Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Ride-Ride air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your vehicle. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. Drilling may be required for some applications.

  • Recommended Air Bags for a 2024 Toyota Tundra w/ an In Bed Hitch
Those will not but I have a set that does! For a set of air bags that fit your 2024 Toyota Tundra and are compatible with a 5th wheel hitch you will want the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs item # F89VV. These have a 5,000 lbs load leveling capacity that will keep your rear end from sagging when you're towing your 5th wheel trailer. I recommend adding the Air Command Compressor System item # F2610. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags individually...

Hey Doug, thanks for the information and congrats on your protentional new trailer. The only way to mount a 5th wheel hitch in your 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is to install the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch w/ Custom Installation Kit item # BW96FR. It fits all three bed lengths and the hybrid models of the 2024 Tundra's. This system includes custom fit brackets that bolt into existing holes in your Tundra's frame. • Air Bags for 2024 Toyota Tundra With 3 Inch Lift
Hi Larry; you can use both Air Lift and Firestone air bags as long as you don't have the factory Air Suspension system. I recommend the Firestone # F89VV since they have a more durable construction which makes them far more reliable. With that 3" factory lift you will also need the Lift Spacers # F2366 for installation. I also recommend adding an air compressor like the Firestone Air Command Standard Duty Air Compressor # F2610. This will allow you to adjust your air bags no matter where...

Hello Keith. We have run this question by Firestone in the past and they say the # F89VV kit will fit your 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with the Fox rear suspension and shocks. Hello Dan, Congrats on the new 2025 Toyota Tundra! The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F89VV will be a great fit, and they will not get in the way of tire chains. They do install right behind the wheel but there will still be plenty of clearance for the chains. If you were looking to pair the bags with an air compressor, take a look at the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs # AL25980EZ. This compressor is bluetooth compatible...

  • Best Suspension Enhancement Option For 2024 Toyota Tundra With WD Hitch
Hello April, thanks for reaching out. The best thing you can do for that is to add an air bag system to your 20204 Tundra TRD. This will allow you to eliminate virtually all sagging. You can adjust the PSI to get back to the factory ride height. Here is what I recommend: - Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F89VV These are 5,000 lb capacity air bags and they can go from a minimum of 5 PSI up to 100 PSI. The bracket are no-drill. Keep in mind when...

  • 2024 Toyota Tundra Air Bag Kit Recommendation for Towing a 5,500 lb Trailer
Hey Tracy, thanks for reaching out! I recommend going with the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F89VV as long as your 2024 Toyota Tundra isn't equipped with a factory air suspension, because the Firestone air bags have the best construction which translates to more peace of mind while towing. One thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to start off with a weight distribution system if you aren't already using one. I checked the online owner's manual for your 2024 Tundra and...

  • Can I Install Air Bags On A 2023 Toyota Tundra With A 1" Spacer On Top Of The Coil
You can certainly still install an air bag kit on your 2023 Toyota Tundra with a 1" coil spacer. If the lift adds distance between the axle and the frame, you can use the spacer kit # F2536 with the # F89VV Air bag Kit to compensate for the lift. If the your lift kit does not effect the distance between the frame and the axle, you can install the Air bag kit # F89VV as-is, and you will not need any spacer.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Air Bags for a 2024 Toyota Tundra
Hey Paul congrats on your new truck! We can definitely get your 2024 Tundra set up with all of those parts you requested. Let's start with a 5th wheel hitch. There's not many options for your Tundra but the one that is available is by far the best and the one I recommend anyways. It is the B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Turnoverball for Toyota Tundra item # BW45XR. B&W builds the most reliable 5th wheel hitches in the towing business. You will need the 2" Lift Spacers # F2366 to install the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bag Helper Springs # F89VV on your 2023 Toyota Tundra with the 3" TRD lift kit. This lift provides 3" of front lift and 2" of rear lift so the 2" spacers ensure you do not stretch and damage the springs. I recommend pairing the air bags with the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL74000. This is my favorite system as it has a smart manifold which will monitor the air pressure in each spring while you...

  • Air Bags for 2023 Toyota Tundra
Hi Phil; the air bags will not have an impact on ride quality when you run them at the minimum 5 psi. This complete adjustability is the best things about air bags when compared to other suspension enhancement options. Between the two brands, Firestone is definitely the best choice. For your 2023 Tundra you need the # F89VV. The quality and durability of the Firestone air bags is far superior when compared to Air Lift making them more reliable. With the 1" lift an additional spacer will...

  • 2024 Toyota Tundra Timbren Suspension Alternative for Softer Ride Quality
Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out and giving your experience! The Timbren brand is really popular because they've built a name for themselves and while they do work, a common theme we've discovered with them is that they are too stiff, especially when the tow vehicle is unloaded. We often joke that Timbrens will either fix your back problems or give you back problems. For a better system I recommend using air bags instead. These give you complete control over how much support the suspension...
