Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Vertex Swing Arm

The Thule Vertex Swing is a sleek and stylish hitch-mounted bike rack with one serious upgrade compared with most other racks in its price range - a built-in, swing-away arm that allows easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Thule Vertex Swing Pin

The rack has a hinged arm at the base that allows you to completely swing the rack away from the rear of your vehicle with your bikes still loaded - no need to unload the bikes or remove the rack to get to your stowed cargo. To open it, simply pull a spring-loaded pin, loosen the hand knob and swing away.

Thule Vertex Swing Anti-Sway Cradles

The Vertex Swing has Hold Fast anti-sway cradles that grip your bike frame at three different points - twice along the top bar and once along a downward bar, such as a seat post. The cushioned cradles include reinforced rubber straps to secure the bikes in place and No-Sway Cages that prevent not only sway, but also front-to-back movement and bike-to-bike contact. The cradles also include advanced grooves that accommodate your bike cables.

Thule Vertex Swing Arching Arms

The arching dual arms of the rack stagger the Hold Fast cradles so that the bikes hang at varying heights. This is just one of the ways that the Vertex Swing prevents pedals and handlebars from hitting each other when you are loading your bikes and during transport. In addition to allowing different bike heights, the rack arms on the Vertex Swing are longer, adding more space between the cradles than standard dual-arm racks to protect your bikes even better and to make it easier to get four bikes on the rack. The arching arms, just like standard dual-arm racks, give great bike support, and it's less likely that you will need a bike adapter bar. However, adapter bars might be needed for smaller, alternative and women's frame bikes.

Thule Vertex Swing Upright Bar

The upright bar - or mast - of the rack is taller than standard hitch-mounted racks and is arced slightly to offer your bikes greater clearance from both the ground and the back of your vehicle. A built-in handle in the mast also makes it easy to transport the rack to and from your vehicle and to install it in your hitch receiver.

Thule Vertex Swing Hitch Switch

The Vertex Swing includes an ergonomic quick-release lever (HitchSwitch) that enables you to fold the dual arms down for convenient storage. And the handle audibly clicks to reassure you that the arms are locked in place.

The Vertex Swing comes with an anti-rattle device incorporated into the shank to reduce vibration and noise in the hitch for a smooth, quiet ride - simply tighten the hitch bolt with a wrench.

Thule Vertex Cable Lock

For security, the Vertex offers a built-in cable lock with a One-Key System cylinder that secures your bikes to the rack. The cable lock stores inside the mast when not in use. A Snug-Tite hitch lock (THSTL2 - sold separately) is available for locking the rack to your hitch.

Video Transcript for Thule Vertex Swinging 4 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be reviewing the Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch hitches, Part Number TH90131XT. One of the most noticeable features of the Thule Swing Away Bike Rack is it's ability to be able to swing away from the vehicle. You can do that with the arms down, if you need to grab something real quick from your rear hatch, or you can do it with all 4 bikes loaded onto the bike rack. Very simple process, I just want to go ahead and show you that we can do it with our cradle arms out. All we have to do is unscrew the knob here at the back. Once we feel that disengage, you'll be able to feel it rotate around, lift up on this T-handle. Lift up on this T-handle, re-insert this one, to secure the 2 arms together.

That's going to keep the bike rack from being able to come back towards us, or banging into the vehicle. Then we rotate this to lock that in place as well. With that to the side, it's going to allow our rear hatch door to fully open, avoiding contact with the bike rack or any bikes. Then we have full access to get our gear out as needed. Another great feature is how easy this bike rack is to use.

Now to bring out the duel cradle arms, all you have to do is lift up on the lever here. It's going to allow you to swing these out. This bike rack features a unique arc design here in the cradle arms. That's going to allow the bikes to be able to be loaded on a little bit easier. It's going to allow the bikes to hang at different levels so you're not going to have as much interference with the handlebars and pedals. The upright mast is going to feature an arc that's going to improve ground and hatch clearance.

