Jake: Hey, guys. It's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement pin for your SMI braking system.In our case here, we had a customer who had a breakaway, and the tow vehicle had separated from the towed vehicle, and he lost the breakaway pin. So, he's picking up a new one. To replace this, you just slide it back in and replace your cable. This is very important to have, because otherwise, your system's not going to work.You want to make sure you keep your pin in good condition, so whether that's you've lost one, you've broken one, or it's just gotten older and brittle and you need to replace it.
It's a simple and small enough part to keep on hand for those longer trips, so you might want to go ahead and pick up a couple of them when you get your system or when you get a replacement.Then of course before you leave, you want to make sure you hook up your safety cable and you're ready to hit the road. With that being said, that's going to do it for our look and installation of our SMI replacement pin.

Works as it should. You dont need to have it installed to drive the tow vehicle, if you turn off the Stay N play system.

Update: if your tow car has a standard transmission with hill brake assist do not adjust so much that the hill brake assist comes on. It doesn’t release quickly enough and your tow car brakes will lock up for a scary second or two
