Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman XC-Extended bike rack ratcheting arms

The mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Wheel Hoops for Recumbent Bikes and Standard Bikes

Swagman XC-Extended XC wheel hoopsSwagman XC-Extended XTC wheel hoops

The XC-Extended bike rack comes with 2 sets of black XC wheel hoops, which are great for carrying standard bikes. It also comes with 2 sets of silver XTC wheel hoops to give you extra length for carrying recumbent bikes. The hoops adjust with a hand knob and slide along the arms of the rack to accommodate each bike's wheelbase. Just loosen the hand knob to swap out the XC wheel hoops with the XTC. They also include rubber straps to secure your wheels to the rack.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XC wheel hoops installed

The XC cradles measure 65" outside to outside and 37" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 3-1/2" wide bikes with wheelbases up to 52" wide.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XTC wheel hoops installed

The XTC wheel hoops measure 81" outside to outside and 51-1/2" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 2-1/2" wide and wheelbases up to 69". They also include straps that secure your bike's wheels to the rack.

Folding Mast and Bike Trays

Swagman Traveler XC2 2-Bike CarrierSwagman Traveler XC2 2-Bike Carrier

You can fold the mast down for easy access to your hatch. Simply pull the pin at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction. You can also fold the trays up against the mast for storage. Just pull the pins at the junctions where the trays meet the rack, fold the trays up, and reinsert the pins into the provided holes.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Removable Adapter Sleeve

Adapter Sleeve

The rack includes a threaded hitch pin and a clip that work with a built-in anti-wobble device in the shank to eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. You can replace the pin and clip with an anti-rattle lock (sold separately) to secure the bike carrier to your vehicle. It also has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

by:

Product was shipped in 2 business days. Easy to assemble and install.

by:

We just wish the hitch bar was a little longer so I could mount the recumbent on the inside without the seat hitting the rear hatchback. This is our second Swagman and there are no real improvements over the last one except a long width to accommodate the longer bike.

by:

Overall the rack seems of good quality. Long recumbent loops are of higher quality than the standard loops. Hitch pin is too short for my truck's receiver. The threads on the pin are NOT standard (1/2-12), so finding a longer bolt would be a problem. They want you to buy the longer (expensive) locking hitch pin.

Bought this rack to transport a SWB and A LWB recumbent. Ordered it after reading some reports on it. We were in the middle of a move from Georgia to Wisconsin and had to leave one of our vehicles in Atlanta. I found a SWB in Tennessee and needed to transport it to Wisconsin with our vehicle when I flew back to Atlanta to drive the our vehicle home.

I had the carrier sent to my friends home in Atlanta. When I arrived from the airport I was able to install the primary support into the 2" receiver and bolt in place. The bolt tightened down the support so there was no play in the connection. I then took off for Wisconsin with a stop in Tennessee to test drive/purchase the bike and take it home. I had a lot riding on the performance this bike rack. If it didn't work I would forego the purchase of the bike I had found.

Got to Tennessee and purchased the bike. Took the components out of the book and assembled them onto the primary support member. Adjustment of the tire holders to fit the wheel base was easy and fast, actually did it in the dark with a flash light. Really liked the removable pins with the ball detents in them. That made the entire process very simple and quick. We had the bike on the rack in less than 10 minutes.

I transported the bike more than 900 miles with it on the rack. It performed perfectly at speeds above the posted limits. I have attached a photo showing it in our driveway at home.

The only concern I have with the rack is the attachment of the rack to the primary support. This is not a tight compression fit and it wobbles a little. This causes the bike to behave a bit like a rocking horse when it is on the rack. This connection condition, while not critical needs to be a little tighter to make it a rock solid mount.

I highly recommend this rack, it performs as promised and is a great value.

Still works just fine. Glad I purchased this.

by:

Rack arrived a day earlier than promised. Very easy to assemble. I did not need the extensions, but glad I have them for the future. The sleeve that fits the 2" receiver is a little loose so whole rack is wobbly, but should be able to correct with some sort of shim. I mounted on front of truck (because I pull a travel trailer) so clearance between inside bike pedal and truck grill really close. I wrapped pedal in towel to (hopefully) to prevent damage to truck grill. Very easy to load bikes on and off. Ratcheting clamp hold the bikes down well. There is a hole for a lock on the ratcheting clamp. So far, very happy with my purchase.

This bike rack comes with a threaded hitch pin to help keep the rack from wobbling inside the hitch receiver, but if youre still seeing too much play, the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 anti-rattle device is another great option to remove slack between the shank and receiver. You could also try securing the top of the bike rack to your tow loops with a ratchet strap like part # 317-402400.

by:

Well, I like the rack. It was sold as a low sway rack but it is not. The movement is mostly where the bar that comes out of the hitch receiver and hooks onto the main bar of the rack I think this connects with a pin so there’s a lot of movement here. My other problem is getting a replacement part. I lost the long hook /ratcheting handle that holds the bike on the rack. I’ve been trying to get a replacement from swagman and their website says that it is out of stock and has been so for several months. So my bike rack is now just a paperweight. I would have given it another star if I could get the replacement part.

by:

Thank you again for such excellent customer service. I am including two pics from today showing the bikes mounted on my 2009 Honda Fit with the bike rack we purchased from you. Please feel free to use them in any of your publications, print or web.

Wonderful! We are now carrying TWO recumbents on it. Will get a pic next time I have a chance. - Just to be clear though, there is a weight limit on the rack so make sure you watch that as some recumbent bikes can be heavy. We have Bacchetta Corsas, which are light and fall within the specs of the rack to carry both.

by:

it was easy to put together. My 66" wheelbase recumbent fits! Good price.
I have been looking for a bike rack that fits for awhile. FOUND IT!

