GasStop ACME vs POL Graphic

Note: This valve is only meant to be used on travel trailers and fifth wheels that have the ACME connection fitting. Please see the graphic above to double check what type of valve you need.

You're headed to the next campsite, and in the chaos of packing up, you forgot to turn off your propane system. While on the road, someone rear ends you, causing a propane line to come loose, and you now run the risk of a fire breaking out on your RV. It's a dreaded situation that no one wants to suffer through.

Unlike EFVs and other built-in limiters that just reduce the flow of gas, GasStop shut-off safety valve immediately and completely shuts off your gas supply when it detects either a major leak in your propane system or major failure of your regulator. This protects both your family and your travel trailer or fifth wheel, ensuring that your camping trip remains safe, fun, and worry-free. And while this safety valve will shut off for major leaks such as a large break in the hose, it won't shut off for small leaks that result from your regulator's small housing failure or clogged chambers. This means that your furnace or heater won't go out in the middle of the night while camping in the frigid mountains over a small, less dangerous leak.

Using the Pressure Gauge to Test for Minor Leaks

GasStop Safety Valve Testing for Minor Leaks

The integrated pressure gauge provides a clear and easy way to tell what your propane tanks gas pressure is while the gas is being used. If it's on "high", there's been an increase in gas pressure, most likely due to excessive heat, and you'll have to cool the tank down. If it's on "gas", then you'll know you still have plenty of usable gas left. And if it's on "low", then it's time to switch out your tanks. The gauge is also rotatable, so it can be used from any angle, though it is recommended to keep it no lower than 45 degrees from the sky.

The gauge can also be used to test for minor leaks. Once the GasStop safety valve has been installed and the gas appliances have been turned off, push down on the gauge 4 to 6 times to see what the gas pressure is. If the needle is below the red bar on the gauge, then one or more of the following is the cause: the cylinder valve isn't open, the GasStop safety valve has shut off, you have run out of gas, you haven't pushed the gauge the appropriate number of times, or the temperature is around freezing.

If the needle is above the red bar, note its exact position before turning off the valve on your propane tank. Wait 60 seconds for standard applications and 5 minutes for longer RV gas systems. If the needle is in the same position, you can continue to use your propane system. If the needle dropped during that time, there is a leak somewhere. You shouldn't use your propane system until that leak has been found and repaired.

Simple Installation

GasStop Safety Valve Installation

This GasStop safety valve is extremely simple to install. Once your propane system and all of your gas appliances have been shut off, tighten the GasStop safety valve onto your propane tank. Then re-attach your regulator and hose (not included) before checking for any leaks in your propane system. To allow the gas to flow, push down on the gauge face 4-6 times.

If your propane setup is in a particularly small or cramped compartment, consider adding a GasGear hose (sold separately). The hose has a 90-degree connection that makes it quick and easy to hook up to your propane tank in tight spaces.

The GasStop worked great for the trailer I owned when I purchased the devices. We were happy to have the extra margin of safety. However, my new rig has a tankless water heater. It seems that the sudden flow of propane triggers the GasStop to shut off the flow of propane. So, I have taken the GasStop off the tanks.

by:

This is a great safety device that not only shuts a fast propane leak down, it can indicate a slow leak in your propane system. This is a bargain considering what your safety is worth!!! It was very easy to install. I had to connect with the GasStop representative regarding an issue I had (my fault) and he was right on the problem and EXTREMELY helpful. I highly recommend this product.

This has been a reliable product with no issues. Low cost when you consider it could save your life!

by:

This item did not work for us, when we installed it you could smell the propane in and outside the RV and this is after multiple times of making sure that it was attached properly. We tried it on both tanks. Would not recommend. We would of returned it at that time but we threw out the packing when we received it.

I contacted GasStop after reading your review and they said it sounds like maybe the o ring seal is missing from your device. If you look inside where it attaches you will see a black seal or all brass if it is missing. If it is missing, please let us know and we can get you a replacement. These sometimes fall out in shipping or when being installed and since they are small they are easy to overlook. Let us know either way!

by:

Performs as advertised. Gauge is accurate at showing tank level, able to pressure test system for leaks, plus the safety of automatic shut off in case of a leak. Only drawback is that sometimes on initial startup, especially after a tank change, might have to “pump” the gauge several times until the air is out of the system before appliances will stay lit.

by:

Gives us peace of mind when driving with the propane on for our travel trailer fridge. But.. very hard to get the propane fridge to turn on. I need to disconnect it, start the fridge, then reconnect the gas stop. Then restart the fridge.

by:

Love the safety feature of the GasStop. Allows us to sleep soundly.

by:

Gives me piece of mind to not worry about a propane leak.

by:

