Thanks for your question and congrats on your new camper, Glenn!

I see you were looking at the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # T53MR. If you’re just doing casual towing, I wouldn’t recommend going with Timbrens. They’re really best for situations where the truck is under a constant load, like carrying weight in the bed or towing regularly.

When you’re not loaded, there’s usually about an inch of gap before the Timbrens engage, so things like speed bumps, potholes, or rough roads can feel a bit harsh.

A better option for occasional towing would be the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR. They’re made from a softer material, so they still give you support when you need it but ride much smoother day to day. You’ll still feel bumps, but it’s a noticeable improvement compared to Timbrens.

If you’re looking for the most adjustability, the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57288 are another great option. These let you fine-tune your ride depending on how much you’re towing. Just keep in mind they do require a little upkeep, you’ll need to maintain at least 5 psi in the bags. You can check that manually or add a compressor like the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL74000EZ to make adjustments from the driver’s seat.

Over all if you want an easy install and forget it with zero maintenance I'd go with the SumoSpring # SS45FR. It's more than strong enough to support your load and wont affect your day-to-day drive.

Where are you planning on taking the camper to first?

Since we have the same year/model truck (Durmax engine?) I will just add to Gwendolyn's expert advice. My srtup for pulling our 29ft camper is Summo springs and the Road Acrltive suspension (RAS), along with a Reese W/D hitch. This eliminated all the squat and I'm towing nice & level now. Is an adjustsble air bag system better? I can't say for sure. My goal was to level the truck with a fully loaded camper and preserve ride quality, without having another system to inspect/adjust before towing. The RAS was a more simplified system so that's what I went with. AndnI really can't tell a difference in ride quality from when I'm not towing. My neighbor has the same setup on his GMC 2500 Denali and tows a 5th wheel. The Summo/RAS leveled his truck and he says the ride feels stock. Both our trucks have a little "rake" when not towing...but that's the default on many trucks anyway. Hope this helps.

@KevinV Thanks for sharing all your tips, Kevin. The Road Active suspension, part # RAS4611 in this situation, is a really great pairing with your Sumos. They are super easy to adjust and even remove if needed or wanted. What kind of camper are you hauling?
