Hey, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima Jet Stream Roof Rack System here on our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's gonna be a great way to get that extra gear up on top of your roof. Whether you're hauling stuff for a vacation, maybe loading up a kayak, or just getting a roof box up there for some closed storage. It's gonna offer a lot of versatility, and it's gonna be a really great option for our flush rail system here.
Let's check it out. So one of my favorite things about this system in particular, is the quick release function. So if we come up to our cover here, kind of pinch the sides, it just releases the roof rack like that. So if we do that on both sides, we're able to quickly and easily remove the roof rack without having to undo any bolts or mess up any tools. So we want to take our vehicle through a carwash, we can.
We don't have to worry about having this up here, or if you just don't want to have the roof rack on there you don't have to. It makes the whole process really quick and easy, and it's something that kind of sets it apart from the competition. Taking a closer look at those covers, though, we can see there is a spot where it can add lock cores though. So no random person can just come up and take your roof rack off if you choose to add those yourself. So I like that it, you have the option for it.
It's not included by default, but the options there if you want it. So looking at the rest of our system here, we've got 60 inch bars here up top, which is gonna give us a pretty good amount of overhang for any sort of load assist kayak carriers, or just to have room for extra accessories. Get a clamp on the outside, maybe. It's gonna be really nice for that. They're gonna be a black powder coated aluminum.
So you're not gonna have to worry about any sort of rust or corroding over time. And up top here, if we remove our end cap, we've got a track here for any sort of accessories that we can slide in here, and a nice weather stripping that you don't have to cut to length. It just pushes down when you insert your accessory, and slide it along that channel there, and you don't have to worry about making any cuts or modifications. Now, those bars are also gonna give you a 165 pound weight capacity. So just keep that in mind when you're loading it up. Always be sure to check any sort of baskets, boxes or other accessories that you're loading onto your roof rack as well, and just go with the lowest rated component. While we're up here, let's get some measurements. For our crossbar spread center to center, we're working with 33 and a quarter inches. For our height from the roof to the bottom of the rack for our clearance here, we've got four and one quarter inches. And then from the roof to the top of the rack, we've got about five inches there. So that's not too much height added to the top. And that's plenty of room underneath for your clamp around accessories. And then because we have our flush rails here, it's gonna give us fixed mounting points for our landing pads there, which is going to simplify the install process a lot. Let's check out how we did it. So the first thing we're gonna do is come up to our flush rails here, take our included tool and remove this screw from in the channel here. It's a little hard to see down in there, but we'll just get that out, and that'll give us the attachment point for our landing pads. Once that's been removed, we can take our landing pad here and begin assembling it. We've got two main pieces here. This bottom one is going to have some arrows on it. We want those to face in towards the middle of the vehicle. So we're just gonna set that down over top of that hole. We're gonna take this top piece here, and just kind of pop it into place there. And then we have our bolt with a washer and lock washer on it. We're just gonna drop that down to the middle here. Find that threaded hole and secure it down right where we removed that bolt just a second ago. Then on the table here, we can come to our towers here, and we're going to attach this metal block here that will slide into the track of our crossbars underneath. So we'll just take that block, kinda pop it on the bolt right there. Flip it upside down, and use our included tool here to tighten that down into place. Once that's most of the way in there, we're going to slide it into our crossbar here, and there are measurement markings on the bottom here. They're a little hard to see, but I'm going to line the tower up here with that 34 mark. Just to start out. Once we get it on the roof, we can make adjustments if need be. And then I'm going to continue to tighten up this bottom bolt here, until I hear some clicks from our tool letting us know that it's torqued down properly. Now we can set our bar up on the roof. We're gonna make sure that this rounded portion is towards the front of our vehicle. And you wanna make sure that these towers, this cap here is open because that is what's going to unlock it and allow it to slot right into the landing pads we installed earlier. So this will carefully reach across the vehicle here, get that side in, and then make some adjustments over here. If I need to just pulling the tower towards me a bit. And then once we've got these, both adjusted so that they dropped down in like that on either side, we can come back with that same tool to this bolt head right here and just tighten that up until we hear that same clicking that we did before letting us know that we're tightened down properly. There we go. And then we can just push that into place like that, to lock it in. And don't forget to come back with your end cap, pop on the crossbar and repeat that over on the other side, overall, the install process was really easy. The fixed mounting points to take a lot of the guesswork out of it. So I liked that part a lot. All you got to do is just repeat that for the front end back crossbars, and you're good to go, same process for each. And I think it's gonna be a really great roof rack system on your 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee..

