Finally, you no longer have to choose between carrying your bikes or your gear. This versatile rack combines a platform-style bike carrier with a cargo basket, giving you the ability to simultaneously transport 2 bikes and 100 lbs of gear with your 2" hitch. This means no more leaving that extra camping gear behind because you want to take your bikes along, and no more switching out your bike rack and cargo carrier for separate use.

Platform-Style Bike Rack

sport rider with 4 bikes

The Sport Rider SE consists of a two-bike base unit and a removable two-bike extension unit, allowing you to use the carrier as either a two-bike rack with the cargo carrier or as a four-bike stand-alone rack. The 2 pieces also make the rack easy to install because you can slide the base into your hitch and secure it before adding the extension. An anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the tube.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

ratcheting hooks

The Sport Rider SE uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting, cushioned hooks easily adjust along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The release buttons allow each hook to slide up the ratcheting arm for bike removal. The hooks function independently, which means you can position them to carry bikes of different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Wheel Holders

The wheel hoops accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60" by sliding along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with easy-to-use hand knobs, and the Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps fasten the wheels to the hoops.

Fat Bike Wheel Cradles

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Sport Rider SE, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (sold separately).

Heavy-Duty Cargo Basket

Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Cargo Basket Dimensions

The cargo basket measures 52" long x 15-1/2" wide x 6" tall, giving you plenty of space to haul camping gear or supplies. The raised side rails offer multiple tie-down points, and the included cargo net stretches over your gear to secure it in place.

cargo basket

The carrier can also function as a stand-alone cargo basket. Simply remove the bike rack and insert the basket into your vehicle's 2" hitch, using the included adapter. The cargo basket can carry up to 220 lbs of gear when used as a stand-alone.

Folding, Tilting Design

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pin, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Tool-Free Installation with Anti-Rattle System

The rack installs in your hitch without the need for tools. Simply slide the shank into your receiver until the welded stop plate contacts the hitch. The stop plate saves you from getting on your hands and knees to align the pin holes while inserting the hitch pin. Once the pin is in place, attach the lock pod. Lastly, use the integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the shank to tighten the rack inside your hitch receiver and prevent it from rattling. A second lever secures the two-bike extension to the base of the rack.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

The Sport Rider comes with locks for both the rack and your bikes to deter theft. The lock cores in the frame hooks hold the bike down on the rack and prevent them from moving. Also, the lock pod attaches to the hitch pin to secure the rack to your vehicle. These locks are conveniently keyed alike. For extra protection, the 8' long security cable wraps through the bike frames, connects to the hitch pin, and is secured to the pin by the hitch lock. The extension cable can be added to the 8' cable to help secure 4 bikes to the rack.

Add-On Adapters

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport 1 recumbent delta trike or 1 recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider SE, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately). Or if you want to transport 1 standard bike and either 1 recumbent delta trike, 1 recumbent tadpole-style trike, or 1 adult trike, then you can use the HRTRK-ADP-2 adapter (sold separately).

Note: The trike adapters can only be used with the Sport Rider SE's two-bike base unit.

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack with Cargo Carrier Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE platform-style four-bike rack with cargo carrier, part number HR1400Z-85. This Hollywood Racks kit can be used in four different configurations: a two-bike rack, a four-bike rack, a two-bike rack and cargo carrier, or just a cargo carrier. All of these configurations are quick and easy to do. This is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast, whether you're riding or traveling. The two-bike setup is perfect for you and one other person, whether you're hittin' the road or the trails. The four-bike setup is exactly the same; it just allows us to carry two additional bikes. It's great for a family or a group of friends.

It's gonna carry a wide variety of bikes. We've got a mountain bike, a road bike, a bike with an alternative frame style, and a children's bike. The two-bike setup with the cargo carrier is perfect for riders that need just a little bit more space. It's gonna be great for camping equipment or wet, muddy, and soiled gear, things we just wanna keep out of our vehicle. Or, if you're traveling or going on long trips, you just wanna take two bikes and you need more room for luggage. It's also gonna free up space inside your vehicle for passengers and pets. The cargo net is included with this carrier.

