SportRider SE Hitch Bike Rack

Give your bikes the royal treatment by transporting them on the Sport Rider Special Edition platform-style hitch bike rack. This feature-packed rack allows you to carry up to four bicycles on the rear of your vehicle.

1400 SE 2-Piece

The Sport Rider SE consists of a two-bike base unit and a removable two-bike extension unit, allowing you to use the carrier as either a two- or four-bike rack. The two pieces make the rack easier to handle and install because you can slide the base into your hitch and secure it before adding the extension.

Anti-Wobble Handle

1400 SE Anti-Wobbles

An integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the base unit tightens the bike-rack shank to your hitch receiver to prevent the rack from rattling around inside the receiver. You don't need to pull out a wrench every time you install the rack on your hitch - just turn the easy-to-access handle to keep the rack from rattling. A second lever secures the two-bike extension to the base of the rack.

Precision-Slide Clamping System

1400 SE Hooks

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Sport Rider SE uses cushioned hooks to stabilize your bikes. The precision-slide clamping system allows the hooks to slide up and down the rack's upright masts. Just squeeze together the push-to-release levers on one of the hooks, slide the hook to the desired position, and release the levers. The hook secures in place and cannot move until the levers are depressed again. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning that each two-bike unit can hold two bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

1400 SE Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60 inches, and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

Fat Bike Wheel Cradles

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Sport Rider SE, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (HRSPRWH-F - sold separately).

Folding, Tilting Design

Sport Rider SE Tilting Spring Pin

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pin, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

Sport Rider SE Folding Spring Pin

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Security System

1400 SE Hitch and Cable Locks

The Sport Rider SE includes a hitch lock that secures the bike carrier to your vehicle's 2-inch receiver. The rack also comes with an 8-foot-long, vinyl-coated, braided steel cable lock that deters theft of your bikes.

1400 SE Hitch and Cable Locks

Both the cable lock and the hitch lock have push-to-lock bodies and are conveniently keyed alike. Keyhole covers on the locks keep out dirt and moisture.

Add-On Adapters

If you want to carry both 2 bikes and extra gear, an add-on cargo basket (HR1485 - sold separately) is available.

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16-inch or 18-inch wheels, wheel hoop adapters (HRSW-ADP-2 - sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider SE, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately). Or if you want to transport one standard bike and either one recumbent delta trike, one recumbent tadpole-style trike, or one adult trike, then you can use the HRTRK-ADP-2 adapter (sold separately).

Note: The trike adapters can only be used with the Sport Rider SE's two-bike base unit.

Lets be honest, there are better looking racks. But I work at etrailer.com and can use pretty much any bike rack in the world. When it came time to go on an adventure race I chose this rack to get my teams bikes there. When we got home one of my team mates bought one because he was so impressed. When it came time to go on a 12 hour road trip with my family I chose the Hollywood. It is a star. Not a Marilyn Monroe, more of a Sylvester Stallone. The thing is solid and it works really well. It is heavy, but any 4 bike rack is going to be on the heavy side. The option to remove the 2 bike extension is nice because it makes the rack easier to handle when you only need 2 bikes. The antirattle knob snugs the rack up in the hitch super tight. Having the cable lock and hitch lock included and keyed the same makes it easy to lock the bikes up when you stop for dinner. The folding feature uses pins and clips instead of the switches found on some other racks. The pins and holes were a bit tough to get aligned at first. I had to ask my wife to lift up on the end of the rack just a hair to get the pin started. She got chain grease on her and I quickly learned that asking for her help was not a good solution to my pin alignment problem. So I grabbed my drill and a bit that was sized the same as the pin hole and cleaned out the holes. About one minute later the pin was sliding in and out perfectly and my wife will never get greasy again. In a nutshell this rack is not the lightest, not the easiest and not the prettiest, but I love it. It is easy enough to use that it is not a hassle, it locks to keep the bikes safe, is a great price for the features and it is solid, very solid. You can see in the pictures that I have used this rack extensively and it still is working great. 102588

Hi, my question is whether you have any frame damage on your biks after your long trips. Vs. going with the t2 or hold up style.

Nate, I have used the rack on a few long trips, to Colorado, Wisconsin and to our adventure race. So far there has not been any frame damage. The hook that comes down on the frame has a pretty thick pad. One of the wheel clamp racks would prevent the possibility of frame damage, but I think it will be a long time before the pad on the Hollywood wears out and it is an issue.

Are there any issues with putting carbon fiber frames on this rack?

I have been looking for a platform bike rack that can hold 4 bikes, and I found etrailer the best place to search. Beside the wide selection, they have great videos, pictures, and Q/A sessions where a lot of information can be found. I chose the Hollywood HR1400 over the Swagman XTC-4 mainly due to its capability to tilt away from the car, and that the XTC would not properly close to the upright position on my 2013 Odyssey. The service from etrailer was excellent. I placed the order on Wednesday, and that very afternoon Bridget called me to tell me that the order was received, but a small problem is that they did not have the product on stock. Since I was going down to Florida for vacation, it was important to get the product within a certain timeframe (wanted to ship the product to FL instead of Canada, where I live). When I told Bridget my dilemma, she was very helpful, and ended up shipping the unit from a different warehouse in MO, and it only cost me $14 in shipping instead of free shipping. But, I got the product the following Monday! Great service! I just got home last night, and hardly could wait to assemble the rack today. The assembly was easy, it took about 30-35 minutes. The instructions were helping, but the product is self explanatory too. I loaded the bikes, and took a short ride. The rack is solid, which is what I thought the first time I assembled it. The bikes were not rattling at all. It is easy to fold it up and down. It actually is close to the car in the upright position, but it clears the bumper and the tailgate as you can see it on the pictures. I was a bit worried about ground clearance, since the Odyssey's hitch is kind of low, but there is no problem there either, as the rack has quite a bit of elevation from the main shank. Below some measurements for those who have the same car, and thinking of buying this rack (so far I did not find this information on the website): Ground clearance at main shank: 9" Ground clearance at the end of 4 bike unit: 18" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when upright: 2" Distance between tailgate and closest part of rack when upright: 3" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when folded down: 8" All in all, I highly recommend etrailer for your towing needs, they are a reputable and reliable company, I just wish we would have more like them on the web. I will definitely come back if I am in need of similar products, and will recommend to my friends. Great job Etrailer Team! 192302

