Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Padded Locking Hooks

The Current's mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Extra-Wide, Sliding Wheel Cradles

Adjustable Wheel Trays

The extra-wide cradles hold fat bike tires up to 5" wide. They also slide to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. Hand knobs let you release the cradles to slide along the bike tray and adjust for your specific bike lengths. Each cradle has a ratcheting strap so you can secure your bikes' wheels during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

Threaded Locking Hitch PinThreaded Locking Hitch Pin

A spring-loaded release lever in the base of the rack lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for cargo area access. You can also use that same lever to fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. A second spring-loaded release lever lets you fold the mast down so you can fold the rack up.

Complete Security

Threaded Locking Hitch PinThreaded Locking Hitch Pin

The ratcheting hooks have lock cores in the release buttons so you can secure your bikes to the rack. Simply slide the hooks over your bikes' top tubes until they click and lock them in place. There is also a keyed-alike locking hitch pin that secures the rack to your vehicle.

Removable Adapter Sleeve

Adapter Sleeve

The rack has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

Very sturdy and easy to assemble

I had a customer service woman named Kelsey that was wonderful helping me get the bike rack I needed! She asked me questions I did not realize were needed to get a rack that was compliant for our new e-bike. etrailer has some great people behind them along with some great racks, trailer needs, accessories…. This rack is for our new e-bike and will be put onto my 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK! It took my husband very little time to get it put together (45 minutes?). I’ll post some pictures when we go to use it this coming weekend. I also got a ramp which I will review after this weekend. Thank you etrailer for having everything I needed for today’s project!

Installation instructions are a little bit tricky, but totally doable. Takes a little bit of time to adjust each bike into its best place (in relation to each other on the rack), but once you have it set, then you’re always good to go.

Love that there are no awkward wires and pins, just two simple levers to tilt the rack away from the vehicle or lower the center bar down. Love that the crossbar hook is super secure and locking (best feature ever) and that the key is the same as the hitch lock. Feels sturdy and well made.

Since there is quite size difference in my XS Specialized Rockhopper Mtn bike and my husband’s LG Specialized Tero Mtn e-bike, we had to put his heavier e-bike furthest away from the vehicle, going against the recommendation for the heavier bike to be placed closer to the vehicle. However, because of the placement, configuration and lengths of each crossbar hook, this is the only way it would work. I suppose I could have gotten a crossbar frame adaptor for my smaller bike, but we are pretty confident it’ll be okay.

Videos showing how much jostle to expect while driving was helpful to know what is/isn’t normal. Installation videos and photos submitted by other reviewers were totally key to purchasing this particular hitch rack. Installed on a Jeep Patriot with 2” hitch receiver.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about the bike rack— I'm glad that, after working out all the adjustment for your bikes, it’s working well for you, Michelle! When's the next bike bike ride?

by:

Was easy to put together.
Haven't taken
it on the road yet but don't foresee any issues. We'll be going down to Cape Cod in September, so that will be it's road test.

by:

I watched the videos on a few bike racks to determine what will work best for me. Just installed this and I think it's going to work great. My wheel base on my bike is a little bigger than what it recommended for this rack so I had to have both the wheel cradles going in the same direction but the straps are verry sturdy to hold the wheels tightly. I fold down the center mast to load the bike then it's easy to tilt it up and lower the top hook.

by:

This rack is solid and gets the job done. We purchased a pair of e-bikes and needed to upgrade our rack. Very happy with our choice of this rack, etrailer promptly shipped the order and it arrived on the date they estimated which was great because we need to pick up the bikes the next morning. Rack was very well packaged and easy to assemble took 30 to 45 minutes and it was ready to go. First trip picking up the bikes was 80 miles and the rack preformed great. The bikes are held solid on this rack and easy to load and unload. We couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Thanks etrailer

Have been using the rack for a year now and no issues at all. We traveled over 2800 miles back and forth to Florida this winter with it and it worked out great. I would not hesitate to buy this rack again.

@David Glad to hear you are happy with your Swagman Current Bike Rack # S64678, David. I have made the drive from Missouri to Florida many times and it is awesome to be able to bring the bikes along. What kind of bikes are you carrying? Are they some fancy E-bikes or just basic road/mountain bikes like mine?

Description should give weight of item. I could not find it anywhere. Other than that looks good and heavy duty.

Bike rack has held up and still functioning as it should. Still looks the same as the day I bought it. I would still recommend this product

by:

Fantastic product, with super shipping and order support. Given that it's rated for bikes twice the weight of these 2, I was looking for something really solid, and this delivers! Had to reverse the ordering of the hold-down arms to get a good hold on the bike with a low topbar, and I had to use a bar adapter for the lowstep bike, but it all worked. Some people had expressed concern about the bikes or rack blocking the taillights, but on my Honda Pilot there was no problem. Only issue -- which isn't its fault -- is that my backup camera/collision warning system thinks it's going to hit the bike and alerts when in reverse; don't think there is a workaround there. The rack and bikes do not extend past the width of the Pilot, which is nice. When empty and folded up, it's very compact, and the rear hatch opens with plenty of clearance. Unlike the pictures online, the tiedown straps are black, not vivid yellow, which suits me fine. Very solid and well made!