It's also going to allow better support with a fully loaded bike rack. Focusing here on the cradles, you can see that the straps are a nice rubberized material. They're really going to protect the finish on your bicycle making sure that no harm or damage is done to the finish on your bike. You're going to have 2 options as to bringing this over the frame and securing it through the holes. You've got multiple holes that are going to fit a wide variety of different size bike frames. The other thing is right here in the cradle, you've got multiple channels in here, this is to accommodate any wiring or cable you may have running underneath the frame of your bike.

This right here is going to be an anti sway cage. It's going to go in the upright portion right underneath the seat post of your bicycle. It's going to keep the bikes from swaying back and forth into each other. As you can see it's going to alternate because the way that you position your bikes on the bike rack is going to alternate from handlebar to seat post, handlebar to seat post. Another great feature is that here in the housing it has an integrated cable lock so when it's not in use. You can actually store it in this portion here. It's going to stay out of the way. When you have all your bikes loaded, you just bring the cable lock out, bring it to the end of the arms right here. Then it's going to go into this portion, again built in. It's going to lock in place using the provided key, accessing the keyhole and giving it a twist on this side. Another unique feature about the Vertex is that it has this nice little carrying handle right here. It's going to allow you to easily move around in your garage or storage area. It's going to allow you to easily lift it up and put it into your hitch. We're going to slide the shank, into the receiver tube of our hitch. This is designed for 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. We're going to look for our pin holes to line up with one and other. Then we can install our anti-rattle bolt. We're going to take the included bolt, start threading it through. The shank of the bike rack has threads that are on the inside. It's going to receive your bolt, once it's really tight. It's actually going to take the shank and bring it to one side of the hitch which is going to reduce any rattle or wobble that we've had. They're going to include a couple different tools, both of these tools would work. As well as a 3/4 inch socket with a wrench. Once we have that tight you can see that there's not any play here in the receiver tube of the hitch. Now before we load up our bike, I just want to go over a few measurements with you that's going to help you determine if this bike rack's going to be a fit for your vehicle. You want to make sure that you have enough clearance from the back of your vehicle to any of the upright portions of the bike rack. You just want to make sure nothing interferes with your bumper for the outermost portion of your vehicle. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the front or to this back knob, where it's a little bit more loosened up. That's going to be about 8 and 1/2 inches, that's going to be the clearance there. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar is going to measure at right around 14 inches. Now I'm going to show you how to load a bike onto your Vertex. Very simple process, lift up the lever here at the top, bring out the duel cradle arms. Next we'll go ahead and undo our cradle straps. I have to go ahead and fold these out of the way that way they don't interfere when it's time to load up our bike. All right with all those undone we can grab our bike, simply place it onto our bike rack. Now that we have the bike frame sitting nicely in the cradles, we'll simply just start bringing over the straps. Then we'll go ahead and attach the anti sway cradle. Now this bike rack is going to feature 3 points of contact per bike that you have loaded up. One, 2 and 3, now that we have all 4 bikes loaded up. We're going to go ahead and grab our cable lock bring it over the frames of our bike. Place it into the end of the arm then move it to a locked position. It's going to keep anybody from being able to grab any of the bikes off of our bike rack. Thule also improves this black strap with a nice little buckle on the other end. This is designed to go through the bicycles. It's going to keep the handlebars and the tires from being able to knock into each other as your going down the road. We're going to go ahead and install that real quick as well. This is designed for 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers, it's going to have a weight capacity of 140 pounds. The Thule Vertex is made from a premium steel construction with a nice black finish and molded covers. We also offer a Snug Tite Hitch lock that can lock the bike rack to your vehicle. That's going to be sold separately with Part Number THSTL2. The distance between the bike rack arms outside to outside is going to measure about 12 and 3/8 of an inch. The length of the arms are going to measure about 25 inches. If you have a woman's bike, a child's bike or bike with an alternative frame. Thule's Bike Adapter Bar is going to help you load this onto your bike rack. That's available and sold separately with Part Number TH982XT. Now we're going to take this bike rack out on our test course and show you how it performs. We're going to take it through our slalom course which is going to simulate having to make sudden turns, sharp corners or evasive maneuvers. Next is going to be the alternating bump course, this is going to show you the twisting motion of the bike rack. It's going to simulate going over uneven pavement or hitting a pothole. Finally we're going to go over the solid bumps, this is going to show you the up and down movement of the bike rack. Which is going to simulate going in and out of your driveway or over a speed bump. That's going to do it for today's review of the Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch hitches, Part Number TH90131XT. .