Pure awesomeness! But I’ll remind you now, lest you forget in your enthusiasm: the pin’s not stuck, you secured it down with that crank as one of the first steps. No hammer needed. Just sayin). I can’t wait for the next trip. No more fighting forever to get the handlebars untangled while I try to fit all the bikes on. Which I contend is IMPOSSIBLE on those stupid hanging rack types. No more wheels flopping in the breeze potentially scratching my car. No more removing the wheels because the bike shop sold me a carrier that was too low for my minivan. No more bikes bouncing up and down while I drive. No more scraping the exit curbs. AND I still have a decent view out of the back up camera/screen!! I was able to open the hatch with the bikes tilted. You have to hold the bike closest back a little. I let it do it by itself and the auto open forced it way through instead of stopping and it did scratch the car. But closing it, I stayed at the handle bars and gently pushed and it cleared fine. And it locks to the car. No more fear my rack will get stolen. And comes with another lock for the bikes. Sure a bottle opener would be a cool feature. I’ll rubberbad one on. It’s SO worth the money! Stop comparing and put it in the cart. By the way, the pics only show it set up with two racks. I love that I can customize it to the number of us going out for the day. 503456

I really wanted to like this bike rack, but it presented too many issues to give it more than a 3 star review. The rack was packaged well enough(although one of the upright posts was scratched up somehow) and I thought the instructions were pretty darn easy to follow...not sure about some of these reviews listing assembly issues, there's really not that much to the assembly: slide some parts together, secure with nuts and bolts, and everything else slides on with clamps and cotter pins. It is HEAVY. When fully assembled for 4 bikes, this thing is not easy to move around. That being said, I guess heavy means strong. The first issue I ran into was with the 2 bike adapter. I could not get rid of the wobble between the main carrier and the 2 bike adapter. It says not to crank too hard, and I didn't want to strip it. But I cranked it pretty good and still there was play. Wobble between car and main carrier was fine...nice and tight. Getting the bikes on was a major headache. First, it is a very tight fit between bikes. Pedals hitting each other, hitting the upright posts, pedals getting caught in other bikes spokes, trying to fit bikes under raised clamps, etc. Biggest problem I encountered was with my kids bikes. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I did not see any "minimum requirements" for bike/wheel size, only maximum. I have 2 kids bikes with 20" wheels, and they simply did not fit correctly. Not only did the clamps not come down far enough to secure the bikes, but the detailers on both bikes were coming into contact with the wheel holders. I ended up using mini bungee cords to secure up the detailers and I clamped down onto the bike seats instead of the horizontal post. I reached out to eTrailer seeing what they had to say, and they recommended purchasing several additional parts in order to rectify the issues...$90 worth of parts! No thanks. Unfortunately, I will have to make do...returning is not feasable with a 20% restocking fee. One more note...tilting the rack up against the back of your vehicle is nearly impossible with 1 person. The pin is up close to the vehicle, and you can't reach it from the back of the rack where you'd lift from. Kudos to eTrailer service(Bryan) for trying to assist. Very prompt and communicative. 500478

Don, thank you for your review. If your kids bike wheels are not fitting in the wheel holders, I would suggest getting the Hollywood wheel hoop adapter part # HRSW-ADP-2
Kids Bike Wheel Hoop Adapters for Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Rack - Qty 2
$31.93
. With bikes with alternative frames especially childrens bikes, the ratcheting arms do not have a top cross tube to go over. You will need an adapter bar such as part # HRBA-PRO
Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's and Alternative Frame Bikes
$31.46
to attach to the frame and give the ratcheting arm on the bike rack a contact point. This Hollywood rack part # HR1400 is 74 pounds as a 4 bike carrier. The lightest 4 bike platform rack we carry is the Saris freedom part # SA4414B
Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting
$539.99
. The freedom is 53 pounds.

I debated between the HR1400 and Pro Series Q Slot and do not regret the HR1400. First, the package arrived one day early, but the shipping box was badly damaged. However, everything inside was packaged for the most part separately and nothing was damaged. So immediately put the rack together on my 1998 Dodge Pickup. The rack assembly was very quick and easy. I read a lot of reviews indicating the instructions are poor. They are not the best but honestly the rack was very easy to put together. Be sure to build the rack off of your hitch. Once built I was impressed!! Very sturdy and not a bad looking rack. I threw four mountain bikes right away onto the rack and they fit great. It did take me about 25 minutes to get the bikes on as you will find that you'll need to figure the best order for them to go on considering frame size etc.. I think if I were to do it again I would be able to do it in half the time. I took the bikes off the rack in about 5 minutes or less. I have not yet taking the bikes out as I just recieved the bike rack yesterday afternoon but was excited to build the rack and load the rack. But I can tell you that I see no problem with how it will travel down the road as this thing is solid! I did grab the rack while loaded with bikes and shook the hell out of it to see of the bikes would move. There was no wiggle or indication the rack or bikes were not secure. I choose the HR1400 because I need a rack that will fold up and also tilt. I also felt that the reviews were best on multiple websites not just etrailer. I also noticed that etrailer had by far the best customer service reviews which was important in case I had problems with the rack. You can not go wrong with the HR1400! You can not go wrong purchasing any equipement from etrailer.com as they did replied to a email very quickly amd sent out early. Believe me...this is an excellent bike rack. Safe riding! 499176

