Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve

Brad Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve that's gonna take our receiver tube opening from a two and a half in to a two inch. So, if you have that two inch ball mount and you've upgraded to a heavier dutier truck and or maybe you just have a couple trucks in your fleet no worries. You're not going go have to buy a whole separate ball mount. You can go ahead, put that sleeve in place and be able to put your two inch ball, no problem. I really like that I can from my pickup with a two inch receiver to my diesel with a two and a half inch without having to get any additional equipment. Now it also has two notches on here which makes it nice and easy.

That way when you slide this in you can't push it too far. It's not gonna get stuck in there, you're always gonna have a little edge here to be able to pull that out if you do need to go back to that two and a half. Now what's also nice is you're not gonna need a special pin and clip. You'll just be able to slide this through. You'll align your holes and then your normal pin and clip will go through, holding that all in place.

Now you can see that our ball mount has seen better days as it's starting to rust but the great part about this being steel construction with that black powder coat finish, that's gonna hold up against that rust and corrosion so you're not gonna see that transferring over for a long time. And that was a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve, going from a two and a half inch to a two inch..

This adapter sleeve lets you use 2" towing and hitch-mounted accessories with your 2-1/2" hitch receiver. Durable, carbide black powder coat finish.

It does what its supposed to do. I have a 2024 F350 and the sleeve sticks out an inch or so past the end of the receiver because of how the holes line up. I don't think that affects the functionality but would be great if it was flush.

by:

This hitch worked well on my Kona electric. Etrailer provides outstanding service. Will definitely purchase from this quality company again.

by:

Excellent product, very sturdy. We have been using them on our trailers for years.

by:

Had exactly what I wanted in a hitch and the adapter. Fast delivery. Highly recommend

by:

Sliped this adapter right in my Class V Hitch works great. I'm using it with A Curtis adj hitch and locking pins. I'm towing a 24ft 10k cargo trailer with it.

by:

Works great

by:

Perfect fit, just what I needed, always fast shipping and great customer service from etrailer.com

by:

My recommendation for this product would be to make it longer to distribute the load along the entire length of inside hitch receiver. Also to get rid of the tabs on the front because I had to cut them off to be able to slide my hitch in far enough to line up the pin holes.

Dont use it. Worthless as far as Im concerned.

by:

Good fit and helped greatly with mounting a Thule bike rack.

by:

Fits perfectly in my 2.5 inch F-350 receiver. Minimal movement with a solid feel to ensure my Airstream 2 inch Equalizer hitch set-up can perform as designed.

by:

Works great. I have 2.5" hitch on Pick up truck, while my smaller SUV is a 2". This will be handy with bike rack!

by:

Very thick and strong.

by:

Not much to say. It's a hitch sleeve. Does what you would expect. I do like the little nubs on the end that keep the sleeve from sliding into the hitch too far.

Same as before. Not much to say. Its been great.

by:

Stops line it up perfectly in my 2012 GMC 2500 hitch. Only thing I don’t like is it fits a bit loose and it rattles some

by:

So far so good. Got this due to our new f250 having the big hitch. Feels solid & time will tell when we hauls a 26ft trailer with it.

Jeff

Working great. However due to trailer & a new f250 we had to get a whole new assembly. Oh well for the short amount of time we used it, it worked great. Price was great too.

by:

the receiver reducer did not fit my truck, the holes for the locking pin did not align. Your site said it fit my truck but it didn’t.

Sorry to hear that. This is a universal item that converts a 2.5 inch receiver to a 2 inch. Here are the specs to see if it fits: Dimensions: 5.5 inch long x 2.5 inch wide Pin hole diameter: 5 eighths inch

by:

This sleeve adaptor is perfect. My kids bought me a 2" NFL hitch cover for Christmas, even though my hitch receiver was 2-1/2" I figured I could always use a smaller receiver adaptor for another trailer that I have. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise, but it is a good fit and I may be able to use it for towing in the future (and my "gifted" hitch cover is installed).

by:

Does what is supposed to do. Seems solid and have had no issues. Use it to pull trailers ranging from 3,500lb to 10,000lb. Have not noticed any slop or movement beyond what I had with the stock 2" receiver. The only thing that is not great is that when pushed in all the way to the stop tabs the pin hole is past the pin hole of my receiver so you have to line up three sets of holes rather than just two.