It's gonna help contain our cargo, that way we don't have to pick up any straps. Now, this bike rack has a lot of the same features as a premium bike rack. It does tilt away so we can access that rear hatch. The nice thing about this setup is, though, not only can we do it with two bikes loaded, but we can also do it with our cargo carrier fully loaded. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you do this, because it can be heavy. We'll have our buddy come in and pick up on the back of the rack to take off some of that weight.

We'll remove that snapper pin, pull out on the quick release pin, and then he can lower it down until it rests. And as promised, we've got more than enough room to get into our rear hatch for our gear. Now you can also tilt it away with the four-bike setup as well. Both the two and the four-bike rack hold our bikes by their frames. How it works is, the frame hook puts down pressure on our bike's top tube into the front and rear cradles. And then a strap holds our wheels in place.

I've gone ahead and removed the bikes and taken out the gear so we can take a closer look.As you can see, the cargo carrier itself is a basket style. It has a tubular design. The raised side rails are gonna give us plenty of tie-down points to secure our cargo. The open floor design is gonna be easy to clean; dirt and debris is just gonna fall right through. I do recommend putting larger items on this cargo carrier. Smaller items could easily fall out. It's inside dimensions are 52-1/2 inches long, 15-9/16 of an inch wide, and it's 5 inches deep. Now this carrier has a weight capacity of 90 pounds when attached to the two-bike rack. When it's attached by itself, it has a weight capacity of 220 pounds. So just take note of that. Now let's focus on the bike rack. And again, the two-bike has all of the same features as the two-bike expansion, which is the four-bike rack. The frame hooks themselves are rubber coated so they don't harm or scratch or cause any abrasions to our bike's top tube. They also are adjustable along the center mast. That way, they'll work with bikes of different sizes. They're also lockable. That way, no one can remove our bikes. Here at the bottom, the cradles are adjustable along the platform. This is so it can work with bikes with different sized wheel bases. Once we've got 'em in place, simply tighten it up with the large knob. The cradles themselves will support a tire up to three inches in width. Now if you have a fat bike, you could pick up the fat bike adapter kit with part number HRSPRWH-F-HD. And that'll allow you to hold a fat tire up to five inches wide. Here at the shank, we have a rise of seven inches. Not only is this gonna give us better ground clearance here at the back for our bike rack and its accessories, but it's also gonna give us a higher loading height. That way, it's not so strenuous on our backs. Now we'll give you some clearance dimensions. This is gonna give you an idea of how it's going to fit your vehicle. The distance from the face of the hitch to the closest part of the rack when folded up is about 5 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the farthest part of the rack when folded up is about 16-1/4 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the closest part of the rack when folded down is about 7-1/2 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the farthest part of the rack when folded down is about 27-1/2 inches. When the bike rack is not in use, the center mast folds down. What we do is we pull out the pin, lower it down, and then reinsert the pin so it stays in place. I'd like to point out that the pin itself doesn't use any clips to hold it in place. It actually features a little tab that when lined up with the notch on the hole, it goes all the way through, and then when it's turned you cannot pull it out.Now with that center mast folded down, it can be stowed like this. So whether you're hittin' the trails or you're driving around town, it's fine. With it in that position though, I'd also like to point out that you can get into that rear hatch. That way you can remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us, just like before. If you'd like just a little bit more clearance here at the back, no problem. It folds up against our vehicle for compact storage. And this can be done with the two-bike expansion or the cargo carrier attached. All of the accessories here are made out of a sturdy steel construction with the Hollywood Racks standard black powder coat finish. So they're gonna be very durable and they're gonna hold up to the elements and last a long time. They also feature a limited lifetime warranty. Now we'll show you how to get everything installed. Now when installing this, you'll need to be sure you have a two-inch by two-inch receiver. That's what we've got here; let's go ahead and get started. How it works is, the shank's gonna slide into the receiver tube all the way up until it hits this welded-on tab. Here on the inside, we have our adjustable loop. Once it's lined up within the receiver tube, the included pin will go through the elongated opening here. The lock with go on the other side, and then we can start tightening up that anti-rattle device. And that's gonna reduce all the play and rattle from inside our receiver tube and our bike rack. Let's go ahead and check it out.Slide it all the way in, take our included pin, slip on our lock. Then as you can see, without it being tightened up, we've got a lot of play. So we'll tighten up that lever, get it nice and secure, and you'll wanna be sure that it's horizontal like this and it's not hanging down. That's gonna reduce our ground clearance, and we don't want it to get damaged. So we'll make sure it's horizontal, give it a good shake. And as you can see, I'm shaking the entire vehicle. We're good to go.When we're ready to load up our two bikes, we'll need to lower it down to the platform position. So we pull out that pin, lower it down until it snaps into place. Now if we're using any of the other accessories like the two-bike expansion or the cargo carrier, I like to load up my two bikes first. That way I'm not stretching over those accessories. So I'll make sure my center mast is up, my straps are undone, and my hooks are up and out of the way. Now Hollywood Racks recommends loading up the heaviest bike first. For us, it's gonna be my mountain bike. Now you can go up and over, or you can go around the side, whichever's easiest. I like to go up and over and rest it in place. Then we can bring down that hook. Once it makes contact, give it a good push, and we're ready to do our wheel straps. Bring it up, over our wheel, through the loop, and back through itself. With one bike secure, our second bike loads up the same way. Let's go ahead and get that done. For your accessory, if you'd like to carry two more bikes, all you do is go ahead and remove that rear reflector, slide the two-bike expansion into the receiver here, lining up those pinholes. We'll take the attached pin and clip, slide that through, put our clip in place. And then at the back here, we've got that same lever to help us reduce that play and that rattle.Get it nice and secure. And again, it's a good idea to make sure that it's horizontal. That way it's not gonna interfere with anything. From here, just add two more bikes like before. Now let's show you how to attach the cargo carrier. It slides in the same way as our two-bike expansion. Be sure to slide it all the way in. Then we'll take our included snapper pin, put that through the pinhole. And then, at the very back, we tighten up that same lever. Now we're ready to load up some cargo. When using the cargo carrier by itself, you'll need to use the included sleeve. It simply slides over the shank like so. We'll take the included pin, put it in place, and then we'll wanna tighten up that lever at the rear. Again, it's gonna help reduce that play within the two shanks here. Get it nice and secure, then we're ready to put it into our vehicle. And we can also use the included pin and lock. That way, no one can remove the carrier from our vehicle. And that's gonna complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE platform-style four-bike rack with cargo carrier, part number HR1400Z-85.

Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack w/ Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - HR1400Z-85

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (182 Customer Reviews)

This versatile bike rack and cargo carrier combo lets you carry 2 bikes and your gear in the 52-1/2" x 15-9/16" basket or 4 bikes without the basket. Platform-style rack tilts for rear cargo area access and folds up for storage.

Wanted to provide some feed back after using my 4 bike hollywood rack/cargo carrier for awhile. Bike rack is great. I have been able to haul kids bikes along with ours. No criticism other than I would use something other than hook loop system for tires, but it works. I have only recently tried to use the cargo carrier. A little disappointed. The way it is shaped really limits what I can put on it. Why do they not make them a standard rectangle? I can't fit a cooler, tote, or even my equipment bag because of the narrow 12 inch center section. I can't find a tote that will even fit in the 15"x17" sides. Cargo carrier is currently useless. If I could do it again I would have only bought the 4 bike rack. I know it will not make any difference but I like to express myself at times. Have a great day and put in a good word to the Hollywood engineers on their next cargo design. :) 477405

Chris, thank you for your review and business. The reason there is a narrow section in the cargo carrier/bike rack is to allow for clearance and loading of the bikes.
-- Laura E - 02/20/2018

Do you mean the picture where the pedal of the bike is clearing the top of the cutout? As in the pedal would only hit it if it were in the down position? I would rather have the space and back the pedal above it myself. I am still going to vote that it is unnecessary.