I have yet to use this rack, but I did want to offer some preliminary thoughts. First, etrailer shipped it quickly. The packaging was good with no damage to the rack despite some holes in the boxes. Etrailer also honored their price guarantee. The instructions (see link below or use http://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=HR1400 ) are not very good. The diagrams could have shown a better “exploded” view and detailed the parts better. The parts themselves are NOT labeled (well some have “L” or “S”, but you can see there are no parts S or L). Step 1.(3.) has you insert pin H6 and install clip R (a cotter pin) through the pin. Nope! Pins H6 and H5 are attached receiver tube H and neither uses a cotter pin - they both have attached clips. The cotter pin "R" is only used in Step 4. There stop screws (Figure 2c) but the instructions don’t tell you to use the included washers, washers also not detailed in the parts list. The multiple “L” pins have index guides that need to be aligned with the index holes on order to remove and insert them. So if you can’t get that “L” pin out, it needs to be rotated. There are other examples, but you get the idea. I ended up with and extra washer (a heavy washer) and a ring but I think everything is put together correctly. BE CAREFUL! If you get careless placing a bike between the vertical post and the car, and the bike slips, the bike’s handlebars could break the back glass on an SUV type vehicle. I learned this from experience, but fortunately I didn’t break the glass. The instruction say to position the bike’s frame so the hook rests on the lowest point of the top tube. This makes sense but forced me to rearrange the wheel holders because our bikes are so different and I wanted each bike set up in a certain slot. Other than that, everything feels solid and I look forward to using this for years to come. 297586

I was looking for a 4 bike hitch mounted rack of this style. My main goal was to have it fit my 05 Jeep Wrangler with 31 x 10.5 tires. I wanted to make sure the rack would rest in the folded up positon when not in use. I also wanted the flexibility to have only a 2 bike mount for when I ride solo. I emailed etrailer and they were quick with a response and included a video as well. I placed the order a week ago Saturday, and my rack was delivered ahead of schedule. I was blown away by the service I received from etrailer, and am very pleased with the rack. I found it easy to install and it totally does what I need it to do. Thank you etrailer. Keep up the great job. 104595

I love it. It is a breeze to put it on and take it off. When it is on, I feel secure knowing that everything is locked to my vehicle. The rack itself when not in use tilts up and fits perfectly against the spare tire on my Jeep.

I just used this on my 2012 Honda Pilot for a road trip over 700 miles. I hauled my 29er along with my kids bikes (a 20" & a 24"). It works great for hauling different sizes of bikes together. It was rock solid and the bikes were absolutely stable and secure. It takes a few minutes to figure out the best configuration for your specific bikes when you first set it up but once you have a system its super quick and easy. This rack is heavy and solid and should last forever (except for maybe the velcro straps which do seem sufficient for now and would be easy to replace if needed). Even though it is heavy I am still able to carry it around and install/remove it by myself (5'4-130 lb woman). I love that the locks were included making this a great value. I also love that its two separate parts so I can use it as a 2 bike carrier or a 4 bike carrier when needed. Many times I am only hauling one bike and dont need a ginormous 4 bike carrier. Etrailers shipping was super fast!! The only thing I can criticize is the terrible instructions but if you look at the pictures on the box you can figure it out fairly quickly, it really wasnt difficult. Overall, I am very, very happy with this bike rack! 163356

I've only just received my HR1400 Hollywood rack, assembled it, installed in on my car, and loaded it with 4 of our bikes, but I'm very impressed so far. It's exactly what I was hoping for. It is heavy, but it's extremely sturdy. I found it very easy to mount on my car and remove when I do so taking advantage of the fact it breaks into 2 pieces (which it does very easily). I'm looking forward to using it on our next outing. By the way, etrailer.com rocks! You had the best price on this rack and it was sitting on my doorstep 2 days after ordering (ordered Wed afternoon and delivered Friday). In addition, I had no issues with the packaging or the contents being damaged as a few others have mentioned in reviews. 122412

Ive owned this rack for a year now and I still love it. I would definitely buy it again if I ever had the need. Clearances are fine on my vehicle. I have no issue with the Velcro-like straps. The only issue I have is that I cant open the back of my car when bikes are loaded. But honestly, I dont find that to be a huge deal.

Great communication from seller. Fast shipping, particularly since it's free. Item arrived and was in good shape. Heavy and awkward to carry so be careful how far you have to lift it. Don't ask your wife to pick it up. Not very difficult to put together, although slowed down by cumbersome instructions with poor pictures and it took time to identify each part as the correct one. Good quality unit, although some packing styrofoam was glued to bars leaving several stretches of white, sticky goo on the upwards facing bars where the tire holders slide. Makes adjusting the tire holders more difficult. Overall a good product and handles the 4 bikes well. Will see over time how it holds up to consistent use. 105153

