Features to know about

Confident Driving in Snowy Conditions: Diamond Pattern Keeps You Moving

When the road turns white, these Konig tire chains keep you steady and in control. The diamond pattern provides constant ground contact for smooth acceleration and braking, while square links dig into snow and light ice for dependable grip. This design gives you consistent traction and a noticeably smoother ride than standard ladder chains, making it a great choice for winter drives or mountain roads.

Quick Tight Fit in Cold Weather: Built-In Assisted Tensioning

Getting chains snug around your tires in freezing weather can be tough, but not with these. The built-in assisted tensioners pull the chains tight without tools—just connect the color-coded hooks and clips, tug the tensioners, and you’re ready to roll. Because the tensioners are built in, you don’t have to worry about carrying or losing extra parts. It’s a simple design that makes a big difference when you’re on the roadside in the snow.

Step 1 of Konig tire chain installation showing chains laid flat on the ground to remove tangles before mounting.

Step 2 of Konig tire chain installation showing connection of blue cable ends behind the tire.

Step 3 of Konig tire chain installation showing red hook connected to red link at the front of the tire.

Step 4 of Konig tire chain installation showing tensioning chain being threaded through large clip at bottom of tire.

Step 5 of Konig tire chain installation showing tensioning chain fed through red clips and hook stretched across tire for secure fit.

Smooth Ride with Limited Clearance: Class S Compatible Design

If you’ve got tight wheel wells, these chains are made to fit. They meet SAE Class S clearance standards, needing only 1/2" of internal clearance. That means you can get the traction you need without the worry of rubbing or interference. They’re lightweight too, so you get solid performance without the rough ride that comes with bulkier chains.

Durability That Lasts Season After Season: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Construction

These chains are built to handle real winter use. The manganese nickel alloy steel resists rust and corrosion, even after repeated exposure to slush and salt. The side chains are powder coated for added rim protection, and the sturdy cross links hold up well to regular snow driving. Dry them after use and store them in the included nylon bag to keep them ready for the next storm.

Compact Storage and Reliable Protection: Easy to Keep on Hand

Each pair of chains comes in a durable nylon bag that’s easy to stash in your trunk. They’re compact enough to keep in your vehicle all season, so you’re always prepared for sudden changes in weather or chain law zones. With reliable traction, quick installation, and a 5-year warranty, these Konig chains make winter driving a lot less stressful.

Note

To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

I used these chains for the first time to get me home after work when winter storm Jonas hit the east coast. The snow was so deep that I only had trouble when the snow started to pick my car off the ground. I made it all the way home with these chains but did notice a few links broke during the 30 minute drive home. I wasn't going any faster than 20-25 mph on the way home. I couldn't go any faster given how bad the roads were. These chains were easy to install and I did drive a few miles before stopping and retightening them as per the instructions. The chains can be used again even with the broken link but I will have to repair them in the spring or buy new ones next year.

by:

eTrailer di an excellent job in helping me select the appropriate chains for my specific driving needs. The communications was outstanding, the package arrived when promised, and the follow-on check to make sure I was able to install and test was exceptional. I strongly recommend.

by:

This was the fastest next day shipping! I ordered late and the next thing I knew the shipper picked it up, and was at my door mid morning! Thank you! In time for a storm!

by:

Chains fit 2022 F350 Tremor with 285/70R18 tires. A little difficult to drape around tire evenly due to the deep lugs/siping on Dura Trac tires but not bad. Plenty of clearance to brake and suspension components. Get some parachute cord to place over the tensioning chain on the rear tire to protect the hub. Have not used in snow yet. A bit pricey but high quality and fairly easy installation both front and back. I also have Konig chains for my Subaru Outback that are excellent. Etrailer customer service is always excellent.

by:

These chains fit my 2019 Hyundai Kona EV (2WD) well and were just the thing add traction in deep snow after the recent blizzard. They are easy to put on (though the weather and sand/salt on the roads wet, cold and dirty to deal with) and they work very well to boost traction. They are a great value and I would highly recommend!

by:

I have to say I'm extremely satisfied with these tire chains!! They're so aggressive and work well with my corolla. My at is front wheel drive and the weight of the motors sits perfectly in line with the tire/chain combination. They bite and dig right in the snow and ice. My drive way is very long as you can see and quite dangerous in snowy conditions. I've had numerous times where I've had to slip the chains on and it was a breeze. They're so easy to put on and off. I feel extremely confident throughout the winter season with the Thule tire chains in the back of my trunk. Thank you so much! You guys have great products going!

by:

Pleased to say I can finally review these tire chains. I bought them as a precautionary measure before going up to Vermont for a week earlier in January. Used them extremely briefly up there and thought they were solid.

Fast forward a couple weeks to now, and we received 20+ inches of snow in about 24 hours in central Massachusetts. Got to and from my friends' house for the Pats AFC Championship game while the snow was dumping no problem. No need to dig my car out, no need to concern myself with which roads had been plowed or not, and no need to avoid hills in either direction. I never thought my FWD wagon with 6" clearance and all-seasons would eat snow like this. The chains are peace of mind to the highest degree. At this point I think they should plow the roads less!