by:

etrailer.com has become my favorite shopping website when I need something for my truck or travel trailer. I now check etrailer BEFORE amazon. They always have what I'm looking for at a great price and the delivery times are really not too bad. I'm spoiled by 2 day shipping but I've come to appreciate the quality of the products here. Having an RV specific website makes finding just the right part a lot easier. Oh and the adapter for the hitch receiver on my 2020 Ford F-250 fits perfectly. I was afraid the spare tire was so close to the back of the receiver that the shank might be too long, but nope, it's perfect.

by:

Not a precise fit. The adapter does allow some additional movement between hitch and the receiver. I recommend using the same size hitch and receiver whenever possible and skipping the adapter.

by:

Product arrived just as described and works great with my Silverado 2500HD since my hitches and bike rack are all for a 2" receiver.

by:

Product arrived in a damaged box and had some scratches in various places. Packaging could have probably been more robust.
Other than that, the installation was quick and straightforward. Unless you regularly bench about 100 pounds, you'll need some assistance. Have yet to tow with it, but it should work just fine. Much better than the stock hitch that failed which prompted the replacement. 03 GMC Sierra 3500 CC Long bed, Dually, 6.6L.

by:

The hitch adapter works well, however I can't insert it all the way or the pin holes don't line up. This makes it difficult to put the hitch in and having to line up all 3 holes at once.

by:

this was just the ticket for my new truck. My hitch didn't match the receiver any more so this was perfect. Though the pin that I ordered to go along with it was only just big enough to secure the hitch. I would recommend a longer pin for the 2 1/2" receiver, as it is, I will likely just leave my hitch attached.

by:

Slides in a little too far, not a real problem. The fit is somewhat sloppy... would like it to fit more snug.

  • Curt Rebellion XD 2 Inch Shank and Reducer Sleeve Over a B&W Tow and Stow
I would be happy to help you. If you are not going to be utilizing the capacity and are concerned about bottoming out because of the drop you do not need I recommend the Curt Rebellion XD Shock Absorbing Adjustable Ball Mount w/ 2" and 2-5/16" Balls - 15K item # C83WR over the item # C57UR. The shock-absorbing cushioned isolator helps with bumps, vibrations, and chucking you get from hauling a trailer. • How to Use a Blue Ox SwayPro w/ a 2-1/2" Hitch Receiver
No, it does not but there are a couple of options to make them work with a 2-1/2" receiver. The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution item # BXW1006 and item # BXW1000 are only sold with 2" shanks. The least expensive option is to use the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve item # C45405. This inserts into your 2-1/2" receiver and doesn't lower your capacity. It has been confirmed to work with weight distribution systems. I think this will answer your question about making up the difference....

  • Can Reducer Sleeve Be Used With Blue Ox SwayPro
You definitely don't want to use the Curt since your 2023 Jayco Jay Flight 280RKS weighs 6,495 lbs with nothing in it. With that kind of rating on it I'm guessing you got a reducer and extension. Your typical reducer sleeve does not have a weight rating on it since it doesn't reduce hitch capacity. For example, our note on the Curt # C45405 states that the weight capacity is limited to the rated capacity of your hitch receiver. The same is true for the etrailer # e26YR. If you would rather...

Then for the rear seat you'd want the part # WT4410122 and you'd be set. We don't have a hitch lock at this time that fits a 3 inch hitch and keys to your Ford key. For a 2-1/2 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter we have the part # C45405.

The B&W has a hollow shank which is required to use this anti-rattle lock.

Going to an 18,000 pound rated trailer hitch on your 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 will indeed require you to switch to a 2-1/2 inch receiver. This is not a problem though because as you mentioned we have various adapters available such as the Curt # C45405 that will reduce this opening to 2 inches so you can continue to use your existing accessories. Because the sleeve slides into the hitch receiver it won't restrict the use of your accessories at all in terms of capacity or function and it...

Either way I checked with Torklift and I can confirm that their SuperHitch Magnum Trailer Hitch item # TL76CR is only designed to fit the 2020 Ford F-450 cab and chassis with the diesel engines. A reducer like the Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 will work with your current shank without any loss of capacity. Because there is another moving part, it may give you slightly more noise than using a 2-1/2 inch shank like # C17131 which will give you the 2 inch drop you referenced. Sounds like you are planning on towing a heavy trailer. Replacing your hitch and then getting a WD system would be one option, but it most likely wouldn't be cost effective.