I called etrailer on a Tuesday and asked if I could get the rack by Thursday. I did! Etrailer service rocks! This was the third time I have ordered from etrailer. We just finished a 700 mile round trip weekend with the bike rack. We had 2 bikes for part of the trip and 4 bikes for the rest of the trip. I was very happy with the performance of the rack. Easy to install and very solid. It held the bikes very securely. I did not place the large hook over the lowest part of the top tube, as directed, because it caused the mountain bike tires to extend several inches beyond the side of the vehicle. (The picture from the rear is deceiving because of perspective. The tires were only about an inch outside vehicle profile as loaded.) The hooks held just fine as shown in photo. I used it on a 2013 Wrangler Sahara 2 door with factory P255/70R 18" tires. The bikes went onto the rack easily without a receiver extension. We could not, however tilt the rack to open tailgate or fold rack and lock into upright position. It lacked about 1" of clearing spare tire in both cases. Small issue, in my opinion. I'll probably just go to a machine shop and have a 1" extension fabricated. 100985

We were waiting for the UPS guy to deliver the new rack so we could take our bikes on vacation with us. Unfortunately we were one of his last stops for the day at around 7:45pm and still had an 8 hour drive ahead of us. Fortunately, the rack was super easy to put together and adjust. I had the rack assembled and the bikes loaded in just over 40mins. We were now ready for our 450 mile trip that night. I noticed right away the rack was very sturdy and supported our bikes very well. On the road the rack was very steady with very little movement or apparent vibration. We stopped at about 50 minutes into our trip to check the rack and everything was still tight with no issues. We also tried out the tilt feature to open our SUV liftgate while we stopped. It is definitely a two person job, but worked nicely. We made it to our destination with no issues and took the bikes to a trail to ride the next day. At the trail it was a breeze to take the bikes off and put them back on the rack. After our trip it was super easy to fold up the rack and store it in the garage. The rack is heavy, but manageable. So after a 1000 miles of travel (right out of the box) I would say I am very impressed with the rack and look forward to using it again. Thanks to etrailer for their excellent customer service; you guys are the best! 133279

Fast shipping by etrailer was great! Assembly was pretty easy (less than 30 minutes), although following following which pin into which hole was sometimes a little confusing. Very secure holding four bikes of varying sizes and styles (traditional cross bar to dual suspension). Being able to lean the rack down with bikes on is very handy. With an adult mountain bike in the slot closest to the car, hatch on 2007 Honda Pilot won't open quite all the way as it hits the bike's handle bar, but plenty of room to access gear in the car. Vertical towers for flat to fold up flat against the car, or horizontal tire holders fold vertical to store flat in the garage. 201065

Hadn't heard of Hollywood Racks prior to my stumbling onto this rack, but glad I did. I was in the market for a rack that could handle 4 bikes, and had already decided to purchase a 2" hitch (also from etrailer, and mainly so I'd be ready for towing if/when necessary). What I liked about the Hollywood Rack was the option to use it as a 2 bike rack when that's all you needed. The folding uprights make it easy to add the first (and third bikes), and between the uprights & locking mechanisms for mounting the rack on the hitch and extension rack (for bikes 3 and 4) onto the main rack, there is very little wobble of the rack or bikes. I've also found it easier to store the rack in two pieces, and to mount extension rack onto the main rack after its secured to the hitch. Also great that it comes with a lock for the hitch and a cable. I did buy an extra cable that I can run through rims if storing on the rack overnight (one cable is long enough to weave through the frame and rims of 2 bikes, the extra is only needed for 3 or 4). 400198

Nice, solid bike rack. Props to e-trailer for the free shipping as this thing was heavy. The bike rack was fairly easy to assemble. the only issue I had was that one of the stop screws that prevent the wheel platforms from sliding off wouldn't go in all the way. Not sure if the hole wasn't drilled properly or if I cross-threaded the screw, but I could only screw it in halfway. It's secure (and no one will ever notice), it was just a minor frustration when putting the rack together. The bikes are extremely stable on the rack and the rack is extremely stable when properly attached to the vehicle. They aren't budging. It took a few tries to figure out the proper configuration for all 4 bike, but once I figured out that puzzle, loading and unloading is a snap. The 3rd bike is a bit tricky to get on. I'm happy with this purchase. It was more than i wanted to spend on a bike rack, but I'm glad I went with the higher quality. 145072

This is a very sturdy product. It is well built, but as a result is quite heavy. Having the rack split into its two component pieces makes it more manageable, but lifting it with two people would be best way I could recommend safely transporting this rack. The rack has lived up to all of my expectations. Once calibrated for the bikes being placed on it, it can be loaded and unloaded in a matter of a five minutes (no zip ties required) and that even includes securing bikes to the rack with the included lock! The tire loops are easily adjustable though too, so it has never taken me more than 20 minutes to load (4 bikes.) Putting this on the hitch itself is just as easy, and the ability to tighten the rack with a lever reduces vibration and movement of the bikes in transit. Upon seeing this for the first time, my father-in-law bought the same rack at his local bike shop. 489855

This bike carrier is a tank and so it can be heavy and clunky when setting it up. It holds my bikes very securely in place once you get them there. The frustrating part is that it is very difficult to get the bikes all together without a pedal interfering with another bike/bike seat or scratching its frame. If you have a woman's bike with a lower top bar then it becomes even more difficult to get the bike situated in such a way that it doesn't interfere with another bike and its also forward enough so that the top clamp can engage the frame before bottoming out or running out of adjustment. Once you do have everything adjusted though and you are able to put everything back the same way every time then it becomes easy to mount the bikes. I took a picture of the bikes mounted once I figured this out and refer back to that picture when I go to mount the bikes. 349211

The quality of the trailer hitch and assembly is excellent. Very happy with the quality and the purchase price. Given I was installing on a 2004 Honda Odyssey in 2015, I did have difficulty with the pre-drilled holes and threads on the frame of the vehicle. I made several attempted to clean the threads but was unsuccessful. I eventually took the hitch assembly to a local installer and they put it on for $[...]. The instructions provided for self installation were very clear and straight forward. I use my hitch assembly to haul bikes around to various triathlons. I purchased the bike carrier separately and it slides right into the hitch opening and locks on. 246026

