Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this OptiMate Solar Duo Solar Charging System. This solar charging system is gonna provide this 10 watt polycrystalline solar panel that uses the sunlight to provide an off-grid charging solution for your lead acid and lithium batteries. This is designed to permanently attach to your roof of your RV or trailer or wherever it is that you're gonna be using this to charge your battery. The mounting hardware is not included, but you should be able to just use some screws at the corners here to get it mounted in place. This will allow you to park in the sun, and the solar panel will then use that solar energy to create electricity to charge up your battery.

This is made of weatherproof materials to help stand up to the elements as it is gonna be outdoors most of the time. It does have an IP rating of 54, so will hold up really well to water and dust. It's gonna last for you even if you have it outside the majority of the time. This is gonna work for your 12 volt batteries from two to 240 amp hours, whether they're flooded, AGM, gel, or lithium ion phosphate batteries, this will do a good job of helping to trickle charge those, so that you won't be decimated or completely eliminating all of your power as you're off the grid. As far as our dimensions go, this is right about 15 1/4 of an inch tall if we include our brackets here.

Approximately 10 inches wide and only about one inch deep. So it is pretty small. A general rule with your solar panels is the larger the panel, the more power you're gonna get. So this is just gonna be a 10 watt option for you. So a very, very, small option.

So it's not gonna take up a whole lot of room, but you're also not gonna get a huge amount of power with this. Being a polycrystalline construction, it is going to do a decent job for you. The difference between polycrystalline and monocrystalline, in my mind an analogy would be like your particle board with wood, or a solid piece of wood. So the monocrystalline is gonna be a little bit more efficient for you. Whereas the polycrystalline, that's kind of got pieced together, so it's a little less efficient, but that does make it a little bit more affordable typically.

So if you're wanting the top of the line, you probably want to look for monocrystalline. If it's not that big of a deal to you, if you just want something that's gonna get the job done, I think the polycrystalline will do a good job for you. One thing I will say about this, the solar panels that are this size, I'm used to seeing them advertised as being portable, so that you can set them in the sunshine. You don't have to be in the sun yourself. You can hang out in the shade, stay cool while allowing your battery to charge. This being so small like this, I'm kind of surprised that it's designed for a permanent installation. So in theory, you could still move this around so that instead of having it permanently mounted down, you can move it to where the sun is. Although it isn't really designed for that, it doesn't have a kickstand or anything like that that would allow it to adjust to get the sunlight. So it is designed for permanent installation and it is kind of small in my mind. We have lots of different options for sizes of solar panels here at etrailer.com. So if you're looking for something a little more substantial, we do also have options for you there, but this is just gonna be a 10 watt solar panel. It is going to connect using the SAE fitting here. It's going to plug right into your solar controller. This controller is going to adjust the solar panel output for a quick, consistent charge of your battery. It does have an automatic multi-stage smart charging system that helps to extend the battery life and efficiently charged the battery in any weather. So it's gonna provide a continuous charge in full sun. And if it is going to be low light, if it's cloudy, that sort of thing, it's going to provide a pulse charge of three to five amps to help keep your battery going. This will also save your dead battery from as low as four volts. If we zoom in a little bit, you can see there, our led displays are gonna provide the charging progress and monitors the charging level throughout the night. So you can see where your battery is at, what kind of power you're getting from your solar panel and that sort of thing. This controller input voltage is capable of 15 to 22 volts. So it's gonna do a good job for you. And then that's going to plug right into either your clamps here or your ring terminal. So two different ways of connecting to your batteries. The clamps in my mind are more of like a temporary option. So plug it into your solar panel and controller and just temporarily attach to the posts on your battery. So if you have a battery that you don't typically charge with a solar panel, but you're needing to charge it up for today or something like that, you can clip those on. Now, this ring terminal is more of your permanent installation. So you'll mount those ring terminals to your positive and negative posts on your battery. And then they've got little slits here for you to zip tie this into position, so that it's always on that battery ready to be plugged into your solar panel when you get to your destination. So depending on what you're needing to get charged up, if it's your typical battery, probably mount these to it. If it's just kind of an auxiliary battery that you're wanting to charge up, you could use those clamps there. But distance, we have about 80 inches for our solar cable, 40 inches for our control cable. And then 20 inches for battery and the clamps and the ring terminals. So should do a decent job of allowing you to mount this where it's gonna get plenty of sunshine and still reach down to your battery. So, like I said, this is on the smaller end. We do have lots of options available for you here at etrailer.com. So if you are looking for a little bit more robust system, this is gonna be sufficient in trickle charging, I think, just depending on your needs for your RV.