My first bike rack, I've seen various racks but have never touched one to now. This is for our 2013 Outback with aftermarket 2 inch receiver hitch. Katie D at etrailer assisted me with selection, then Rebecca has been following up. Shipping was about as expected and the box arrived totally damage free. Good service there. Assembly would have been way faster with decent instructions, these are frankly inexcusably bad, both text and pictures. There are a few parts such as the "anti sway cradles" that first, come in 2 pieces when it could be just one, and second, could have been pre-attached to the cradles. And why do the inner 2 positions of the rack get these, but not the outer 2? And why are there 4 of section 1 of the cradles, but only 2 of section 2? Maybe some logic will become apparent when I actually install 3 or 4 bikes on it. And a small bolt and lock nut to fit were loose in the big box, no apparent use for it, cannot see anyplace it may have detached itself from. Just makes me wonder. Once the hassle of assembly is out of the way, it mounts to the car with a single bolt, and that serves to secure it tightly in the receiver, thus no wobbling or rattling, a test fit of a bike and a drive confirmed all is good. Putting the bike onto and off the rack is very straightforward and fast. And the bike was held very securely, virtually no motion back there. The swing away feature works great, I simply was not going to buy any rack that blocked access to my hatch. The unit seems quite well made, quite heavy - lighter would be nice, but then a robustly built product that will go for the long haul is not going to be light. I guess one person could attach the rack to the car, but sure is going to be easier with 2. To remove it, 1 person can handle it w/o difficulty. We got the locking pin accessory, very easy to use, will keep honest people honest, but like most locks it's not going to stop anyone who's determined to steal the thing. To sum up, I have virtually no experience with bike racks, but once past the assembly stage, I found myself liking this one more and more. I'm going to rate is a notch short of excellent, simply because better instructions would be a huge help. Past that, it appears that it will serve the purpose very well. 180866

I've only hauled bikes once with this carrier, but it is clear that it's well built and well designed. It doesn't sway at all in my 2" ClassIII Curt hitch (also bought from etrailer) on my 2015 Subaru Forester. Note that I also sprung for the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock (THSTL2) and I believe this aids in keeping the carrier well anchored. The swing away feature on this carrier is excellent. I had to open the back door a number of times and it is pretty easy to manage without having to remove the bikes. A note on installation instructions...I found overall assembly easy, but I had trouble understanding how to set up the bike anti-sway components. I found a youtube video that helped. Just search for the TH9031XT and it may help you, too. Once when I driving with the carrier folded and no bikes on it I happened to notice something bouncing on the road in my side mirror. I pulled over and checked the rack and one of those bike anti-sway pieces had fallen off. Glad I happened to notice it so I could go back and retrieve it. Now I drive with them off when the carrier is not hauling bikes. You may want to do the same. However, I keep the rubber frame straps on all the time since they are attached so securely. Anyway, I didn't feel it was worth downgrading my rating because of this, but beware of this so you don't lose parts you need. Angela in customer services was very helpful keeping me updated on my order status. I wish every company had customer service like theirs. 289906

I have yet to use it on a long-term driving trip, but as of now, it works as it should. The reviews I found when I did my research hold true in that fitting four bikes on here is a bit challenging. It takes some trial and error figuring out the order of the bikes and which way they face so that they can all fit. Kids' bikes and beach cruisers are also tricky but it can be done. Once they are on, though, it works as it should...easily swinging out of the way to access the back of the SUV. 196366

Its working great. The long driving trip was no problem for four bikes. Accessing the back door was easy with the bikes swinging out of the way completely. It does what its supposed to. Well worth the cost.

