Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement pin for your SMI braking system.In our case here, we had a customer who had a breakaway, and the tow vehicle had separated from the towed vehicle, and he lost the breakaway pin. So, he's picking up a new one. To replace this, you just slide it back in and replace your cable. This is very important to have, because otherwise, your system's not going to work.You want to make sure you keep your pin in good condition, so whether that's you've lost one, you've broken one, or it's just gotten older and brittle and you need to replace it.
It's a simple and small enough part to keep on hand for those longer trips, so you might want to go ahead and pick up a couple of them when you get your system or when you get a replacement.Then of course before you leave, you want to make sure you hook up your safety cable and you're ready to hit the road. With that being said, that's going to do it for our look and installation of our SMI replacement pin.
We have been looking for a spare pin, since our friends had a mishap with their towed and a spare pin was needed. These worked perfectly with our Stay-in-Play. I purchased 2, one for us and one for them!

I purchased these so that if anyone took my adapter out of my breakaway switch I would not be stranded. It is good to have an extra one or two on hand.
Identical replacement pin Fits perfectly
I bought this as a spare to carry with me when traveling.
Bought as a spare pin since you don't want to be totally without one! Etrailer had exactly what we needed and easy to find on website.
I bought it as a "spare" for piece of mind when towing. Someone could easily remove it as a "prank" when parked and then you are stuck without flat towing capability. Small price to pay when you consider the potential inconvenience.
Was right part and delivered as promised
Bought so we would have a spare just in case the original was lost. Fit perfectly.
The product is a perfect match for the stay and play braking system. Like everyone else I was apprehensive at someone stealing the unsecured original and leaving us without brakes. I’m not thrilled that if it does get stolen and the toggle switch inside the side gets accidentally turned on the brakes will fully apply.
Seems a liability so having a back up makes sense to me and most everyone else.

Update: if your tow car has a standard transmission with hill brake assist do not adjust so much that the hill brake assist comes on. It doesn’t release quickly enough and your tow car brakes will lock up for a scary second or two
Part fit well on my Blue Ox breakaway switch. I tested to see if worked. Performed as designed. The cable attachment looks kind of funky. I replaced it with a small clevis.

The picture was very clear and allowed me to identify this pin as the one I needed. I purchased two for a backup. Because it sticks out of the front of the car, it looks too tempting for a child to walk by and pull it out. It was exactly what I needed

I bought this breakaway pin for my vehicle when it is not being towed to keep dirt and sand out and it fits perfectly.

I ordered the Break away switch pin. It arrived quickly and was exactly what I ordered. I use it as a back up. However, I did test it to make sure it would work for my Stay and Play braking system for my tow vehicle.
This was an unusually hard product to find...etrailer.com was the only place that had it. I wanted a spare pin for my breakaway, in case anything happened to the original while traveling. This is exactly like the original pin. Perfect fit, quick delivery and fair price.
Purchased the replacement breakaway pin for my Air Force One tow vehicle braking system. Product arrived as promised and in perfect shape. Exactly as advertised. They even checked with me to make sure it was what I was expecting. Great customer service.
I was advised to have a back up Breakaway Switch Pin for our Air Force One braking system. This pin works perfect and I will keep it with the car in the event the present one gets damaged or loss. etrailer sent it out quickly and now I have a backup to keep in our tow car. I would recommend getting a back up pin.

The product was as described and expected and delivered on time. What I really want to write about is the service from etrailer and Hally C. This was a small order but Hally C treated me with respect like was a long standing customer who was placing a huge order with them again. I felt the loop on my existing breakaway switch hanging on the front of my car was too much temptation for a kid to pull it and take off with it, so I decided I should carry a spare. Tried it and it seems to work. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere other than etrailer!