The GasStop is well built and easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow and let you know the do’s and don’ts. I like the fact that you can test your systems to make sure you don’t have any leaks and how full or empty your tanks are.
This product will give me piece of mind knowing that we are safe in our 5th wheel

by:

Great item to purchase for your propane tank to help you monitor levels and have if a emergency or leak happens with your propane tank. Peace of mind when you are out camping with the family. Highly recommend. Check out etrailer for all your RV needs. They have excellent parts and outstanding service when ordering your parts and/or supplies. Love the Company.

by:

These a great and peace of mind as well. Can now see when tank is getting low with gauge and don't have to pick up tank like before. Great product that serves three things, shut off, gauge and safety!

by:

Have not installed as of today, will review at a later date. Great service from e trailer and Amy was very knowledgeable about the part. Thank you Amy J.

by:

very easy to install. I’m glad I got this because Dallas Shambaugh one of my lines broken automatically shuts off without the trailer Filling up the gas safety first should be on everybody’s mind.

by:

I like the peace of mind that this device provides. In a catastrophic propane line leak, it will shut off the flow at the tank. Very easy to install. I didn't realize that after a lengthy period with the tank off, the system must be primed again by depressing the gage several times. Gage is easy to ready.

by:

Installed 2 gas stops into 5th wheel. Everything works fine. Delivery was great as well as follow up.

by:

It was easy to set up and gave me the relative readings on my two tanks which is what I was after.

It provides an approximate level of propane left but does not indicate well when a tank is almost empty. It eliminates some guesswork but not a complete fix.

Worked great. Would recommend them to e veryone.

All is well product performing just as advertised. Easy install.

  • Why Would Gas Be Coming Out of Long Disconnected Propane Hose
It sounds like you have a bad regulator. These do have a lifespan of about 5 - 10 years so if yours is in that age range it isn't as surprising that it would give out like that. If you had the regulator switched to your 20-lb tank and it switched over to the open-ended hose then that's why I believe the regulator is bad. There are 2 options I recommend choosing from to replace your regulator; the JR Products Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 37207-30395 or the GasStop Emergency...

  • Recommended Gas Shut-Off For An Emergency Situation
To prevent a large gas leak in the event of a line burst you would want to install a shut off valve like the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve # GS24FR or the # GS84FR for a POL connection. This propane shut-off valve automatically turns off the gas supply if a major leak or regulator failure is detected. The pressure gauge lets you easily identify tank capacity and test for minor leaks.

  • Can I Close Off One Tank So I Only Need One Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve for 2 Tank Setup
It's really up to you how many you would like to use. If you plan on only keeping one tank open at a time while you're camping then 1 of the GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve # GS24FR should suffice. We just recommend using 2 for a 2-tank setup because it ensures that the valve is on both tanks (I know I'd get tired of swapping it back and forth) and a lot of setups include a regulator that has an auto-changeover feature meaning that when one tank is depleted the regulator starts...

  • Will the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve Work With a Generator
The GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve part # GS24FR can be used with generators, it's just a universal adapter. That said, it's designed to screw onto a 20/30 lb propane tank so you may need to use adapters depending on which kind of fittings your generator uses.

  • How to Check for Propane Leak Using the Gas Stop Device
When using the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve, # GS24FR and checking for a small leak in the system, the valve should be shut off. Using GasStop to Test for Minor Leaks: 1. Set up your system as described in your instructions. Turn off the tap on the gas cylinder. Now turn off your gas appliance(s). 2. Now turn the gas cylinder back on. Keep all appliances off for the time being. 3. Pump the pressure gauge on the GasStop up and down steadily at least 4 to 6 times....

  • Recommended Propane Regulator For 100lb Vertical Propane Tanks
The style of the regulator(s) you need will be determined by the way your gas lines are ran so that the vents in them can face down. If your lines coming off of the tank(s) run vertically then you'll want the MB Sturgis Vertical 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 108220; if they run horizontally then you'll need part # 108221 instead. The shut-off valves we currently offer ( # GS24FR) are more for an emergency situation and wouldn't allow you to physically shut off the lines. If you're looking...

  • Comparing The Camco Gas Gauge And Leak Detector With The GasStop Shut-Off Valve
The Camco Propane Cylinder Gas Gauge and Leak Detector # CAM59023 doesn't have the ability to shut off in the event of a leak. It's simply going to show you that there's a leak because the gauge reads as propane flows through it. The GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-Off Valve Gauge # GS24FR has the ability to shut off the flow if a leak is detected.

  • Recommended RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve for Campervan
Yes, we two options, the GasStop RV Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve with a POL Connection, # GS84FR and the GasStop Propane Emergency Shut-Off Safety Valve with ACME Connection, # GS24FR. Which item you need is dependent on the connection you have to propane tank. This propane shut-off valve automatically turns off the gas supply if a major leak or regulator failure is detected.
