If you already have carriers or boxes that clamp around square bars, these are ready to go. The standard Thule square shape fits a wide range of clamp-on mounts from top accessory brands, so you can move your kayak rack, ski holder, or cargo box right over without buying new attachments.
You can add Thule’s One-Key System (sold separately) to lock the rack to your roof. It’s an easy upgrade that helps deter theft when your vehicle is parked overnight or at a trailhead.

The crossbars are great. I’ve used it many times for my kayak using it with Thule kayak carrier. To eliminate the whistling sound I ed some insulation foam in each end of the bars. Now it’s totally quiet.

The square bars are known to whistle compared to the aerodynamic cross bars. I recommend the Thule AirScreen XT part # TH22WV to divert the wind up and over the cross bars to eliminate some of the wind noise.

After having the rack on my car for about a year I can say the bars are still pretty noisy even with my modification. I know theyre square bars and by definition square bars are noisy but I frankly think Thules design of the feet that attach the bars to the roof is not particularly aerodynamic either and so the feet are contributing significantly to the wind noise, too. I bought square bars because I have some older roof attachments that were designed for square bars and I wanted to reuse them instead of having to buy all new ones for a different bar shape. The old attachments fit just fine on these bars so Ill save the money and live with the wind noise.