This particular bike rack is a perfect fit for my 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. Installed with absolutely no modifications. My Wrangler has a dealer installed hitch receiver and the standard 17" spare tire. The rear door and window clear the hitch with an inch or two to spare. The only thing is the door does not quite open far enough that it doesn't swing back shut, I keep a bungee handy for this. 190318

Walter - did you say you can fully open the rear door of your Jeep? Thanks Glenn

Glenn,Almost, Id say its about 10-15 degrees short of fully open, just shy enough that the door tends to swing shut, but still more than enough and more than anything else I looked at. I submitted the pics to etrailer but I guess they dont have them posted.

Walter thanks for responding to Glenn's question. I was able to track down your photos and have added them to your review for all to see.

Used the rack for the first time over the weekend on our 2014 Toyota Sienna. Really good product- it was easy to install into the hitch (not too heavy), mounting the bikes was straightforward (although moving all of the straps out of the way as your are mounting can be frustrating, but this is probably true of all racks), and it rode solidly through turns and over speed bumps. I would definitely recommend this product, and the Etrailer team was great, from assisting with research/selection through the purchasing process. 206196

Originally ordered another manufacturers rack that the manufacturer said would work, but clearly they were wrong. Etrailer took back at there expense and recommended Thule 9031xt which absolutely worked perfectly. I appreciate time Michelle and Bridget took with me and shipping order promptly. 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. 213608

Only complaint is weak seat post stabilizer design. Offer limited support and fall off. Otherwise still good rack.

As you can see from the picture the bikes do not sit evenly and I suspect this is due to the bikes. Also, it is doubtful I will ever get four bikes on this rack with these two. Just not enough space to do so. I gave an excellent score because all other factors are great. Easy load although the rack is heavy and is difficult to connect with the hidden hitch. The bikes went on a 300 mile trip and were very secure. I felt very comfortable driving with this rack. I also have the hitch lock which is interesting. Two sets of keys, one which sets the lock and one which opens and closes. You must be careful that the lock is really locked. Give it a spin and if it falls off, you did not lock it. What I determined is that you must hold the lock insert when you withdraw the key to make sure it has locked. Once I figured these things out , I was good to go. Also happy. 199913

Almost Perfect We use this rack on our Mazda Tribute. We almost bought the Yakima "Swing Daddy" but found it was too tall to open the rear window. It works great! The system for holding the bikes is secure, non-damaging and easy to use. It has a cable system for locking the bikes to the rack and a lock to secure the rack to the receiver. The swing-out feature is extremely useful, but I have one gripe with it. A threaded bolt secures the swing out arm and ours "cross-threaded" after a few weeks. We sent it back for a replacement and have had no problems since, but this is really a poorly designed feature of an otherwise outstanding product. The other brands of this type of rack have the same issue. Be aware that this rack is heavy, but with practice is not too hard to install and remove. I have highly recommended this rack to others. 1584

I ordered the Thule Revolver 4 Bike Hitch Mounted Swing Away Bike Rack to go with the 2" Curt Trailer Hitch that I also ordered from etrailer.com to go on my Honda Pilot EX 2005. I am very pleased with the fast order processing and shipping of both products. The bike rack is very well built and much more sturdy than expected. It looks good, and the install took less than an hour to mount the new trailer receiver and to assemble the bike rack. I recommend watching the install video, since it made things go very smoothly without having to read the directions, although they are very detailed as well. I wasn't sure that this rack was worth the money, but now I am pleased that I did spend the extra money and get the best. 18557

