What is the Speed Rating for Thule CB12 Tire Chains

Question:
1 The maximum speed limit is not mentioned in the information section. 2 In the event that the maximum speed limit is 30m/h, what would happen if I drove it at 40m/h. Would the chains break off? Would the chains become flat or crushed? Hope to hear from you!!

Tire chains are typically rated for 30 to 40 miles per hour depending on the chain. The Thule CB12 chains, # TH01221102, are rated for 31 miles per hour. If you are in conditions where chains are required, going 40 miles per hour is not a good idea. The faster you go the less control and traction you will have. Any chain can potentially become disconnected and higher speeds increase the chance of that occurring. The metal parts of the chains are not likely to wear out faster due to higher speeds but chains that have plastics or other composite materials could.
I have included a link to a video review of these chains and a link to our tire chain FAQ article. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for specific information on the use of chains. There may even be a speed rating in the owners manual when using chains. If it or the chains are rated for lower speeds always go by the lower rating.