Great product. After a year use it's holding great. We have done several long travel, one across the country, and had no issues with it! 711122

Unbelievable the way it tightens down to hitch. Bike racks are both great quality. I’d suggest this product to anyone that needs to haul bikes especially those with 2 inch hitch and rv 483821

- HR1400Z-85

Well I had to think about this one before I bought it because of the price but it looked to be the only one that would work for us (my bike has a long wheelbase). And the folks ar etrailer have never sent anything that was not quality. I was not disappointed. The product description tells you all about the bike rack and I can tell that it is heavy duty and VERY well made. If you only occasionally haul lightweight bikes around you may want to consider something less expensive but if you do serious bike hauling over rough roads this rack is well worth the money. The rack folds up out of the way in seconds and folds down to give access to the back hatch on an SUV. It took about forty five minutes to put together but if you lay all the parts out and have the right tools at hand like you’re supposed to it should take less than twenty. Having put it together once I think I could do it in less than ten minutes. You will need a 3/4” and a 17mm wrench and a philips screw driver. In short, this is an extremely well made, quality bike rack that is well worth the money. As always, I am happy with the folks at etrailer. 462593

Awesome rack system. I can hold all 4 bikes (an Electra cruiser, two commuter bikes and a 29er MTB bike) and it does so quietly, stably, and securely. It clears my driveway apon both out and in without a scrape. 431714

Still love the hitch and racks. They have served me well. And will be put to a further test soon as I head out for some trails of a bit further distance.

I haven't used this product but easy to put together and it's exactly what I order. It was exactly what I needed. 347018

- HR1400Z-85

Bought this and a Hollywood 4 bike rack. The carrier and rack work very well together. Very sturdy and doesn't rattle. Puts the rear end out there but provides awesome storage and carrying ability. Could buy from several sites on the web. CarrieAnne is the main reason I bought from etrailer. Excellent product knowledge awesome attitude and she did exactly what she said she would do and it arrived when she promised. I assumed Amazon Prime was always best but a very competitive price and personal attention as well as the personal assurance of it was what I needed was the clincher. 289998

- HR1400Z-85

This is honestly the best bang for your buck! The rack is really solid, the anti-rattle system really works and the fat bike option is a car saver! The bike rack was very easy to put together. The cargo carrier fought back a bit when putting it together but it is really sturdy. We purchased this primarily for out fat bikes and to have extra space outside our Crosstrek. Cant wait to take the bikes out later, get them all dirty and NOT have to put the muddy front tires in the car! 210230

Does everything I wanted in a new bike rack: folds, tilts, holds bikes upright and converts from 4 to 2 bikes. Also has locks incorporated into frame with additional locking heavy duty cable. 614994

Great! Best rack Ive ever had. Does everything I want it to do and more.

Very sturdy bike rack. Just takes sometime to get every bike set-up on the rack. Could be a little more user friendly. But for the price it will be a great rack for our family of 4. 565169

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I debated between the HR1400 and Pro Series Q Slot and do not regret the HR1400. First, the package arrived one day early, but the shipping box was badly damaged. However, everything inside was packaged for the most part separately and nothing was damaged. So immediately put the rack together on my 1998 Dodge Pickup. The rack assembly was very quick and easy. I read a lot of reviews indicating the instructions are poor. They are not the best but honestly the rack was very easy to put together. Be sure to build the rack off of your hitch. Once built I was impressed!! Very sturdy and not a bad looking rack. I threw four mountain bikes right away onto the rack and they fit great. It did take me about 25 minutes to get the bikes on as you will find that you'll need to figure the best order for them to go on considering frame size etc.. I think if I were to do it again I would be able to do it in half the time. I took the bikes off the rack in about 5 minutes or less. I have not yet taking the bikes out as I just recieved the bike rack yesterday afternoon but was excited to build the rack and load the rack. But I can tell you that I see no problem with how it will travel down the road as this thing is solid! I did grab the rack while loaded with bikes and shook the hell out of it to see of the bikes would move. There was no wiggle or indication the rack or bikes were not secure. I choose the HR1400 because I need a rack that will fold up and also tilt. I also felt that the reviews were best on multiple websites not just etrailer. I also noticed that etrailer had by far the best customer service reviews which was important in case I had problems with the rack. You can not go wrong with the HR1400! You can not go wrong purchasing any equipement from etrailer.com as they did replied to a email very quickly amd sent out early. Believe me...this is an excellent bike rack. Safe riding! 499176