My husband gets frustrated very easily so imagine my surprise when this was installed with no complaints. It's very user friendly and I'm able to access the trunk without a problem. We have a Subaru outback. The bikes are secure and the rack easily adjusts to different size bikes. I love that you can adjust the rack to be smaller to carry 2 bikes. Everything about this rack is quality and easy to use. 216417

Tony,We dont have any problems. There is a bit of space from the back bumper to the beginning of the rack. My initial thought was, why do they make the rack extend out so far? Then I realized it was necessary so you can fit between the car and rack. Once its tilted we have enough clearance to open the hatch. We have a 2011 outback

This product is as good as it gets. I wasn't comfortable with the Saris Bones model on my vehicle model and felt more comfortable just getting a hitch rack. The Velcro straps on the Hollywood rack seem suspect in review videos, but they are solid. The rack has a little rock from side to side when the car is in motion, but the bikes themselves are fully secure. I am very paranoid when it comes to hauling my bikes, but the Hollywood rack puts me at ease and I don't have to check my mirrors every 5 seconds. The only issue I have is the clearance on my model from the bumper isn't that far, so my medal pedals did some work on the bumper. Luckly the bumper is scratched up anyways and would have been replaced. I suggest lining your pedals away from the bumper or using a foam, sock to cover them. Overall, I love this rack 144861

This performs exactly as advertised. It's a little heavy when both halves (2 + 2 bike racks) are moved in one piece, but you can always take a little more time and separate them. It also indicates the quality of build - a typical tradeoff strength vs. weight. The bike hooks (top clamps) are sometimes tough for my wife to get moving upward to release the bikes, but that binding is related to how hard I cinch them down and there's really not any way to avoid that without a more complicated mechanism. Simple, strong and has enough adjustment so you can get four bikes meshed together like puzzle pieces. Once it's set up, at most 5 minutes loading and five minutes unloading four bikes. Not too often a product lives up to expectations. Really no complaints as to performance and durability. Worth the money. 351986

I’d like to see how it performs after the winter of indoor storage. Here in MN, it’ll probably be another month or more before I get to haul the bikes anywhere - but I expect it will perform as well as it did last season.

thank you for the follow up. The bike hitch was delivered ahead of expectations and in good order. Given its weight the outside packaging (pictures attached) was damaged on the corners but the actual internal contents was well packaged enough that no damage to the product occurred. Have installed and used it on MTB trip already and it works great...love the optionality to have either a 4 bike to 2 bike setup. 352014

Comments

I have used the bike hitch a lot in both the 2 x bike and 4 x bike configuration. Both adult and kids bike sizes. Once you get the spacing setup loading and unloading is easy. Travels behind the vehicle really well and does not sway given the way it integrates with the locking pin system. Very happy with it.

Aside from the weight of this it's great. The weight makes it a little bulky to put up because of where the release pin is. This is my only issue. It otherwise has everything I wanted, which no other rack did without buying "extras" after already spend more on a rack for the name. This covers everything and has been easy to use. It tips out so I an open the back of my SUV without taking bikes off (we did test the clearance with bikes and no problem), I can get the top hatch of the back open at any time, it easily adjusts even for my kids bikes (again no extra parts to buy), the bikes are secure when loaded, a lock it provided and I love the fact that I can make this a 2 bike rack if I'm just hauling my kids' bikes. Reduces load and gas usage. Looking forward to getting a lot of use out of it. 392137

Product functions as expected and is well made(sturdy). It secures all my bikes very well (road and mtb). The included locking cable works great and it substantial enough that i feel good about leaving my bike on the rack while its unattended. I would reccomend this to a friend but there are some drawbacks (mostly nit picking) -Its heavy -The hoops the tires sit in do not tighten enough and move when the bike is not on the rack -Its a bit of a pain trying to adjust the tire hoops so multiple bike will sit side by side -i can not open my rear hatchnof the van with bikes on the rack. This is very inconvenient when traveling. All that being said i have it on my van about 40% of the time and its holding up well to the elements and hasnt marred up my frame like my old hang style rack did. 283668

This rack is very solid and even with 4 bikes I did not worry at all that they would come off during a 3-4 hour trip. After getting the individual racks set up for each bike, it was easy to load and unload. Adjusting the wheel holders in and out can be a bit of a challenge as they don't slide easily. I also wish there was a better way to change the way the rack sits on the car when empty. To adjust it to be flatter to the car and to lean it back to get in the back of van there are too my pins that need to be repositioned. It's easier just to take the whole thing off and leave it in garage. I use just the rack for 2 bikes a lot and it's pretty easy to get on and off the hitch even for me a 50 something women who is not terribly strong. 407420

Rebecca, IN reference to 106115837, on the Hollywood HR1400 and the 93447 (no rattle receiver unit). The 4 bike rack is just what I need. The unit is a well designed, sturdy, and we'll definitely be durable. The ease of loading and unloading bikes is great. In addition to the no rattle receiver unit keeps bikes on a safe and secure stable ride on the highway and off road. The ease and secure attachment device makes transporting a great peace of mind. The security features on the unit are great when away from rack with or without bikes. I am well pleased and would definitely recommend unit for safe, secure, transportation of bikes. The friendly and courteous customer service of Rebecca was great. Thanks, Ambrose C. 470870

