Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Thule replacement hook. This hook assembly is for the Thule T2 bike carriers. It is going to work with all three of those models that you see on the screen there to hold your bike in place. This is going to be an exact replacement from Thule so you don't have to worry about fit issues or compatibility problems. It is gonna fit right in place of that original hook assembly.

I wanted you he hook that accommodates a 29” wheel and in you description I ordered the correct hook, however it is the same size of the old one the accommodates the original 26” wheel.

I hope this are better than the original hooks, only time will tell.. I hate Thule for having thin, rust prone hooks on their racks! My 5K.bike almost fell at 65 miles/hr! .it was hanging by a back wheel strapas the hooksnapped!Replacing the hook is a whole days work as the bolts rusted out too! For$xxx,they should have provided atainless and bolts and better metal or aluminum even.!I guess that is why they sell replacements parts! But etrailer have nothing to do with that! I'm just glad you carry the parts,deliver them fast and often best prices!You rock! Thule?? Questionable quality for premium prices!

I bought this hook based on a suggestion from the Thule rep that it had been redesigned to accommodate snow bike and 29er tires. Turns out, this is exactly like the older models and doesn't change the fit of the wheel. It's a fine product if you need a replacement, but it didn't change the fit of the wheels. There may be some 'redesigned' version out there, but this isn't it. If you want to fit bigger tires on an older T2, replacing the ratchet arm is more likely the solution.

The hooks that hold down the bike wheel had rusted through on Thule T2 hitch rack. I was faced with buying a new rack or fixing this one. I ordered the hooks, and my rack is like new! This repair saved me hundreds of dollars and hours of assembly and installation. Thank you

My rack was backed into by another car and the original bike carrier arm was severely bent. It's fantastic that Thule makes their racks with a full set of replacement parts so that I was able to just replace the parts I needed without the need to buy a whole new rack.

It was great that I could find the exact parts to fix my old Thule classic hitch rack after the hook rusted out. The only thing to note is you need to order the bolts separately (I ended up getting some at the hardware store rather than paying shipping again).

My original hold-down hook padding had become quite worn from my fat bike tires so I ordered a new one to go with my new ratchet arm and new fat bike. Looks like new except that Thule does not include new nuts and bolts with their replacement parts so all the new parts are held in place with old faded hardware.

This was to replace the factory hooks on a Thule rack. They have a design flaw that causes them to rust badly. Mine rusted nearly thru and was not able to hold a bike.
Hopefully the new ones are made of better metals and paint.

Never in 1 million years did I think that I think I was going to be able to find such a hard to locate piece, I saw for sure I had to buy another rack.

Hello Matt, thanks for reaching out. The ratcheting hooks on the Thule T2 Bike Rack should both be the same length. It could be the previous owner broke or lost one and replaced it with whatever they had available at the time. What model of the T2 bike rack do you have? The two parts you mentioned would be all you'd need, part numbers # 753-3579 and # 753-3583 as they appear to be the only parts that are damaged and the rest could be swapped over as needed.

Thule T2 Replacement Hook for 29 inch Tires
The replacement arm # 753-3583 is 12 inches from the inside of the hook to the end where it attaches to the ratchet arm, so it is an exact replacement and there aren't any longer versions available. The Thule T2 bike rack TH9045 should be able to accommodate your 29 inch tires. Your best option is to make sure to clamp the hook as close to the bike frame as possible on your tire to ensure you have room to ratchet the hook down fully.

For the original T2 916 bike rack the correct replacement locking ratchet arm is actually # 753-3579 which is the same one for the Sidearm bike racks. If you also need the hook for the arm it is # 753-3583. You may also need # 853-5960 which is the Replacement RQL Arm Bearing Half.

Will The Thule T2(917) Bike Rack Fit a 29" Diameter Tire?
The Thule T2(917) bike rack should fit up to a 29" diameter tire that is 3" wide with the stock parts according to Thule. So the Replacement Locking Ratchet Arm Assembly # 753-3579 and Replacement Hook # 753-3583 are going to be the same size as your stock parts. If your tires are wider than 3" you will need to consider upgrading to the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH83JV which will fit tires up to 5" wide and 29" diameter.

Since you have already used PB Blaster, the only thing I can tell you works is to drill them out carefully or use an easy out screw extractor tool. Normally heat is the key, but not with the plastic components.