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

A year into its use and as good as new. Super sturdy and the bikes really feel secure. I've used it with 1, 2, 3 and 4 bikes and adapting configs is pretty easy. Fit really nice on my Pilot (shown mounted but folded in the pic). Oh, great support too when I first assembled it. I called up with a quick question and spoke immediately to a live knowleadgeble person. 266198

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I have been looking for a platform bike rack that can hold 4 bikes, and I found etrailer the best place to search. Beside the wide selection, they have great videos, pictures, and Q/A sessions where a lot of information can be found. I chose the Hollywood HR1400 over the Swagman XTC-4 mainly due to its capability to tilt away from the car, and that the XTC would not properly close to the upright position on my 2013 Odyssey. The service from etrailer was excellent. I placed the order on Wednesday, and that very afternoon Bridget called me to tell me that the order was received, but a small problem is that they did not have the product on stock. Since I was going down to Florida for vacation, it was important to get the product within a certain timeframe (wanted to ship the product to FL instead of Canada, where I live). When I told Bridget my dilemma, she was very helpful, and ended up shipping the unit from a different warehouse in MO, and it only cost me $14 in shipping instead of free shipping. But, I got the product the following Monday! Great service! I just got home last night, and hardly could wait to assemble the rack today. The assembly was easy, it took about 30-35 minutes. The instructions were helping, but the product is self explanatory too. I loaded the bikes, and took a short ride. The rack is solid, which is what I thought the first time I assembled it. The bikes were not rattling at all. It is easy to fold it up and down. It actually is close to the car in the upright position, but it clears the bumper and the tailgate as you can see it on the pictures. I was a bit worried about ground clearance, since the Odyssey's hitch is kind of low, but there is no problem there either, as the rack has quite a bit of elevation from the main shank. Below some measurements for those who have the same car, and thinking of buying this rack (so far I did not find this information on the website): Ground clearance at main shank: 9" Ground clearance at the end of 4 bike unit: 18" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when upright: 2" Distance between tailgate and closest part of rack when upright: 3" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when folded down: 8" All in all, I highly recommend etrailer for your towing needs, they are a reputable and reliable company, I just wish we would have more like them on the web. I will definitely come back if I am in need of similar products, and will recommend to my friends. Great job Etrailer Team! 192302

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

Nice, solid bike rack. Props to e-trailer for the free shipping as this thing was heavy. The bike rack was fairly easy to assemble. the only issue I had was that one of the stop screws that prevent the wheel platforms from sliding off wouldn't go in all the way. Not sure if the hole wasn't drilled properly or if I cross-threaded the screw, but I could only screw it in halfway. It's secure (and no one will ever notice), it was just a minor frustration when putting the rack together. The bikes are extremely stable on the rack and the rack is extremely stable when properly attached to the vehicle. They aren't budging. It took a few tries to figure out the proper configuration for all 4 bike, but once I figured out that puzzle, loading and unloading is a snap. The 3rd bike is a bit tricky to get on. I'm happy with this purchase. It was more than i wanted to spend on a bike rack, but I'm glad I went with the higher quality. 145072

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I was nervous buying a rack costing half as much as a premium brand. I was afraid I was buying something flimsy or cheaply built. Not the case. I took four bikes 1000 miles and it worked perfectly. It’s heeeeaaavyyy.... once you get it in the hitch, though, that’s a good thing. The bikes were secure, and it has a tightening system to hold it firmly in the hitch: there was very little wobble. I’ve never used the higher prices racks like the Kuat, so I can’t compare them. What I can say is that this rack is solid. If you can get over NOT buying the name brand, like Thule, Kuat, etc, you can save a lot of money and feel confident your bikes are safe. 681713