Purchased last year and still love it-- Took us a a bit the first time we mounted it to figure how to arranges all 4 bikes, but once we got that down has been easy to load and unload. Traveled from the east coast to Michigan this summer and back with no problems (including a rainy day here and there). Bikes strap in quick and it is easily adaptable to all bike shapes. There was little rack movement on the highway. Also appreciate that it can be split and mounted with just two bikes. Folding away against the car was quick and easy. Subtracting one star because front pin can sometimes be difficult to move. eTrailer shipping was quick and customer service was helpful when deciding which rack to pick. 325910

I went to a lot of bike stores and searched on line sites before deciding on the HR1400. This bike rack is by far the most versatile carrier that I have seen for the investment. I received the carrier within three days. I configure it to carry just three bikes. It is heavy duty; the welds, bolts and hardware are made to last. It's easy to assemble for two or four bikes. The hitch securing and locking system really make for a sturdy assembly. The only drawback is, it's heavy duty. It take some muscle to put it on and pull it off the hitch. But it does fold up nicely. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this purchase. I'm thinking of purchasing the additional cargo carrier. 413271

I LOVE this bike rack! It's one of the best investments I've ever made. I use it almost every day during the warm-weather riding season where I live and I leave it on my vehicle March-Nov. Mostly I use it for just one or two bikes but sometimes I add the extension and carry 3-4 bikes. Sometimes I carry both a road bike and a hybrid. Cannot beat the ease of use. It is very easy to change its position when not in use. It is also easy to fold up and store the two-bike extension when not in use. IMO, there is no downside to this bike rack. Further, when I was shopping for it about one year ago, the customer service and technical reps at etrailer.com were extremely knowledgable and helpful. 414167

I really like this rack, I got it super fast when I ordered. It went together as quick as the video's showed and was easy to assemble out of the box. It was shipped in the manufactures box and boxed again for shipping. I think this rack will last for years, it's well made. And the option to use it as a 2 bike carrier is a plus. I mounted it on my Toyota Tacoma and if you removing the first bike you can fully open the tailgate, the video showed almost enough room with the rack fully loaded but removing a bike gives you all the room you need. The hitch lock and cable lock came with two keys each so you have four keys total that are keyed alike. I would recommend this rack to anyone. 199096

I love this bike rack. Once it was installed and the wheel trays positioned correctly, it has been very easy to use for 4 bikes. The flexibility with 2 or 4 bikes is terrific and they are very secure. No rattling of the rack like I had with my old bike rack. My only caution is that the supports may be too short for a kid's bike. It works on my son's 20" bike, but not at the lowest point on the frame. One glitch with my install was that the thickest pin (H6 on the instructions) wouldn't insert properly with the rack down or upright. I realized that I had overtightened the bolt with wrenches, and once loosened, the problem was fixed and the pin slid easily. 183669

I have bought multiple items from etrailer and I love the customer service, how quickly they answer questions about products, and I'm a fan of both the quality products and the prices. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE hitch bike rack is great. I get asked often what rack it is and where i bought it. Extremely fast loading and unloading and totally secure with no chance of scuffing the bikes. And I love the quick folding which allows the trunk on my 2016 Subaru Legacy Sedan to open when its folded or when bikes are loaded. Oh, i also bought the custom hitch and wiring set from etrailer, as well as a fantastic roof rack. Great company, and great products. 341079

The only thing better than this rack is etrailer’s service. I ordered this particular rack because of the good reviews it got and the fact that you do not have to use tools to install. I can have it installed on my vehicle in less than a minute in its 2 bike or 4 bike configurations. It is solid and secure. And etrailer’s service couldn’t be better. My rack arrived with a chipped pull handle. When I inquired about getting a replacement handle, etrailer was not able to acquire the part by itself, so they sent an entire rack to me, and paid postage to return the original. That is service above and beyond. Great company, great product. Highly recommended. 524609

After a year of ownership I must say I really like this rack. Bikes go an and off quickly. Which is nice when your loading up after a long ride and taking them off at home to put them away. We usually just pull the hold-down clamps off when loading and unloading. They go in the car while out on the trail so they don't disappear. The only drawback is the weight. Although, by specs it's only a few pounds heavier than some more expensive aluminum options. To store it, I hang it on bike hooks in the ceiling of my garage. That keeps it out of the way. Of course, working with etrailer.com has always been a good experience. Thanks etrailer! 296726

This massive rack shipped quickly and was delivered fast. It's a large box and it was double boxed securely. I watched the UPS driver lose his grip and saw the box tumble down the steps of his truck and crash to the ground. This arrived 1 day earlier than it said when I ordered it. My boys put it together and we went on a 400 mile trip with it. The bikes rode great and didn't have any problems. With the 4 bikes on it lowering it down you have to have help. However if you have 4 bikes on it there should be someone around to help you. With just the 2 bikes on it, it isn't hard at all to lower it to get into the back of your vehicle. What made me decide on this one was when the boys are gone and its just me and my wife you just unhook the back 2 carriers and remove it and store it away. The quality of the rack is great, it should last a long time. 420307

This is an ingenious, solid, heavy rack. Once adjusted, it's incredibly convenient to throw on your bikes upright. Folding it down and up is pretty simple---it involves pulling and inserting pins---but might be hard for someone with a bad back or lifting difficulties. I'm able to open my minivan trunk without having to use the tilt-down feature (which invokes an extra pin removal). The rack's simplicity is its greatest strength. Note: with kids' 12" wheels, you'll need the hoop adapters and to secure the bike on top of the seat rather than the top tube (just can't bring the adjustment that low). But it's still quite secure. 200409

