Video Transcript for Thule T1 1-Bike Platform Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today you're gonna be getting a good look at the Thule T1 Classic platform-style one bike rack. This is for two inch, and inch-and-a quarter inch hitches. Part number TH9041. With the Thule T1 you can have all the quality you'd expect from a Thule bike rack, in a one bike version. It's perfect for meeting up with your friends at the trail head, or getting your bike to the starting line on race day. When it comes to single bike racks, most options are gonna require a roof rack. Many roof bike racks require you to remove your front tire.

With this one, it's not required. The lower height also makes your bike much easier to load. It's a heavy duty bike rack, it's perfect for your mountain bikes and road bikes. It's also fat bike ready right out of the box. In fact, its versatile design is gonna fit most bikes, regardless of their size, weight, frame style, suspension or brake style. With its 65lb weight capacity, it'll even work with most e-bikes.

It secures your bikes with zero frame contact. This is especially nice for carbon fiber bikes. It has a wheel hook, putting down pressure on your front tire, into the front wheel cradle. Here at the rear, the rear wheel strap keeps your rear wheel in place. The integrated cable lock makes securing your bike easy. And the hitch lock keeps your rack secure, its key alike to your cable lock.

For more security, here on the adjustable arm you have the option to add an additional locking core. You can find one here at etrailer.com to match your other two.The wheel hook is padded to help grip our wheel, and to ensure no harm comes to our bike. It's adjustable to fit wheel diameters up to 29 inches. The front wheel cradle's gonna fit fat tires up to 5 inches wide. It's also gonna work great with mountain bike tires, and road bike tires.

The rear wheel cradle is adjustable along the platform, to fit wheel bases up to 48 inches. And the strap easily converts to fit your fat bikes. As you can see, it's much longer. The platform can be loosened up, allowing you to center your bike on the bike rack. Here you can see, it goes back and forth, and side to side. And the tool is included. When not in use, the arm folds flat and the whole thing folds up against our vehicle. We'll use that same handle, raise it up, and lock it in place. This is ideal for pulling into your garage, or a tight parking spot. It's made out of sturdy steel construction, with a black powder coat finish. So it's gonna resist corrosion. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We're working with a two inch receiver here today. We've got our two inch sleeve installed. Let's go ahead and load up.So we'll just feed the shank into the receiver tube, and line up our pinholes. Once we get it lined up, we can take our included anti-rattle bolt, and thread that through on either side. Once we get it hand-tightened, we can take a 3/4 inch wrench or socket, and tighten it down the rest of the way. Get it nice and snug. On the other side, we'll take our included lock, push it in place, and then lock it. The nice thing about that anti-rattle bolt is, it's gonna help reduce all that play and rattle within our receiver tube and our bike rack, to make a nice solid ride for our bike. Which you can see, I'm giving a good shake there, and I'm shaking the whole vehicle. In order to load up our bike, we'll need to lower it down to the platform position. We can do that by raising up on the gray lever here, folding it down until it snaps into place. Then we can raise out our wheel hook, need to make sure it's up all the way, and then we can also undo our rear wheel strap. To load up your bike, you could set the front wheel into the front wheel cradle first, and then bring the back wheel around, try to get ahold of that strap, and then you can gently set it in place. With your bike in position, you can raise up your wheel hook, and it's gonna stop right in front of your brakes, or your fork, whatever comes first. You can lower it down until it makes contact, and give it one last good push. And then you know it's secure. For your rear wheel cradle, you can adjust it until it's center. And then just feed the ratchet down through, and then pull it tight. Now you can run your cable lock, so you wanna pull it all the way out, then go through my frame, and since we're long enough, to go through my wheel and then back into itself. With it in place, you can take your keys and then lock it up.Now with the bike loaded up, we'll go out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is gonna show side-to-side action, such as going around corners, or evasive maneuvering. The onto our solid speed bumps, this is gonna show an up and down action. Such as pulling in and out of a driveway, or out of a parking lot. And then finally onto our alternating speed bumps. This is gonna show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. And now you've had a good look at the Thule T1 Classic platform-style one bike rack. Part number TH9041.

What I didn't know was I needed to know the precise length of the bike I intend to haul so it doesn't hang too much to one side or the other. That is good and bad. Since I was told this was the only choice for a 2015 Mustang. This is what I'm stuck with. Better than nothing for a heavy E mountain bike. 563735

Great single bicycle carrier. I had a hatch mounted carrier before this one. A well needed solution to the hatch style carrier. Used it for a "27.5 plus" MTB and also a 29er. Worked fine for both. You may need a longer strap for the rear wheel if transporting a "plus" MTB. You will need a longer strap is transporting a "fat tire" MTB. If you will never carry a 2nd bike, this is a great carrier. If there is a chance you will take 2 bikes, get the 2 bike carrier. Upgrading the single carrier to a dual carrier isn't practical. There have been times that I wanted to ride with a friend and bring their bike. But a 2 bike carrier would be needed. Highly recommended single bike carrier. Bolt that holds carrier to car hitch requires a special wrench (included) deters theft. Carrier folds up easily when not in use. 585246

