I did have one issue where one of the landing pad covers flew off that I had to replace. I understand parts wear and plastic gets brittle and/or shrinks with time in the sun, but that shouldn't have happened so soon. Other than that, we bought a Thule Motion XT box to use for long travels.
Appreciate that this company had a # 15 Yakima landing pad set available for a very reasonable price. Order came through quickly and I'm back in business with a 2018 Subaru Outback using my older Yakima "towers" , bars and kayak saddles.
Thanks guys!
These installed easily and look nice. I didn't get the feeling that the mounting was quite rock-solid, although in fairness there's only so much that can be done given that they're at the mercy of the built-in Subaru mount points.
With that said, I've carried things like plywood multiple times without incident (where the concern is the sheet acting like a sail and lifting up rather than pushing down), so they've done their job so far.
The rack system is nice, however, there are four plastic covers when the racks are not in use and one of them (front driver's side) will just not stay in place. Unfortunately, that means that the rain and weather will probably damage the uncovered parts.
The Landing Pad 15 was exactly what I needed for 2019 Subaru Outback Yakima Sky Line Towers. I am 5'3" older lady and was able to install the entire system with Jet Stream crossbars without assistance, thanks to videos. (Yakimas instructions are photo only). But I really want to commend your company on the website, shipping, video tutorials, personalized communication, and follow up. Great job etrailer!
The Yakima Landing Pads are an essential component of the rack system in use on my vehicle. They are paired perfectly with the rest of the system and were easily installed and removed at the end of seasonal use-- though they could easily remain a permanent installation. The items are excellently constructed and have weathered their heavy use with no evidence of wear.
Great product. Good price. Delivered in timely manner.

I was seriously disappointed ?? the landing pads are not made for the Tacoma and sit on the roof with a gap that looks bad and will let water and trash into the bolt parts of the rack to roof juncture. For the amount of money it should be made correctly. I was also shocked to find that the landing pads upper parts were plastic… I have used Yakima for over 30 years and never expected a “cheap out “ like that! I was so disappointed I have never used the racks! They also only have provisions for one of the two bolts at each landing pad roof juncture. Disappointed ??!

These will mount to the rhino rack tracks so I could use my Yakima control towers and rack.

Easy Install.
But, the instructions tell you torque bolts to 48 in lbf or 5.4 Nm, with the L shape security wrench.
How do you apply a specific torque to a L shaped wrench?
Can't put a torque wrench on it.
My question and reason for 4 stars is for Yakima. Why not supply a preset torque driver like the one supplied for the Skyline Tower installation?
Overall I'm quite pleased.

I recently purchased a rack system for my 1979 Ford Bronco to haul our new Kayaks. And believe me it was not easy to "fit" a vehicle as old as this.
I had some interesting challenges - my truck has a 3" lift and only clears my garage entrance by about 1.5 inches, so whatever I got had to be easily removable (at least in the front). I also wanted it to be multi functional so that I could carry other stuff as well, and the Yakima/Thule systems are great for that. Lastly, I wanted whatever I put on the truck to look good as I have put a lot of time and $ into fixing up this old truck and I didn't want it to look cheezey.....
Thanks to the good folks at etrailer I ended up with somewhat of a hybrid approach (my choice) but it worked out exactly as I envisioned it. I purchased the Thule Xsporter Pro system for the rear which works well with only minor modifications to the truck. I can lower it easily so I can get the truck into the garage without removing the system altogether. I really like that the tailgate is still functional with the system installed as some others I had in mind were bumper or hitch attached and would not allow use of the tailgate.... And, lastly it looks nice enough to just leave it on all the time.
On the front I chose the Yakima JetStream cross bar held up by a pair of Yakima SkyLine Towers and Landing Pads which I chose because I can easily remove the crossbar/towers to get the truck into my garage. The Landing Pads have covers for when not in use and are small enough to not be too noticeable.
I also added the security locks for peace of mind.
I have added 3 pictures, the first shows the Landing Pads without the towers & crossbar. You can also see the Xsporter Pro on the rear in its lowered position. The 2nd shot is a closeup of the Skyline Tower. The 3rd picture shows the entire system installed ready for my kayaks (or whatever).
Thanks again to the folks at etrailer for their expert advice and customer service.

Landing pads are fine. We've been using with round bars to transport kayaks. No issues.

Easy to install and sturdy. I carry a 9' pontoon boat on my camper shell using this rack at freeway speeds with no problems.

The Yakima roof rack system is an Outstanding product. I purchased the product to replace the OEM roof rack because it was too flimsy to carry the tandem bike mount and my bike. The Yakima roof rack is solid and provides me the peace of mind while hauling my bike on the roof of my car. etrailer provided the product for the best price as always.

My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.

Installation was relatively easy, instructions were clear and easy to follow. These are medium duty mounts, secured by a single bolt per pad, and suitable for kayaks and other moderate loads on-road, which is exacly what I'm using them for. The manual specifically calls out against using these for off-road applications.
I'd suggest that anm installer cleans all surfaces to be sealed (bolt holes and the area around them)thoroughly with isopropanol to guarantee a long-term leakproof bond for the silicone sealant. Vibration, tensile and shear stresses, thermal cycling and other environmental factors really stress sealants in these sorts of applications.
All in all, I'm satisfied with the mount design's suitability for its intended application. I just wish Yakima would manufacture their stuff anywhere other than mainland China.

Was not a good fit for my TACO. Big gap between the side of roof channel. which allows water to group under there and could cause water on headliner if not 100% sealed with silicone.

Great product as always with Yakima. Just be aware the towers are not included and they currently don't carry a tower for round bars.

Fit good with the OE track on roof. I like the new covers they supplied with the mounts.

Installed very easy on a 2017 Chevy Tahoe and the hardest part was pulling the existing plugs. These seat very nicely into the flush mounts and have a good secure and weather tight fit.

I bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To use my Yakima Skyline Towers, I had to install these landing pads in the rack rail attached to the roof. The installation was easy, and the pads serve their purpose. But they don't seem to be engineered as secure as I would like. They have more flexibility than I think they should. The bolt head is over an inch from where it screws into the roof. I think Yakima could have engineered something more secure. In fairness to Yakima, the Jeep rack rail is different than any other rack system I've seen and is incompatible with any other system. But I am assuming that these landing pads will work OK with a full load and that the Yakima engineers have done an adequate job. This summer they will be put to the test for 3,000 miles. Note: the Yakima windshield fairing falls on the glass in the moon roof rendering the moon roof unopenable so long as the fairing is used.

Wanted to salvage my round bars and all other Yakima products I had previously on my Tacoma. These worked great. Easy to install. The directions are very clear. I only recommend taking your time with the install to make sure you've got it all aligned and waterproofed correctly.
