel drive pickup, I would need 10 bags of coal to get a grip. I'm glad they came in a heavy duty canvas bag which takes up less room than a plastic box- that might not last a season. Also, etrailer.com had an easy-to-use tire size guide to match to the right products, and a good selection of products to choose from. Mainly, these chains give me the confidence to be the backcountry when the weather report is sketchy. 325459

Funny that you should write, were expecting snow tomorrow, so I put the chains back in the truck. Sorry, nothing else to report.

1999 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Good price so bought two pairs for 1999 4X4 F-350. Put them on and they fit, the cams are great Idea for snugging up chains. Do not have to rely on rubber tensioners that get old brittle when finally need to use them. Have not run them in snow yet but look like will be fine. Notice that these chains also cover a wide range of tires sizes, in case want to go up a tire size from stock they will fit. 331012

Haven't tried out the product so I can't comment on how they work however they did arrive on time. The bag they come in for storage isn't really what I expected and is of poor quality. The bag is more like a sack with no way to seal it and no handles. Not impressed in the bag which is supposed to be used for storage. 463160

I got the chains quickly. Boy are they heavy. Very good service from Shawn B. She sent a video showing how to put them on. I set up the tire, wrapping the chains on the driver's side. All worked well until I tried to close the cam locks. One was too tight and would not slide over the chain link. I took it to my workbench and filed the slot so it would clear the link. Also, these eat into bare asphalt, so watch what you are doing in your driveway. I am from Illinois where chains are not allowed. The reason that I have them is to meet a requirement in the western National Parks. Hopefully I will not have to use them, but am glad to have them if they are needed. 326052

Ford F-250 Super Duty

Not sure these chains would last on a Ford F250 diesel. They are really designed for light weight subcompact passenger car. We shall see .... I am not planning to carry any significant weight on the snow so they should hold up a few seasons. The price is awesome! 590890

Since the tire chains are made for a 265/75-16 wheel they should hold up on the Ford. Most trucks do have a larger tire on them but since you are not putting any extra weight in the back I do not see you having an issue with the chains.

This is the 3rd set of chains I've bought from eTrailer, the first 2 sets were for my work truck and this most recent purchase was for my personal truck. I work as a delivery driver and bought the first set of chains because i don't have a lot of say which snowy/icy roads i deliver to. Being a work truck the first set of chains got abused a bit so when they finally failed it wasn't unexpected, but up until that point they were nothing short of perfect. So far the 2nd set for my work truck is going strong (with a bit more effort not to abuse them as much). This 3rd set is for my personal truck and more for peace-of-mind than anything else, i doubt they will see more than extremely rare use but i have no doubts that they will work as well as i expect them to. I have not yet taken advantage of the "customer service" from eTrailer since every single thing I've ordered has been received and worked exactly as expected. Communication regarding my order and shipping has always been excellent and even better than i expected. Shipping has been super fast and I've received my products days before i thought i would. ***the picture included isn't exactly the best but you can see the chains and conditions that day (that truck is about the worst vehicle for driving in winter conditions)... also those chains are a different size but they are the same chains. 336478

2015 Dodge Ram Pickup

I had some concerns about the chains fitting my vehicle, 2015 Ram 1500 with P275/60R20. I couldn't find any information from Dodge, nor my dealer, but Etrailer.com just happen to have a video showing 3 options for my exact truck. I tried them on to make sure they fit, and they fit pretty snug and look like they will do just fine. I haven't tested them in the snow, but I will write a follow up review once that happens. 233458

- TC2228CAM

I got the chains on just before a big snowfall. I put them on my plow truck. (Silverdo with a 8’ meyers) what a difference. Plowed up and down my ice and snow covered 1/4 mike drive with lots of curves and hills. Couldnt be happier with the chains. It took me 2 hours to install them. Never had chains before. There is a learning curve. I expect it will take me 1/2 hour next time. The cam tensioner wrench is made of really soft steel and broke within 15 minutes. I would recommend spending the money for a better one. They about as much as a beer at a ballgame. 609662

Went through a couple different sets before biting the bullet on these babies. Easy install after very little adjustment. The cam option is definitely the way to go. 739952

- TC2228CAM

Delivered fast, popped these on to get gamiliare with them and actyally tested them out on a road that was snow packed solid ice, my truck would not spin... i tried to make it, but the chains would not allow it in my situation. Yes chains ride rough.. real rough to be honest, but its better than not making it to your destination. They are heavy ( a big pro) feel like excellent quality and would recommend them to anyone who lives in a state that allows them. 733178

While the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cams # TC2228CAM will fit the 265/70-17 tires on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, if you are worried about clearance I do not recommend these chains because they have a larger 5.5 mm link thickness. The square link chains are great for deep snow, and twist links are lower profile and rounder so they provide a smoother ride quality. Diamond pattern is also a bit smoother too since the links are angled across the tops of the tire. They also provide great turning traction too since the chain doesn't go perfectly across the top...