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I've only just received my HR1400 Hollywood rack, assembled it, installed in on my car, and loaded it with 4 of our bikes, but I'm very impressed so far. It's exactly what I was hoping for. It is heavy, but it's extremely sturdy. I found it very easy to mount on my car and remove when I do so taking advantage of the fact it breaks into 2 pieces (which it does very easily). I'm looking forward to using it on our next outing. By the way, etrailer.com rocks! You had the best price on this rack and it was sitting on my doorstep 2 days after ordering (ordered Wed afternoon and delivered Friday). In addition, I had no issues with the packaging or the contents being damaged as a few others have mentioned in reviews. 122412

Ive owned this rack for a year now and I still love it. I would definitely buy it again if I ever had the need. Clearances are fine on my vehicle. I have no issue with the Velcro-like straps. The only issue I have is that I cant open the back of my car when bikes are loaded. But honestly, I dont find that to be a huge deal.

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

Pure awesomeness! But I’ll remind you now, lest you forget in your enthusiasm: the pin’s not stuck, you secured it down with that crank as one of the first steps. No hammer needed. Just sayin). I can’t wait for the next trip. No more fighting forever to get the handlebars untangled while I try to fit all the bikes on. Which I contend is IMPOSSIBLE on those stupid hanging rack types. No more wheels flopping in the breeze potentially scratching my car. No more removing the wheels because the bike shop sold me a carrier that was too low for my minivan. No more bikes bouncing up and down while I drive. No more scraping the exit curbs. AND I still have a decent view out of the back up camera/screen!! I was able to open the hatch with the bikes tilted. You have to hold the bike closest back a little. I let it do it by itself and the auto open forced it way through instead of stopping and it did scratch the car. But closing it, I stayed at the handle bars and gently pushed and it cleared fine. And it locks to the car. No more fear my rack will get stolen. And comes with another lock for the bikes. Sure a bottle opener would be a cool feature. I’ll rubberbad one on. It’s SO worth the money! Stop comparing and put it in the cart. By the way, the pics only show it set up with two racks. I love that I can customize it to the number of us going out for the day. 503456

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I have yet to use this rack, but I did want to offer some preliminary thoughts. First, etrailer shipped it quickly. The packaging was good with no damage to the rack despite some holes in the boxes. Etrailer also honored their price guarantee. The instructions (see link below or use http://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=HR1400 ) are not very good. The diagrams could have shown a better “exploded” view and detailed the parts better. The parts themselves are NOT labeled (well some have “L” or “S”, but you can see there are no parts S or L). Step 1.(3.) has you insert pin H6 and install clip R (a cotter pin) through the pin. Nope! Pins H6 and H5 are attached receiver tube H and neither uses a cotter pin - they both have attached clips. The cotter pin "R" is only used in Step 4. There stop screws (Figure 2c) but the instructions don’t tell you to use the included washers, washers also not detailed in the parts list. The multiple “L” pins have index guides that need to be aligned with the index holes on order to remove and insert them. So if you can’t get that “L” pin out, it needs to be rotated. There are other examples, but you get the idea. I ended up with and extra washer (a heavy washer) and a ring but I think everything is put together correctly. BE CAREFUL! If you get careless placing a bike between the vertical post and the car, and the bike slips, the bike’s handlebars could break the back glass on an SUV type vehicle. I learned this from experience, but fortunately I didn’t break the glass. The instruction say to position the bike’s frame so the hook rests on the lowest point of the top tube. This makes sense but forced me to rearrange the wheel holders because our bikes are so different and I wanted each bike set up in a certain slot. Other than that, everything feels solid and I look forward to using this for years to come. 297586