I'm 65 and I was able to install the Thule TH9031XT and the Curt hitch mount just fine. My hands are arthritic, so I'm saying this with pride. Every part appears to be of very high quality. I'm very pleased with both items. The swing-out feature works well for our 2014 Wrangler. You can't swing the gate out 'completely' to lock it out, but plenty far, like 97%. I read where someone used a bungee to hold his gate open. If I weren't on flat ground, I might do the same. Highly recommended. 362716

I am really happy with this product and my first experience with etrailer was excellent. My only history with bike racks has been the inexpensive over-the-spare-tire-rack-type so I cannot compare this to other high end models, but the rack is easy to load and does everything I want. I live in a city where the streets are in a state of constant disrepair, yet I noticed very little chatter or sway from the rack as I did my best to swerve around potholes. This rack is pretty heavy, as are all swing arm racks, so you may want to consider the lighter and and less expensive tilt arm style if you plan on moving the rack around a lot AND you do not need to access your rear hatch. Good luck. 399883

Overall I've been pleased with this bike rack for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. However, one thing I've noticed recently is that there's more "give" and "bounce" in the hitch, and the bolt that secures it to my receiver hitch doesn't always stay tight anymore. Wonder if other people have encountered this? Also, I've had trouble configuring a good setup to fit 4 bikes easily -- oftentimes I've had to remove pedals. But part of that has to do with the types of bikes we haul (BMX race bikes) which have narrower openings between the top tube and down tube. etrailer was great during the purchase and even helped us get replacement parts. 390028

Thanks so much. Your U-Tube videos showing the racks fitting different cars was extremely helpful for us, because we have a Rav 4 with the spare in the back and wanted a rack for 4 bikes. See how well this one fits in the attached photo. The ability to swing out works for the RAV4 too even withall 4 bikes loaded. It saved us lots of time. BTW.. our RAV 4 is a 2008 in case someone else asks for a rack for the same car. 149519

From opening the box to having it mounted on my car took less than 30 minutes. It was very easy. I was afraid that the hitch might be to heavy for an over 50 female to install, but I had no problem. The handle is very helpful in attaching to the hitch as well as carrying. The swing out works great for allowing me to get into the back of my 2014 Buick Enclave with the hitch on. Have only used it so far with one bike. I like the built in bike lock. Also purchased the anti-rattle hitch lock. It was pricey but I figured after what I spent on the hitch, I needed to protect my investment. 281982

This bike rack is excellent quality and very practical. We use the "swing" feature constantly...well worth the extra money. The embedded bike lock cable is a nice touch! Keep in mind that if you want to lock your rack to the hitch, the "snug-tight" hitch lock must be ordered separately (then your whole rack can't be stolen). 262493

I purchased this swing away bike rack for use on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The rack was extremely easy to assemble and install. Prior to purchase I was a little concerned about the rack clearing the spare tire, but after watching the review on etrailer.com and verifying the dimensions, it clears the tire with room to spare. I really like the fact that the rack has an integrated locking cable for enhanced security. The rack looks great, seems to be well made and so far I'm very happy with the purchase. 418292

Works as advertised. Could only get on three bikes as my wife's pass through style bike would not attach properly, even with the additional Thule bar. Used this bar on the kids 24" wheeled bikes and worked fine, but bar was almost too long. Swing mechanism worked well to acces the back of our minivan. Also works when parked next to another car, but you can't always swing it fully to the side. I still think fitting 4 bikes would be a challenge without having bike to bike contact. 418437

Typical excellent THULE quality in design, function, and packaging. As expected, there is some assembly required which is very easy and straight-forward. The instructions are very clear, and assembly was accomplished with no issues. It operates smoothly and very provides very solid lock-up in the 'carry' position and also when swung away from the vehicle. NOTE: I have an SUV, and it appears that there is sufficient clearance for those SUVs with the spare mounted on the back. 382870

I got TH9031 bike rack for my 2010 Toyota Sienna. I did an internet search for products that suited my needs but I really didn't find anything that offered what this bike rack has which is a bike rake with 4 bike capacity that swings open to allow the back hitch to open. The bike rack is GREAT! It works perfectly. Easy installation, very well made and I got it at a fraction of the price of the other competing products in less than a week! I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars!! 46763