Mounting is pretty easy too, but they require some finagling to get them in place when you're doing it out in the snow. Getting them off is more annoying because you have to blindly find the connector on the backside of the tire, but it's not bad with some patience.

by:

Shipping was very fast, the tire chains had a hard plastic case, which is great. Visually they look great, brand new, no hardware is damaged, it all fits together properly by hand. I haven't checked the fit yet, I will update my review if they don't fit.

I have'nt had a chance to use them just yet, but the quality looks very good.

by:

Extremely satisfied with our product. Were going to Lake Tahoe this coming Monday and the chains arrived just in time.

by:

I appreciate that my order arrived two days early. Thank you!

by:

Very easy to install, and work great!

by:

FAst shipping - Ahead of schedule

by:

This is my third purchase from Etrailer. As always they delivered, again ahead of schedule. I can't give a complete review of the product because we are experiencing some unusually mild weather but I can say that the product arrived ahead of schedule, looks bomber, and came in a convenient carrying case. Previous purchases include a trailer hidden hitch and timbren suspension support for my 2007 Toyota Sienna. Both were supported by video/written instructions, available on etrailers website, and installed without a "hitch". Etrailer will continue to be one of the first websites I check for all my automotive needs!

by:

Easy to install and great traction! I just used these chains in Tahoe and they worked great! I was a little worried about installing them in the snow, but the design made it really easy because it's almost split into two sections that wrap around the tire instead of having to drive on top of them first. I would highly recommend doing a practice run before you actually need them, as the chains are a little intimidating at first, but after installing the first one, the second one was on in no time. Great product!

by:

These chains fit perfect on my Tesla Model 3. They were not required at the time in R2 conditions but the OEM tires' tread was pretty worn and our street has a decent slope. This year, 2023 will be our 2nd season with these chains so you know they hold up well. I would definitely recommend these over any other cheap cable or ladder style chains.

These chains are a must if you live in the mountains or up steep streets. Theyre very durable but make sure you let them dry before storing them or the links will rust out and break the next time you use them. Definitely recommend and will continue to buy these as needed.

by:

Everything as promised and on time thanks will do more business with etrailer

by:

Do NOT buy these chains if you own a Tesla, and I cannot recommend etrailer.com at this point either. I purchased these tire chains Item #TH01221102 for my Model 3 from etrailer.com on based on their recommendation and videos. When I received the chains I test fit them and they seemed to fit and looked fine on the tires. I did not have to actually use them for several months. After a single use, one of the center join links opened before finishing a 15 mile trip at 25 mph. I replaced it with a repair link. I made a 2nd short trip at 25 mph and another center joining link came open after less than 30 minutes of 25 mph driving. I replaced that link with another repair link and it's happened a 3rd time. I contacted etrailer.com because clearly something is not right. etrailer.com referred me to Pewag and Konig to file a warranty claim. All good, I filed a claim and Konig's response was they would honor the warranty claim ONE TIME ONLY (5 year warranty is now VOIDED) because these are not the right chains for my vehicle, and Konig sent me a brand new set of chains, which is nice, but does me no good since they NOT the right chains. I came back to etrailer.com to try to address this further, and at first they blamed me and said I bought the wrong size (I didn't) and provided a link to the correct ones. That link included a listing for the same chains and size I bought. I emailed back and pointed out to them that this was not my fault, and they acknowledged it. I asked them to please do the right thing and allow me to exchange the brand new "wrong" chains which they recommended and sold me, for the correct ones which Konig recommends. I stated I would be willing to pay for a cost difference. Unfortunately, they have not responded to me or any subsequent emails. Not a good experience.

I am attaching an image of where these chain links fail. Red highlights are the failing links. Green are repaired links. I'm pretty sure this is why Konig says don't use these chains on a Tesla.

  • What Konig Snow Tire Chains For Size 235/45R18 Tires on Toyota
Hi Dennis, Glad you checked because we do have the right Konig snow tire chains for size 235/45R18 tires on your Toyota, but they are a different part number than the one you specified. The correct fit for 235/45R18 tires are the following: - Konig Tire Chains # TH01221102 These are the same as the ones you asked about, with assisted tensioning, square links, and a diamond pattern, but the correct size for your tires.

With the assisted tensioning you would have to kind of play around with the tensioning to get it perfect for your tires, whereas the self tensioning you can just pull on the chain and it will tighten and lock into place and the excess can just easily be clipped up. There isn't actually any tire cable options due to the odd tire size but we do have socks like the ISSE Classic Snow Socks part # TCH66 or traditional chains like the Konig Tire Chains part # TH01221102. Tire chains are typically rated for 30 to 40 miles per hour depending on the chain. The Thule CB12 chains, # TH01221102, are rated for 31 miles per hour. If you are in conditions where chains are required, going 40 miles per hour is not a good idea. The faster you go the less control and traction you will have.