Ordered it on Monday and it was here on Wednesday! I was able to put the 4 bike rake together by myself in about an hour. Easy to assemble and all the parts were included. Make well and is very sturdy. The back two bike section comes off every easily when not needed. The tilt down feature is easy to use and I was able to open the hatch door on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee 657156

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

I just used this on my 2012 Honda Pilot for a road trip over 700 miles. I hauled my 29er along with my kids bikes (a 20" & a 24"). It works great for hauling different sizes of bikes together. It was rock solid and the bikes were absolutely stable and secure. It takes a few minutes to figure out the best configuration for your specific bikes when you first set it up but once you have a system its super quick and easy. This rack is heavy and solid and should last forever (except for maybe the velcro straps which do seem sufficient for now and would be easy to replace if needed). Even though it is heavy I am still able to carry it around and install/remove it by myself (5'4-130 lb woman). I love that the locks were included making this a great value. I also love that its two separate parts so I can use it as a 2 bike carrier or a 4 bike carrier when needed. Many times I am only hauling one bike and dont need a ginormous 4 bike carrier. Etrailers shipping was super fast!! The only thing I can criticize is the terrible instructions but if you look at the pictures on the box you can figure it out fairly quickly, it really wasnt difficult. Overall, I am very, very happy with this bike rack! 163356

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

My husband gets frustrated very easily so imagine my surprise when this was installed with no complaints. It's very user friendly and I'm able to access the trunk without a problem. We have a Subaru outback. The bikes are secure and the rack easily adjusts to different size bikes. I love that you can adjust the rack to be smaller to carry 2 bikes. Everything about this rack is quality and easy to use. 216417

Hey Nicole, any issues with the rack clearance with a bike mounted touching the rear bumper? I have a 15 Outback. Thanks
-- comment by: Tony F - 08/08/2015

Tony,We dont have any problems. There is a bit of space from the back bumper to the beginning of the rack. My initial thought was, why do they make the rack extend out so far? Then I realized it was necessary so you can fit between the car and rack. Once its tilted we have enough clearance to open the hatch. We have a 2011 outback

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

The quality of the trailer hitch and assembly is excellent. Very happy with the quality and the purchase price. Given I was installing on a 2004 Honda Odyssey in 2015, I did have difficulty with the pre-drilled holes and threads on the frame of the vehicle. I made several attempted to clean the threads but was unsuccessful. I eventually took the hitch assembly to a local installer and they put it on for $[...]. The instructions provided for self installation were very clear and straight forward. I use my hitch assembly to haul bikes around to various triathlons. I purchased the bike carrier separately and it slides right into the hitch opening and locks on. 246026

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE in Hitch Bike Racks

Great communication from seller. Fast shipping, particularly since it's free. Item arrived and was in good shape. Heavy and awkward to carry so be careful how far you have to lift it. Don't ask your wife to pick it up. Not very difficult to put together, although slowed down by cumbersome instructions with poor pictures and it took time to identify each part as the correct one. Good quality unit, although some packing styrofoam was glued to bars leaving several stretches of white, sticky goo on the upwards facing bars where the tire holders slide. Makes adjusting the tire holders more difficult. Overall a good product and handles the 4 bikes well. Will see over time how it holds up to consistent use. 105153

I bought a truck and went to a tailgate pad. I sold the rack. It worked well. Thanks

  • How Much Does the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack with Cargo Carrier Weigh
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack w/ Cargo Carrier part # HR1400Z-85 is composed of three main components, the cargo carrier which weighs around 50 lbs and the two bike carrier which weighs around 40 lbs. That should then leave you with enough capacity left for the trailer and two bikes but it would be close. However, we don't really have any other options like this.

  • Installing Bike Rack On Rear of Cargo Carrier
Hollywood Racks offers a bike and cargo carrier, part # HR1400Z-85 that is a combined bike rack/cargo carrier. The bike rack is designed to be very strong, so it can support the cargo tray, and the cargo tray has a limited capacity of 90 lbs when used along with the bike rack. If you were to mount a bike rack onto the rear of a cargo carrier, it would place too much weight too far rearward of the trailer hitch.