On the positive side: The rack's ability to swing out from the car makes it easy to open the car's hatchback. On the negative side: The rubber straps don't last long and most of them have broke within one year. The cradles that came with this rack are not suitable for carbon fiber frames, and had to be switched out with appropriate cradles. And those cradles slide too easy through the tube so that after a short drive the bikes have bunched up in an awkward position. 432748

Very easy to install. Bought the carrier a year ago and it works great. We love the way it swings out of the way so that you can open the back door of the car (2015 Honda CRV). Even with 3 bikes loaded it swings easy. The only problem I see for the future is that the rubber straps seem to be weather cracking (we do remove them after each use). We have used the carrier about 20 times so I hoe the straps don't break. Other than that great product that I would recommend. 321124

I'm happy I went with the Thule Swinging bike rack. I gave 4 stars because I needed an adapter for a childs bike and an adult mountain bike. The arms of the rack are too wide for two of my bikes. With practice, it's been easy to load by myself. Only had two bikes on the rack so I cannot say how well 4 will fit. This rack is sturdy, not noisy, and easy to swing open when I need to access the trunk. I just wish I'd known that some adult bikes would need adapters. 247851

After owning this product for a year, it remains the best bike carrier that I have ever owned. It is quick and simple to install, and easily carries our 3 bikes, including 2 beach cruisers. While the bikes are on the rack, it is simple to swing out and gain access to the back of our vehicle (2014 Traverse), and just as simple to put back in position. I have experienced no issues with this carrier, and remain completely satisfied with my purchase. 289476

This bike rack did exactly what was advertised. It definitely met our needs, all 4 of us. It has created a lot more opportunities for fun as well. I like hauling the bikes at night though because during the day time when I can look in the rearview mirror and see the rack swaying with the motion of the road, I get the creeps. I'm not used to that much bounce on anything connected to the car. But it's fine. Works great. 427784

We've used this a couple of times and it works great. I re-tighten the bolt holding the rack to the hitch when we refuel, which takes a couple seconds. Not a big deal, but not sure why he design doesn't use the steel pin that goes all the way through the bracket and stay in place wih cotter pin. Much harder to load kids and women's bikes without the top rail accessory, so I suggest you get that too. 324770

This is a great product, as far as offering an easy way to integrate a fold out of the way style bicycle carrier into any vehicle that uses a 2 inch receiver, it almost can't be beat. One note however, if you can afford to go to a non-frame suspension model, just invest there. The reason is that they are a bit nicer with odd sized bicycles, and ease of loading will keep you using the device. 238622

Havent used the rack yet, however I assembled it and attached it to the hitch on my vehicle. The rack seems pretty solid as I had hoped. Shipment was fast. I chose this rack over the swingdaddy because of its extra distance from the hitch to the vertical arm and the 140 lbs. rating versus the 120 lbs. rating on the yakima. We'll see how it holds up over time. 29469

Works great on my Honda CRV 2012. You're going to need the bike frame adapter for kids, women's, or high end mountain bikes. Seems like a solid, well made product. Be aware this is quite heavy and not for casual use. Once you have it on, you won't want to take it off too often. However, if you need to securely transport 4 bikes frequently or over long distances, I don't think there's a better product out there. 11771

It survived a 10,000 mile road trip with a very heavy Pedigo Strech electric bike. It did stress and break a couple of the rubber straps, but since I only have the one bike, I had extras. Again, the bike is very heavy and I did go on some dirt roads.

A spring pin and hand knob are all that is needed to operate the bike rack's swing away feature for ease...