It’s still fantastic, built like a tank.

by:

Coming from a Kuat bike rack made out of aluminum this thing is built like a tank. I needed the extra weight capacity of the Swagman for carrying two electric bikes from the Electric Bike company in Newport Beach, CA. The Electric Bike Company also recommended the Swagman for transporting their beach cruisers, since the Swagman secures the bikes by the upper frame rail of the bike and not from the tires like so many other racks. The EBC bikes have fenders and steel baskets, which make a rack that secures bikes by their tires unusable. The Swagman came packaged with zero damage, and went together in a matter of minutes. I put it on my truck to pre-test it out with our two bikes, and to get the bike tire holders properly spaced and tightened down. Our bikes each weigh 53lbs. and this particular Swagman has a max rating for 60lbs. per bike. The Swagman comes with a cable to lock your bikes, a locking receiver pin, and the arm that secures the bikes is lockable. So far, I'm really liking this rack, based upon the quality, security, and price.

Great well built sturdy product. Easy to assemble , good instructions - highly recommend fire heavier bikes.

In case anyone wants to know...the Swagman Current E-Bike Rack fits my 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback perfectly. The folding feature is great too and the whole system looks like it was made just for this car. I'm 73 and it took me maybe 1 1/2hr at the most to assemble from start to finish and only because I like to double and triple check everything.

by:

Great product - easy to assemble and great for our 2 bicycles, including my wife's Blix e-bike.
The only criticism is, that on the box it says it fits 1 1/4" and 2" hitches - in the brochre it says NOT to use it on 1 1/4" hitches.

Thank you for pointing this out. This can not be used on a Class 1 inch and a quarter hitch, but it can be used on a Class 2 inch and a quarter hitch. The difference between a class 1 and a class 2 inch and a quarter hitch is that the class 2 has about 350 pounds of maximum tongue weight as opposed to the class 1s 200 pounds. Some class 1 hitches have a stop tab inside that blocks class 2 accessories.

Here is the review and the picture is attached. 5 Stars.

“As I have two expensive eBikes, I want to leave little to chance. Although a lot heavier than aluminum racks, I fully trust the Swagman.

I have had 2 issues: 1) one of the nuts that hold the yellow tire straps was lose. I tightened this, and no issues since. But it has made me keep an extra nut, spring and strap with my kit. 2) I transported my bike with a flat tire one time, and it did bounce free, as I did not push down as hard on the ratchet hook, as I should have. Like any equipment, get to know it for optimum use.

I own a Haibike SDURO and my wife has a Pedego Interceptor. They each weigh about 50lbs. Mounted a 2” trailer hitch from [moving company] on the back of my Subaru Outback (least costly… about 2 hour install including trip to [hardware store] for the required metal drill bit).

All good… I would recommend this rack. And etrailer Website videos gave me enough details to feel comfortable I was getting the right model. Thanks!“

by:

When I purchased my new e-bike I had to upgrade to a new bike rack because my old bike rack could not handle the weight of the new e-bike. Since I had a Swagman XTC2 and was very happy with it, I went with Swagman again and I'm happy I did. The one key fits both the hitch pin lock and the bike hold down hooks. I can fold the rack back with a bike on it and lower the tailgate without having to remove the bike.

by:

I have not used the bike rack yet, just finished putting it together it looks to be very nice and quality, but the directions were vague and made it kind of difficult to figure out

by:

I have two Lectric Ebikes. This my second attempt to find a bike ramp to carry both bikes. Finally success. Holds and safely secures both. Solid construction. Fits on my 2" truck hitch and the 1-1/4" trailer hitch. Very pleased. See my photos.

by:

Service was great! I could not believe how quickly I received the bike rack.
Assembly was easy and we have used it daily since receiving about a week ago. The rack seems to be very robust and sturdy. I feel confident in driving down the road with our Lectric E-bikes mounted on the back of my truck.

by:

The product is great. It's sturdy and not hard to put together. Fits nicely in the hitch on the back of our Rav4 (see pic). We have two e-bikes and they both fit easily on the rack, which will be useful when we go to bike trails that are further away from us.

by:

Love the Swagman Current 2 Bike platform rack. Easy to assemble. So far very satisfied with rack. Performs as advertised.

by:

Awesome bike rack. Easy to assemble and load/unload bikes. Holds my wife's e-bike with no issues. Got a great price from etrailer. Highly recommend

by:

Solid bike rack for carrying heavy e-bike. Assembly was fairly simple but there was no clear direction for installing the wheel cradles. We eventually figured it out but a better illustration and markings on the cradles would have helped. The orientation is crucial to allow the rack to fold as we found out the hard way. The folding feature is very nice but make sure to measure the distance from the folded position to the bumper. It goes right up to the bumper on our Forester with very little clearance.

by:

Fast delivery, easy install

by:

Getting the initial adjustment for out bikes took a bit but now it works great. Would be even better if the padded arms had adjustable length versus set, but it meets all my requirements.

  • Comparing Swagman E-Spec and Current Bike Racks for an SUV and a Ram ProMaster RV
You have a great eye. Both the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR and the Swagman Current # S64678 are super strong bike racks that are constructed for brute strength. This is because Swagman wanted both of these racks to be approved for use when attached to the back of motorhomes/RVs. However, the E-Spec has the advantage of strength because not only can the E-Spec withstand the extra force/torque exerted on it on the back of a motorhome/RV, it also can withstand the increased force when mounted on...