Install pretty easy, just take your time. Took longer to match up the bikes since we have 2 kids/training wheels and wife has a step through. Honestly a great value with the included hitch lock and cable lock. Already used rack and it was solid with no movement to worry about. No way I would have fit these bikes on a normal bike rack. Only issue was missing a set screw in the kit (minor). 403215

The product required very little assembly. However, the assembly manual was inconsistent in its order of operations. Having you test the folding of the unit flat to the vehicle after just instructing you to fold the platform arms up from their horizontal positions to their vertical positions. Both of the short holddown (hooks) were missing the 3 nuts required to hold each assembly together. After informing the mfg's customer service of the issue, the 6 nuts arrived a few days later in the mail. Otherwise, the product seems solid and well built with good materials. 279041

Customer Service at E-trailer is great! Rebecca was able to answer all of my questions. While a little on the heavy side (I can not lift it when in the 4 bike arrangement) the rack seems to be all that it promised to be. I like the anti rattle feature and the "pin" set up which makes the rack a no tools necessary rack. The perfect rack would have had locks in the bike "clamp downs" and be a bit lighter. Assembly did not take long. My husband completed it in under 30 mins. Putting it in the hitch was the hook up for ease of assembly. 528297

The bike rack assembled very quickly. The written directions were very clear, the drawings need to be tweaked a little to make it easier to assemble, over all not hard. The rack is very sturdy and holds the bikes in place with the shaking most racks seem to have not an issue. The rack folds up quickly for easy storage. I would recommend this rack for anyone wanting a sturdy rack for a 2" receiver hitch. We have purchased e-bikes which are heavier than normal bikes and this rack carries them very securely. The bikes are also easy to load & unload. 144267

Product was simply perfect. Exactly what I was looking for, and it did not disappoint. Bikes are held firmly, without damage. Rack can accommodate bikes of multiple sizes with ease. I guess the only thing I can suggest is to add some reflective tape to edges of the rack. This is a large rack that extends a good distance from the rear if the vehicle. The tape will help others to see it at night. Currently using this rack on 2008 Saturn Vue, with drawtight hitch that was also purchased at this site. Also great product. Exactly what I needed. 242292

Like the product very much but you cannot open the hatch with the bikes on. I have a Toyota Sienna and you have to lower the vertical bar also in order to open the back hatch. There is a tilting option but with four bikes and the weight of the rack itself, it would take two people to tilt the rack down. But even at the tilted angle with bikes on, you cannot open the hatch. Otherwise, no complaints. 132756

Just got my Hollywood SE 4 bike rack and put it together with my buddy in about 30 minutes. A helping hand is not required but will make the experience easier, mainly because it takes two people to figure out what in the world the directions are talking about. With that being said we put it together just using the direcions, no other resources were required. My old rack was one that the bikes hung from. It was advertised as a four bike rack, but only three would fit. The front wheels and handle bars swung around and had to be tied into place. The plastic straps that held the frame to the rack were trash. That rack retailed for $100, you get what you pay for. This rack is heavy and keeps the bikes safe and in place. Another great feature is you can remove half and only carry two. Wish I had bought this one first. 185747

Thanks to etrailer for upgrading the Standard shipping to 3-5 Day Express shipping at no additional cost. We used the HR1400 bike rack this weekend with 2 bikes. It's very quick and easy to load and unload the bikes. It hold the bikes very securely. Great Product! 436288

It was rather easy to assemble. I love the way the rack is designed. I had to replace my 4 bike Thule because it does not hold 4 adult bikes and the kids have grown into the big bikes now. Very steady and barely moves when fully loaded. I love that the pin comes with a built in lock that you usually have to buy separate. I love this rack it has everything I wanted except it is not made in the U.S.A. I am sure it was designed here though. 206076

Ask the Experts about this Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks
Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Comparison Between Hollywood Racks # HR1400 and Swagman XTC-4 # S64655 Hitch Mounted Bike Racks
  • There are indeed some significant differences between the Hollywood Racks # HR1400 and the Swagman XTC-4, part # S64665. The reviews for the # HR1400 are shown on the product page for the bike rack, which you can see by using the provided link. The rack has been well received by our customers, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The HR1400 is an extremely versatile rack. It can be tilted away from the vehicle while bikes are upon it to allow easier access to the cargo...

  • Comparing the Hollywood Racks SE4 and Swagman 2+2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
  • The Hollywood Racks SE4, # HR1400, and the Swagman 2+2, # S64692, are two comparable bike racks. Like you have already said, the racks can handle 2 or 4 bikes with the last 2 bike section being removable. The SE4 weighs a little less (shipping weight is 82 pounds) when compared to the 2+2 (89 pound shipping weight). For wheel cradles I give the edge to the 2+2. The actual cradles are more secure than the hoops used on the SE4. Both racks have the same 45 pounds per bike capacity so there...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack that Can Hold 16 Inch Tires on a Childs Bike
  • A 16 inch bike is small and the best option as far as a bike rack is going to be a platform style rack like # HR1400 that you have referenced. You will need to add Kids Bike Wheel Hoop Adapters, # HRSW-ADP-2, in order to carry the 16 inch bike in the rack. The adapters will prevent the tires on the bike from going too far into the hoops on the rack. I have linked a video review and the instructions for you for the bike rack. Out of the bike rack options I think this one is the best...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 4 Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer
  • Most bike racks are not built to withstand the stresses associated with being at the back of any type of trailer or RV. But there are some that you can use. For a 4-bike rack that you can use at the back of your trailer you can use the BikeWing # B01458 which holds the bikes at the wheels. If you prefer a rack that holds the bikes at the frame the Yakima LongHaul # Y02476 is a great option. I have included links to videos for both of these racks and a link to all of the 4-bike options...

