My name's Trevor with etrailer and today we are doing an overview and an installation of the Thule Roof Rack on year 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. Now this is one of my more favorite racks for this Subaru just 'cause it kinda helps name the aesthetic look of a factory roof rack on the Subaru here. And plus it works really well with a bunch of different accessories such as like your kayak carriers and your fishing rod holders. Now with our foot here, you might notice something immediately is that there's this little lock carved in on this front plate and this little plastic core that's just showing you that that's where the one key system would go if you did purchase that separately so you could lock your roof rack on your top of your roof and not have to worry about anyone taking it off. Now the foot also has a very easy installation. All you have to do is just pop this little panel off and you have this little bolt.
You just run that down until the tool that it comes with stops and that means it's tight on your roof. So you have the 50 inch wing bars on top right now and they, as you can see, they're pretty, even with the car, there's not a ton of overhang. So even if you're a taller person like me, you're not gonna have to worry about bumping your head on it as much as some of the other options for this vehicle. And a lot of clamp-on accessories would work with this, but if you wanted to use the T-track ones, there's actually this little slit here in between this rubber piece so you don't have to worry about cutting that to length to fit the accessory in. It just slides in between it.
And another nice thing about this bar and the T-slot is that I was in customer service for two years and I heard a lot of people not liking the rhino ones where you have to cut 'em to actually fit a T-slot in. With this one, it just slides straight in and you don't have to worry about cutting anything. So if you're looking for something that is easily used with T-track, then this is the bar for you. And I'm gonna go ahead and give you one measurement here. So from the top of our roof to the bar, it's gonna be about 4 1/2 inches.
So that's a good measurement to have. So if you do try and like pull into your garage with a kayak or bike, you'll know how much room you have to clear. To begin our installation, we're gonna first take our rail here and we'll slide that cap around on the end and you'll have a little tab in here. Press down on that and lift up on this end cap and it will pop out of place. And now we'll take these slots here on the top, line that up.
And whenever you get down to this portion, you can just pull up on the foot. It'll let it slide into place and then you can slide that all the way down and pop your rail end in. And now we're gonna go ahead and repeat the process on the other side. The only stipulation with these rails is that they have to be at least 27 1/2 inches apart. So as long as you are above that, you should be good. And now to put it on, all we have to do is take and put a rail over the top (rail clanks) and you will have to move these feet around a little bit to get 'em in place. And once you've got it even between the two crossbars and even laterally, you can go ahead and press up on the bottom piece. This whole part will come off. And then you can use this included tool from Thule to tighten up our clamp. (tool scrapes) (tool clicks) I want you to hear that click sound. That's just the torque setting on Thule's tool telling you that you've tightened it up enough. You can go ahead and put your cap back on and then repeat the same process on the other side of the vehicle.
