Question:

Jerred, or anyone who can answer Toyota questions, please: I have a 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited, 4 wheel drive, crew cab; 6-1/2 ft bed; Tow capacity is 11,450 #; carry capacity is 1600 to 1860 #. I want to install a sliding 5th wheel hitch. I understand that it has a composite bed, requiring a special drill bit, and still the bed is subject to splitting / cracking. I am also wondering if air bags can be installed, and folding / extendable mirrors. I love my new truck, and any information you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Paul congrats on your new truck! We can definitely get your 2024 Tundra set up with all of those parts you requested.

Let's start with a 5th wheel hitch. There's not many options for your Tundra but the one that is available is by far the best and the one I recommend anyways. It is the B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Turnoverball for Toyota Tundra item # BW45XR. B&W builds the most reliable 5th wheel hitches in the towing business. The Turnoverball system is their version of a gooseneck hitch. It installs with custom fit brackets that bolt right to your Tundra's frame with included hardware. The only drilling you will need to do is to open up a hole for the square receiver and the safety chain links. This square receiver is how you will mount the 5th wheel hitch. So an added perk is no rails taking up space in your bed when you're not towing.

B&W includes an epoxy kit with this hitch. It's to be applied to prevent the splitting and cracking you're concerned with. I have attached a screen shot from the instructions below.

Included with the B&W item # BW45XR is the Companion Sliding 5th Wheel hitch. The Companion Slider has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will give you 12" of travel for making tight turns and backing. It has 1" thick dual jaws that will give you a 360-degree jaw to kingpin contact. This system minimizes the chucking, jarring and noise that can occur when towing a 5th wheel trailer. This not only provides a more secure connection but also a quieter more comfortable towing experience.

There is one set of air bags that is compatible with your 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited and a 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch. They are the Firestone item # F89VV. These air bags have a 5,000 lbs capacity that will level out the rear end of your Tundra when you are towing your 5th wheel trailer. All mounting brackets and hardware are included for installation.

I also recommend adding the Firestone Air Command item # F2610 to your truck. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags from your phone.

For towing mirrors, I recommend the K-Source Snap & Zap Custom Towing Mirrors item # KS48NQ. These are going to be compatible with your Tundra so long as you do not have the extendable or telescoping mirrors. They provide you with a wider field of vision and do not block your camera.