For a 2015 Mazda 3, 4 door sedan.
I used the 50" jetstream bars with the skyline towers and the #22 Landing Pads.
Went together easy, great quality, very solid feeling! And, easy to remove and install when needed.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze.
Still look and work great after a year. Fantastic investment and they didn't reduce my fuel economy. They don't produce a lot of wind noise either.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
Great bars and easy installation on my 2012 Prius C
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
The yakima jetstream crossbar looks beautiful. Quality is great. Took my vehicle for a test drive, and i didnt hear anything loose or broken from the bars. Very satisfied with the product and the instructions were great. It was my first time installing a roof rack too.
not installed yet but everything was delivered on time and in good condition
The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. I love that there's a rubber piece in the top rail that doesn't need to be cut, which makes it a very flush and smooth fit. I also love the modularity and the weight that it can handle, especially for the stuff i plan on carrying.
The landing Pad 18 was very easy to install on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and fit up nicely with my Yakima SkyLine towers.
Great company. Fast delivery.
Great product. Great service.
very informative and great work
Order was easy to place and delivered in less than a week as promised. The sales advice was perfect fit despite multiple pieces having been ordered. Used the rack once and very sturdy
Well you asked for it so;
I ordered this as part of my roof rack for a 2021 Nissan rogue. The complete roof rack set was unavailable le as one bracket was on back order and said would ship in under a month so I ordered everything else in the meantime. Little did I know it would take a over a year to get one stupid bracket and yes, I'm still waiting. I can't even return the items I bought because it's way past the 90 day policy even though they're brand new still in the box collecting dust. etrailer, this has been the worst experience I've had yet with you guys. Oh still waiting for my one bracket to complete my roof rack
The rack system seems very good, but time will tell, of course. The installation is difficult and time consuming. I purchased the system needed from etrailer website with guaranteed to fit pieces. I would call myself a very experienced do-it-yourselfer. I followed directions slowly, carefully, and exactly, yet there were problems. The video for installation given for my exact order did not match the printed and actual assembly and installation directions. The baseclips that were guaranteed for my model vehicle were actually for a different model vehicle according to the enclosed sheet ... however they did work anyway but caused some "looking up" and some confusion during assembly. I was careful to assemble exactly to measurements given ... and once that is all done and tightened and "sealed up" you put them on the roof, only to find that they could have been spaced a bit wider for a perfect fit. They are fine enough and we'll see if they stay tight to the vehicle. If not will need to take it all apart and widen the spacing.
It is excellent that basically only one tool that is provided with the racks is needed. And also that each part must "click" when properly tightened. That adds reassurance and satisfaction while assembling.
There are so many models of vehicles and it is not easy to figure all this out. etrailer has a very helpful website, response, and videos to help ... but my review is to emphasize that the instructions are not perfect. One needs lots of patience, common sense, and perhaps re-assembly for a perfect outcome.
These really look so much better then the factory racks! Easy to install. Easy to order! Great product!
I bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To use my Yakima Skyline Towers, I had to install these landing pads in the rack rail attached to the roof. The installation was easy, and the pads serve their purpose. But they don't seem to be engineered as secure as I would like. They have more flexibility than I think they should. The bolt head is over an inch from where it screws into the roof. I think Yakima could have engineered something more secure. In fairness to Yakima, the Jeep rack rail is different than any other rack system I've seen and is incompatible with any other system. But I am assuming that these landing pads will work OK with a full load and that the Yakima engineers have done an adequate job. This summer they will be put to the test for 3,000 miles. Note: the Yakima windshield fairing falls on the glass in the moon roof rendering the moon roof unopenable so long as the fairing is used.
These bars are outstanding. They were purchased for a Jeep grand cherokee '18. I had previously purchased from another brand, but the whistle noise was constant and very noticeable. These are completely quiet, I am glad I changed to the yakima bars. Installation was also much easier, and more "flush" mounting with the yakima brand. Glad to do business with etrailer!
The Yakima roof rack came in and was super easy to install. Appreciate the etrailer videos offering ways to install the racks.