  • Comparing the Thule Vertex and Apex Trailer Hitch Mount Swinging Bike Racks
  • The main differences between the Vertex, # TH9031XT, and the Apex, # TH9027, are the type of cradles each has and the anti-rattle function on the Apex. The Apex features Hold Fast cradles which offer road-dampening technology (RDT) and detachable anti-sway arms. The RDT technology provides 2 Layers of cushioning to absorb road shock and minimize vibration. The upper layer is composed of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a gel-like substance that gently but firmly cups your bike frame and...

  • Swing Away Bike Rack Recommendation for Mercedes Sprinter 3500
  • My favorite bike rack to recommend is the Thule Vertex Swing part # TH9031XT because it can carry up to 4 bikes and can swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle to give you complete access to the rear cargo area with bikes loaded. The arms of the rack can also fold down when not in use so that the bike rack doesn't take up much space as well. Check out the review video I attached for more info on this rack as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack that Allows Rear Door to Swing Open on a Jeep Wrangler
  • The Thule Doubletrack, # TH990XT, does not fold down with the bikes loaded so you would at the very least have to remove the bikes and then fold the center arm down to swing open the rear door on your Jeep Wrangler. What I recommend for complete access to the rear of your Wrangler would be to use a swinging bike rack like the Thule Vertex, # TH9031XT. First, the pin hole to back of mast measurement on this rack is 14 inches so make sure the pin hole to back of spare tire measurement...

  • Recommended 4 Bike Rack for 2006 Honda CRV That Allows Rear Door to Fully Open
  • Lets begin with the hitch. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 75690. The warranty stipulations of the Curt hitch you referenced require that a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 be used, but the Draw-Tite has no such requirement. When we installed this hitch on a 2nd generation CR-V, we found that the clearance distance between the hitch pin hole and the furthest rearward point of the spare tire was 9 inches. This means that the rack you choose needs to have a hitch pin...

  • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for an Electra Townie Bike
  • The Electra Townie bikes have odd shaped crosstubes on the frames. To use a hanging bike rack with a bike like this will require an adapter bar like the part # 64005. My favorite hanging style bike rack is the Thule Vertex Swing part # TH9031XT as it can swing away with bikes loaded to allow for complete access to the cargo area of the vehicle. This rack will fit a 2 inch hitch like what you have. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • Tilting or Swinging Trailer Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a Honda Pilot
  • There are racks that you can tilt or swing that will allow you to keep the bikes on while tilting the rack including the Vertex # TH9031XT.Or for a tilting rack that will allow you to keep the bikes on it while tilting, I recommend the Softride Dura, # SR26247. Instead of tilting down the Dura tilts out, as you can see in the video I have linked for you. This design allows you to keep the bikes in place while tilting the rack out for greater access to the rear of the vehicle. I have...

  • Comparison of Thule TH9027 Apex and TH9031XT Vertex Swinging Bike Racks
  • There are a few differences between the Thule # TH9031XT Vertex and # TH9027 Apex Swinging bike racks. The Apex provides upgraded Hold Fast cradles with two layers of padding to product the bikes during transport. There's a big difference in how the racks attach to the trailer hitch receiver. The Vertex uses a traditional set up, where the shank of the bike rack would be slid into the receiver, the hitch pin inserted and tightened down to hold the rack in place and also to prevent rattling...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Use with a Thule Tram Ski Rack Adapter # TH9033
  • This Thule Tram Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Ski Carrier Adapter, part # TH9033, is designed to work on a lot of bike racks, but it is not designed to work with the Thule Helium Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch Hitches - Tilting - Hitch Mount, part # TH970XT. Here are a few bike racks that # TH9033 is designed to work on and should work well on your 2004 BMW X3: Thule TH9027, TH9025, TH9026, TH9031XT, TH9030XT, TH9029XT, TH9028XT, TH956, TH957, TH958, and TH934XTR hitch-mounted...

  • Hitch Recommendations for a 2014 Outback and Forester for a Bike Rack
  • There are 2 inch hitches available for both the 2014 Subaru Forester and Outback Wagon. Either vehicle will work as well as the other in terms of installing a 2 inch hitch to carry a bike rack. If I were you I would not base your choice between the vehicles on anything hitch or bike related. Curt hitches that are not rated for use with weight distribution systems do require the use of a stabilizer strap like part # 18050. This is a Curt only deal, if you bought the Forester and were...