  • Recommended Method to Transport Kayak and 4 Bikes on 2015 Ford F-150
  • Hitch-mount load extenders like the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier # DTA944-968-924 do not include a built-in bike carrier feature nor are they suited to any add-on carriers. We do offer some combination cargo/bike carrier items, such as the Hollywood Racks # HR1450-85, but nothing meant for both kayaks and bicycles. However, you can install a 2-inch front-mount hitch # C31070 in your 2015 F-150 and place either the Darby carrier or a hitch-mount bike rack in that front hitch while...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Carrying 60 lb Yuba Mundo Cargo Bike and 3 Lighter Bikes
  • We do indeed have a bike rack that would work well for you, but the Hollywood Racks SportRider SE4 has a maximum weight capacity of 45 lbs per bike. Even though the remaining bikes are much lighter, Hollywood Racks doesn't recommend that any one single bike on the rack exceed that 45 lb capacity. The most reasonably priced bike rack we offer that would work with your scenario is the Thule T2 Classic, part # TH9044-TH9046. This bike rack has a single bike capacity of 60 lbs, which would...

  • There are several similar features between the Hollywood Rack, part # HR1400, and the Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack, part # Y02443-2. These are both nice bike carriers. Both bike racks can be configured to carry either 2 or 4 bikes. Both will tilt for access to the rear cargo area of the vehicle. They both come with locks that secure the bikes to the rack and also locks that secure the rack to the vehicle. They both measure the same distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the...

  • Can the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400 4-Bike Bike Rack be Used on a Motorhome
  • As long as the 2" hitch receiver on your 2001 Fleetwood Discovery Motorhome is rated for the 74 lbs of the 4-bike rack version plus the additional 180 lbs of bikes (45 lbs per bike) then you are good to go. The only other thing to be sure of is that you have less than 12" of clearance from the center of your hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of your motorhome to ensure clearance. • Comparing the Swagman Quad 2+2, Hollywood Racks SportRider SE4, and Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Racks
  • I will be happy to help you out with the 3 platform bike racks you are looking at. I will go over each one for durability, ease of use, and what I would recommend. I might even throw in a surprise 4th option! In terms of durability there are a couple of things to look at. The Swagman Quad # S64692 and Hollywood Rack Sport Rider # HR1400 are primarily steel. Steel is strong but also heavy and susceptible to corrosion. These racks also use hand knobs to move the wheel cradles and those...

  • Will Draw Tite Hitch and Hollywood Rack Sport Rider 4 Fit a 2016 Nissan Rogue SV
  • The Draw Tite hitch part # 75902 is a fit for your 2016 Nissan Rogue SV and would be a great choice. The Hollywood Racks # HR1400 would also be a great choice for a bike rack that would fit and provide you with the ability to carry 2 or 4 bikes at a time. The rack and the hitch would fit perfectly fine together. I attached an install video for the hitch and a review video for the rack.

  • Comparing the Yakima HoldUp and Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Carriers
  • Right away I can tell you that the Yakima HoldUp, # Y02443-2, is going to be the superior rack. In terms of carrying smaller kids bikes you would need to use an adapter, # HRSW-ADP-2, to carry kids bikes with 16 or 18 inch tires on the Hollywood Racks SportRider, # HR1400. Ground clearance is just about even and it should not be an issue for either carrier. The HoldUp is going to be easier to use in terms of folding it up and down since it has integrated spring loaded pull pins where...

  • I recommend the Swagman Quad Bike Rack, # S64692. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 4 Bike Rack, # HR1400, may fit on your 2005 Jeep Wrangler, but you will need to take one more measurement to be sure. • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Best Ground Clearance
  • The rack that would give you the best ground clearance and bike wheel protection would be the Saris Freedom part # SA4414B. This rack has an angled shank that angles up soon after the shank exits the hitch opening. The bikes are also loaded higher and higher as you get further away from the back of the vehicle, whereas the other racks don't have that feature. Where you will see ground clearance issue the most will be the portion of the rack that exits the hitch opening. On the # HR1400...

The second half of the rack pins into place for easy installation and removal when going from 2 to 4 bikes. Then remove the red endcap from the detached piece, and place it into the base of the 2-bike rack that you will be using. If you have a 2 inch hitch on your 2012 Lexus RX350 like the # C13143 this hitch would work well just like the # S64692 or the # HR1400. • Choosing Correct Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity for Using a 4-Bike Platform Bike Rack on Honda CR-V
  • The Curt Class III trailer hitch # C13119 does have a 350-lb tongue weight (TW) rating as you noted, and that capacity must be enough for the weight of the bike rack itself plus that of your loaded bikes. A substantial 4-bike rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400 weighs about 80-lbs all by itself. Add the bikes and you are indeed talking about a hefty load on the hitch. • The differences between the Hidden Hitch Class III Hitch, # 87719, and the Curt Class III Hitch, # 13389, are very minimal. The Draw-Tite Hitch, # 75305, is going to sit approximately 11-3/4 inches from the top of the receiver to the ground. The Curt Hitch, # 13389, is going to sit approximately 12-1/4 inches from the top of the receiver to the ground. The benefit to this hitch is that it installs in about half of the time as the other. • What Prevents the Rear Portion of the Hollywood Racks Bike Racks # HR1400 From Getting Stolen
  • The pin that secures the two pieces of the rack together to make it a 4 bike rack actually is threaded so that it there is no movement between the two pieces. In order for someone to steal the back portion of the rack he would have to have the right size wrench to un-thread it. Most bike rack thieves don't run around with sets of wrenches on them so the odds are that your rack wouldn't get stolen like this. Check out the review video I attached for this rack.