First rate. EZ to assemble, install. Reliable carrier. Fairly light, but sturdy. Love it!

Love it. Works with my wide-base semi-recumbent Sun bike. Great Value.

I have bad shoulders and could no longer lift my long wheelbase recumbent bike up to my Thule rack. The new rack solved the problem and made it much easier to load the bike. Very happy I got the new Swagman rack.

by:

Excellent service! Less than 3 days for free delivery! Fairly easy to put together. Had no problems taking 1 lwb recumbent and 1 diamond frame bike 120 miles. Excellent quality for reasonable price.

by:

After a lot of researching I came to find this Swagman. It was about $100 less than the competitor and I called customer service and they were awesome. They explained what I need to measure on my brakes because I have a recumbent and a regular bike. It came with great instructions and it was easy to put together. It is well-built and easy to use. I always had a bike rack that hung and this is much better. I highly recommend it and once again the customer service was great.

Great!!!!!

by:

This rack worked great with my recumbent bike (Rans Rocket) and my wife's road bike. I searched for weeks to find a rack that would work with both bikes and finally lucked out and found this one. The extended loops gave it just enough room for both bikes. And, the bikes are rock solid on the rack with just one quick lock of the sliding hook. Time from set up to driving off with the bikes is less than five minutes. This includes attaching the rack to the vehicle. Great bike rack. Very easy on the back too!

So far so good, 2 trips with it without any problems!

by:

I love this trailer. Only one problem is that the 2" adapter is a bit loose in the hitch. Planning to add a shim to correct that. I have a recumbent and the adjustment wheel brackets work perfect. I highly recommend it to other "bent" riders.

The maximum wheel base is 66 inches, so your recumbents may be a bit long. Hollywood Racks, part HR1000R, will accommodate up to a 74 inch wheel base and it is a similar design as the Swagman.

by:

This bike rack is the only one that I could find that can be used for a recumbent or a regular bike. That's why I bought it. Actually, I have only used it one time since I did not need my bikes transported but once. The bikes survivied the trip, but there was more wobbling. Maybe I need to adjust my installation. It's quite similar to the way city buses hold the bikes.

Very pleased! I made an adjustment to reduce the wobbling. I adjusted the space between the tires of the bikes. I havent used the rack for my recumbant yet.

Etrailer has been so very helpful. I have a woman's Giant Cypress bike that hangs very low on a rack - especially on a car. I sent pictures and measurments and etrailer examined the hitch and bike then made a recommendation for a Swagman platform bike rack. (The swing away's would not work) It was fairly easy to put together. We effortlessly put the two bikes on and it felt very secure with plenty of room above the ground. On the highway I watched it from the back window and felt confident that the bikes would not come loose. We traveled about 80 miles with no problems. The only complaint I have would be it was difficult to unhitch the bike hooks; the latch seemed to stick a bit. I was very pleased with our first voyage.

by:

I received the bike rack and it was not hard to put it together. As I adjusted it to place my wheels on it they would not fit. The bars are not long enough for the bike. My recumbent is an EZ Sport EX .

You mentioned that the bars are not long enough for your bike. Can you tell me what the wheel base measurement - the center from one wheel to the next wheel - is on your bike? Is it the length of the bike rack bar that is too short or the hooks?

Swagman bike rack arrived yesterday. After removing all contents from the packages and laying them all on my garage floor I placed the universal foot into my Forester hitch receiver and proceeded to assemble the rack there, in-situ. So easy to put together and it took a little more than an hour. It is very well made, solid, does not wobble and looks great. I can't wait to get on the road with our bikes soon. I am confident that this rack will serve us well for many years to come.

I am still just as satisfied as I was when I got it. I love the ease of loading and unloading. I can do it in about 5 minutes and then off I go to the trail. Thanks again. Great product~

by:

Good Product. There is a bit of play between the hitch and rack. I think there should be a place to LOCK the rack to the hitch so that it cannot be stolen...instead I just pack up the rack and keep in locked in my car, while riding. The lock I did get, I will return because it was WAAY to long
to keep the bike steady...too much play when driving.
This hitch and rack work really well on my Honda fit when considering that i am putting a 2 wheel recumbent on it. I'll know better in the fall how well it works...I live in AZ. and it is now way to hot to ride.
All in all, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to carry a bike on a small car. It is really well made.

by:

Carrier is a wonderful design. I purchased it to transport my LWB recumbent and my wife's mountain bike and it handles both perfectly. It is very easy to install and remove thanks to the fold-up feature. I received this hitch a couple business days after I ordered it. Really fast shippers and great people to do business with. I would recommend this rack from etrailer.com to anyone needing a hitch mount rack.

  • Using the Swagman XC-Extended With a Women's Frame Bike
Its highly likely that the Swagman XC-Extended, part # S64650-EXT will need an adapter for a women's bike like part # 64005. This is true of most frame mount bike racks, as the curved, sloping frames of Women's bikes are difficult to get the frame clamps to connect with.

Hey Brian, so there's a chance the Hollywood Racks RV Rider part # HLY64FR will work for you but we need to know your wheelbase as well. The wheelbase is the distance between the axle centers of the bikes basically. This has a max wheelbase it can work with of 60 inches. • Measuring a Bike's Wheelbase to Confirm Fit on the Swagman XC Bike Rack
I have a solution for you, however the Swagman XC, part # S64650 will not fit a bike with a 69 inch wheelbase. Wheelbase is normally measured from the point where the front and rear wheel touch the ground. If the 69 inch measurement is from the front of the front tire to the back of the rear tire, then the wheelbase will be less and the XC will likely fit. Measure between where the tires actually touch the ground. If this is less than 51-1/2 inches the XC will fit your bike. If the base...