  • Solutions for Carrying 4-5 Bikes with 2010 Acura MDX
  • Yakima and Thule both make 5-bike racks, the Thule Vertex # TH9030XT, the Thule Apex you mentioned and the Yakima DoubleDown you mentioned. These racks can indeed be tilted, but the bikes would need to be removed before tilting the rack. If you were to attempt to tilt the rack while the bikes were in place, the bikes would hit the ground or the internal stop would become damaged because of the weight of the bicycles on the rack. Yakima and Thule both make a swinging bike rack, the Yakima...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2014 Acura MDX with Factory Hitch
  • I would recommend the Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Rack # TH9031XT. This is a great bike rack with narrow arms that can accommodate several bike styles and can hold up to 4 bikes. What's really great about this bike rack is that it can swing away from the rear of the vehicle it is used on to give complete access to the rear cargo area. So if you have to get in the rear hatch of your vehicle after you have the bikes loaded you wouldn't have to remove all the bikes to get in there and then reload...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Subaru Forester
  • For a hitch with a 2 inch opening confirmed to fit your 2015 Subaru Forester you would want the Draw Tite hitch part # 75876 as it has been confirmed as a fit and would work well with the Thule Vertex Swing part # TH9031XT that you are interested in. This is my favorite bike rack that we offer by the way and the one I try to recommend as often as possible. I attached a review video for this rack that shows it being demoed on a 2015 Forester just like yours. If you plan on carrying...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2006 Honda Odyssey
  • The most popular bike rack we sell among owners of 2006 Honda Odysseys is the Thule Parkway 4 Bike Rack # TH956 that you referenced. I think this would be an excellent choice as this is a quality bike rack. Check out the review video I attached that shows this rack being reviewed on a similar Honda Odyssey as yours. If you are looking for an even nicer bike rack check out the Thule Vertex # TH9031XT. This rack has many of the same features as the # TH956 as well as having the ability...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations that Allow the Rear Hatch to Open on a 2004 Ford Expolerer
  • Most of our hitch mounted bike racks will allow you to open the rear hatch of your 2004 Ford Explorer without having to remove the bike rack. I have attached a link to all of our bike racks for you to check out. As long as the bike rack has a folding, tilting or swinging feature, then it will allow you to open your back hatch. For 3 bike models, I recommend are the Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Rack, # S63365, or the Thule Helium Aero 3 Bike Rack, # TH9043. Both bike racks have many useful...

  • Swing Out Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for a Roadtrek RV with Continental Spare Tire Kit
  • Any trailer hitch mounted accessory you use has to come out further than the spare tire on the back of the Express van so you will need to take a measurement. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your van straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire. I have included a link to an FAQ article that will help. The swinging Vertex, # TH9031XT, measures 14 inches from the hitch pin hole to the back of the up right bar. And it measures 8-1/2 inches to the foot...

  • Availability of Swinging Thule 5-Bike Rack for 2011 Honda Odyssey

These racks will tilt rearward away from the vehicle once the bikes are removed, allowing access to the rear of the vehicle. There's a few differences between the two racks, the Apex offers higher quality cradles that are more heavily padded. The Apex also offers an upgraded shank that has a built-in locking anti-rattle device as well as an integrated cable lock. The Vertex and Apex are also...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack that Can Tilt with Bikes On it for a 2012 Ford Explorer
  • The issue with certain racks not being able to tilt with bikes attached is an issue with the racks themselves and not the vehicles. Ground clearance is typically not the problem but it is rack design and what racks are rated for that limits its abilities. You may end up damaging a rack and/or the bikes if you tried to tilt the rack down with the bikes attached. Some racks will allow you to tilt them with bikes loaded. For example the Thule T2 Classic, # TH9044, which is a platform style...
