If you are an energy-conscious RV owner, the Go Power Solar Flex charging system provides clean, renewable power and independence from the grid. This kit comes with everything you need to charge your RV batteries with sunlight. Using 2 flexible solar panels, this system collects solar energy to create DC power that passes through a solar controller to charge your RV batteries.


How It Works


Collecting Solar Power

The charging process starts with the flexible solar panels, which install on the roof of your RV. When solar energy interacts with the silicon cells in each panel, it generates a flow of DC electrical current that charges your RV's batteries. Each of the monocrystalline cells is made from a single crystal of silicon, so the electrons that create the current have more space to move, making these panels more efficient than one with polycrystalline cells. And in optimal sunlight conditions, the panels produce 200 watts per hour.

The silicon cells are set between a laminated backsheet to withstand the elements. The panels are low profile and bend up to 30 degrees to suit the shape of your RV's roof, making them more aerodynamic than traditional solar panels.


Charging and Protecting RV Battery Bank

The solar controller prevents harmful overcharging by adjusting the power generated by the solar panel before it reaches your batteries. It uses pulse width modulation technology to regulate the output through pulses that provide a consistent charge. Typically, this type of technology is a good fit for smaller systems with lower voltages.


Using a multistage charging system, the controller automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The controller is compatible with multiple battery types and includes preset charging profiles for sealed/gel, AGM, flooded/wet cell, and lithium batteries.


Charging Modes

  1. Bulk: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. As the name suggests, this is where the bulk of the charging happens. It typically charges the battery to at least 80% capacity.
  2. Absorption: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery reaches between 80% to 90% capacity, the absorption state will kick in and start charging at a regulated voltage. In each charging profile, this mode is set to last for 30 minutes after the bulk charge is completed.
  3. Float: Once the battery reaches full charge, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: On flooded/wet cell batteries, this mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended float cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

With Maximum Power Boost Technology, you can simply press a button to activate Bulk mode for the highest charging voltage. This lets you quickly top off your battery bank before the end of the day by capturing as much power as possible.

This solar controller is built to charge two battery banks and has terminals for a primary and secondary battery. Your primary battery will receive the full current until it is completely charged. Then, your secondary battery will start to draw the charge current.

The backlit, digital display acts as an information center for your solar panel output. It shows the charging current, battery voltage, and battery state of charge. It also allows you to input your battery type and choose a charging profile. Additionally, a built-in USB port on the front of the controller provides a convenient outlet to charge your cell phone or tablet.


Lastly, the controller includes several built-in safety features to help protect your equipment. The charging process will shut down if the controller starts to overheat and when an overcurrent is detected. Also, if the battery or solar panel is wired incorrectly, it activates a reverse polarity alarm.


How It Installs

The system includes (2) 100-watt solar panels, a 30-amp PWM solar controller, MC4 cables, and all the necessary installation hardware.


  1. Solar Panel: The solar panels install anywhere on your RV roof with included mounting hardware. To maximize sunlight collection, it is important to install the panel where it avoids shadows cast by objects, like an air conditioner or vent. The panel uses MC4 cables to connect to the solar controller. These cables can enter the RV through the refrigerator vent or using a Go Power cable entry plate (sold separately). The cable entry plate provides a covered housing and uses a quick connect setup for the MC4 cables.
  2. Solar Controller: The solar controller flush-mounts to a wall inside your RV. The manual includes a mounting template with measurements to ensure proper installation. It is wired to the solar panel using MC4 cables. Then, the battery bank is wired to the primary terminals on the controller. If you are using additional batteries, they can be connected to the secondary terminals. The included 30-amp fuse is installed between the solar controller and battery for additional current protection.

Note: This kit may require more wiring and additional parts depending on your RV setup.

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Go Power! Solar Flex kit. Now, this Solar Flex kit is perfect for RVs and boats. It's flexible design can conform to almost any surface, which gives you a lot of options when it comes to mounting the panels.Now, this kit simply converts the suns energy into DC electricity and that electricity charges your batteries, and ensures that you always have power when you need it. The unit features 200 watts and 11.36 amps total of charge power. So, 100 amps or .. Excuse me, 100 watts per panel.The kit comes with what you need to keep your batteries charged and it's able to charge up to two batteries.

The panels can be installed by adhesive, or screws. Stainless steal grommets are built into the panels for ease of installation.The solar panels are durable, allowing a bend of up to 30 degrees. It's a really nice design, and again, easy to get installed. Very thin construction, about three millimeters thick. This kit comes with the solar panels.

It also comes with your 30 amp digital PWM solar controller. It comes with your MC4 red output cable, and MC4 black output cable. As well as all the necessary mounting hardware, connectors for wiring, hardware for installation, and so on. It also has fuse protectant, so it comes with a fuse holder and the appropriate fuse.Now, the solar controller is this unit here. This is a really nice design, it's kind of the brains of the system.

It's easy to use. It's got the on board navigation with the back lit digital display. This allows you to choose battery type and charging profile. It works for sealed, AGM, and flooded battery types. The battery charging profiles include float charge, bulk, or absorption charge, and equalization charge.This features an automatic equalized feature that will charge and recondition your batteries once a month, at a higher voltage, to ensure that any excess sulfonation is removed.

It also features maximum power boost technology, which allows you to override the normal charging algorithm of the solar controller. That mode is designed to be used before the end of the day. If you know you will require many loads through the night, it can also be used when you have just installed the solar controller to put batteries on a boost charge right away.Now, the controller also displays voltage, PB charging current, and batter state of charge. Errors will also be displayed, so you can quickly identify and resolve any issues that come up. It offers a standard USB connector, which is located right here. You just pop out this plug, and then you have access to the USB port. That's an onboard USB port, which delivers 5 volts to small mobile appliances such as cellphones, tablets, and small music players. Also, it has a connection point for connecting an inverter, which is located right here on the bottom side of the unit.The controller also features battery reversed polarity protection, solar-array reverse polarity protection, over temperature protection, and over current protection. When it comes to the construction of the solar panels, again, they're a nice low profile design. Stainless steel grommets, so you can easily mount them with screws. Or you could also apply adhesive on the back and mount it that way as well.When it comes to the construction, we're looking at a laminate TPT back sheet. Again, with the stainless steel grommets, it's a very strong, durable design. The panels, each one measures 44 and 5/8s inches long by 21 and 7/16 inches wide, but about 1/8 inches thick. Each panel ways under three pounds, so 2.9 pounds. Maximum power voltage is 17.6 volts, open circuit voltage is 20.8 amps, hort circuit current 6.14 amps. And the maximum system voltage is 600 volts DC.Easy connecting with the unit. Basically, you have your two wires and you have the connection points located right here on the back. Battery one primary, primary for battery one. Solar panel positive, solar panel negative. Battery two and battery two. So, a secondary plus a negative or a positive and negative. Everything is labeled for easy connecting.Again, you're going to get the appropriate connectors to combine the panels, the fuse, fuse holder, and wiring connectors. And all the necessary installation hardware. Quick connect system, so you can easily get things connected quickly and easy installation. It doesn't take long at all once you have it all mapped out and laid out the way that you want to install it.Now, I do need to make a special note. Sealant and adhesive will depend on the roof membrane materials. So, that varies from application to application.     You can use the solar panel charge kit # 34272628 with the battery bank of your camper and still charge the batteries with a separate charge source (vehicle alternator, power outlet) but you'll also want the CTEK D250S part # CTEK40186 which balances the charge between the two sources and prevents any backfeeding or other issues like you mentioned. So basically you'd run your two charge circuits to the CTEK and then it would charge the batteries. See attached picture.