On time delivery, easy assembly & install. I did a pretrial fit to be sure I had all the adjustments covers, all went well... ready to go and Ride! 500995

Well constructed hitch. Problem is that with hitch either in raised position or with a bike on the carrier, the rear hatch will NOT open. Vehicle is a 2020 Porsche Cayenne. Rear hatch can only be used when no bike on hitch and hitch in lowered position. Did not have this problem with a competitor's hitch on my old Volvo. Instructions could be clearer as initially installed upside down. Could use more photos in instructions. 711943

Easy to follow instructions. Very high quality components. Fully assembled and installed in about 30 minutes. 491209

Ask the Experts about this Thule Hitch Bike Racks

  • Class 2 Hitch And eBike Carrier For A Chevy Bolt
The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7359 provides a 2" receiver and is a confirmed fit for the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. With a 2" receiver, you have a wider selection of bike carriers for your fendered ebike. This hitch is approved for a tongue weight of up to 200 lbs and it weighs about 30 lbs plus one bike at 45 lbs, you should be fine as far as the hitch capacity is concerned. I would also check the owners manual or a Chevy dealer first as well to confirm the vehicle...

  • Best Bike Rack for E-Bike with Fenders
I do have an option for you but since your e-bike has fenders, the Thule T1 1-Bike Platform Rack part # TH9041 will not work for you. Instead, I recommend the Rola Convoy 1 Bike Platform Rack part # 59307 which can be used as a frame mount bike rack and has a 50 lb weight capacity. The best thing about this bike rack is that you can carry more bikes if you would like by adding the 1 Bike Add-On for Rola Convoy Platform Rack part # 59310. The Convoy has a tilting feature that will allow...

  • Bike Rack Needed to Clear Tailgate on Short Bed Pickup
For your situation I believe that the Kuat Transfer 1 # TS01B is going to be your best bet because when I pulled the Thule T1 # TH9041 from the warehouse I found that from the center of the hitch pin hole to the middle of the wheel tray is about 22-1/4" (see attached photo). Since the T1 doesn't have a tilting feature it is more likely that your handlebar may interact with your tailgate but you can test it out on your end by holding your bike in this general area. The Transfer on the...

  • Kuat Transfer 1 Compared To Thule T1 Bike Rack On 2018 Mazda CX-5 Carrying Carbon Fiber Bikes
Both racks are a great choice and will fit the hitch but the Kuat Transfer part # TS01B is your best option because it weighs about 3 lbs less than the Thule T1 1-Bike Platform Rack part # TH9041 which isn't much but makes it a bit easier to take in and out of the hitch. The rack weighs about 26 lbs. It also tilts-away with the bike still attached for easy rear cargo access compared to the Thule that does not tilt-away at all. • Comparing Thule T1 Bike Rack and Kuat Transfer 1 Bike Rack
Actually the Kuat Transfer 1 part # TS01B you mentioned is lighter than the Thule T1 part # TH9041 by 3 lbs. It weighs 26 lbs and the T1 weighs 29. It's not a huge difference but if you prefer the tilting mechanism of the Kuat and aren't a fan of the latch system on the Thule I'd say the Kuat is your overall best choice! It's a big hit with our other customers who have tried it as well so I know you'll really like it. I attached a review video link for this rack for you to check out as well.

  • Thule T1 Platform Rack Clearance from Tailgate on 2019 Nissan Frontier Pickup
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're wanting to know whether or not the tailgate can be let down with bikes still on the Thule T1 # TH9041 . Since this is not a tilt away platform, you will likely be unable to lower the tailgate without contacting both the handlebars or the frame of the bike. If you wanted to still access the rear of your truck bed via the tailgate, I recommend going with a tilt-away platform rack like the RockyMounts Mono-Rail # RKY10007 . This rack tilts away to...

When the Thule T1 # TH9041 is folded up it measures 14-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to farthest part of the rack. When folded down that measurement is 28-3/4 inches. When folded up the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack is 6-1/2 inches. When folded down that measurement is 7 inches. I have included some pictures showing these measurements for you.

After all the arm on either system will be bearing down on that front wheel so you just have to make sure it is ratcheted down to a snug fit and you are good to go! • Recommended Bike Rack for Bacchetta Giro A20 Recumbent Bike
I may have a solution for you, however the Thule T1 1-Bike Platform Rack # TH9041 referenced in your question isn't a good option for your Bacchetta Giro A20 recumbent bike. The issue, as you mentioned, is the crank that sticks out beyond the front wheel. This will prevent the hook on wheel-mount racks like this one from getting access to and clamping down onto the wheel. Because of this design on your bike, you will need to go with a platform-style rack that uses a frame-mount design instead....
