Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the socket set and ratchet. This is going to give you both SAE and metric socket so you can get a lot of jobs done with this one piece. The packaging is also kind of a carrying case. It makes it easy to keep all your stuff together. The sockets fit on here and these articulating pieces here so it can be easily flipped out to grab that socket and put it onto the ratchet.
You don't have to use this obviously. You can put it into whatever you want, but it might make it easy to kind of stash it inside your truck, in an extra toolbox or something like that. I would say that this kit is probably a good one to have as kind of a spare or an extra set. It comes with a ratchet that has a 45 gear teeth, which is okay. It's not going to be the best ratchet out there, but it's going to get the job done. So if you want to use this for like occasional use, just to throw kind of in maybe your camper or just kind of to have as an extra emergency set or something like that, I think this is a really smart choice to make with this.
Since it does give you several ratchets, it's pretty compact. Again, makes it easy to stash it anywhere you'd want it to be. So let's take a closer look at what actually comes in the kit.So here is our ratchet. You just pop this out and you can hear those gear teeth. So it's usually the best indicator of kind of the quality of a ratchet.
So you hear that moving around. There is a little bit of play in that ratchet. So again, this is not something that I would suggest you use day in and day out as your constant go-to ratchet. I think it's better kind of as an extra or a spare. The sockets themselves, they should be just about as good as anything else.
They are a made out of a chrome vanadium alloy steel construction so should be pretty durable and long lasting. To get those guys on there you just push on the back of that ratchet to pop it in place and then they should hold accordingly. The handle's pretty nice and comfortable. Feels like it should do pretty good job of giving you that leverage to tighten or loosen things up.The set comes with, again, standard and metric sizes. So just running down the list here, we get a three eights, seven 16ths, half inch, nine 16ths, five eights, 11 sixteens, three quarter, and 13 16ths. Also get 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 19 millimeter sockets to go with it. This is a half inch drive so the sockets will work with any half inch wrench. So if this one does ever wear out on you, you can always replace it with a different half inch wrench or just use it with any of your other half inch drive tools. Put this back in place and then I'll give you a measurement of how big this piece is. There we go. So you can see again, those sockets can flip out so it makes it easier to pop them off and they do hold pretty well onto that piece overall. So looks a little longer than my ruler. It's about 13 and a half inches long roughly, when with the sockets in place it's about roughly six inches wide and again, approximately two inches deep. So should be easy to stash underneath your seat, kind of put over to the corner in your camper or something like that, put in a toolbox or anything like that on the front of your camper, or wherever you might want to place it. So that's pretty much it for our quick look at this socket set and ratchet. I hope that this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right kit for you.
