Features to know about

Handle Your Weekend Hauls with Confidence: Class III Strength for Towing and Carrying

This hitch isn’t just for the occasional job — it’s built for regular use. With a 3,500-lb maximum gross trailer weight and 350-lb tongue weight (or up to 5,000 lbs GTW and 500 lbs TW when used with weight distribution), it’s ready for small campers, boats, or utility trailers. The 2" x 2" receiver opening fits the most common towing and carrying accessories, so you can swap between a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier without needing adapters.

Straightforward Installation at Home: Bolt-On, No-Drill Design

You don’t need a lift or welding gear to get this hitch mounted. It bolts directly to the frame using a complete hardware kit that’s included in the box. The precision, robotic welding ensures everything lines up with the existing mounting points, so you can install it in your driveway with basic tools. Once in place, it sits solid and secure for everyday towing or carrying gear.

Built to Last Through the Elements: Fully Welded, Powder-Coated Steel

Strength and corrosion resistance come standard here. The hitch is fully welded for maximum rigidity and finished with a gloss black powder coat over a protective base layer. That double coating helps fight off rust from road salt and weather exposure while keeping the round-tube design looking clean under your bumper.

Keep Your Setup Simple: Ready for Common Accessories

Because it uses a 2" receiver and standard Class III rating, it works seamlessly with popular towing accessories like ball mounts, pins, and clips (sold separately). Whether you’re hooking up a cargo basket for extra storage or loading bikes before a weekend trip, this receiver gives you the flexibility to use one hitch for all your gear.

The install was very straight forward. However I ran into a bump very early into the install. Fish leader was a little to short to reach the opening at the back of the frame. This was my only entry point for the hardware. To remedy this, I made the fish lead longer. See first photo.
Thanks a bunch etrailer.com

by:

Very easy to install
Everything matched
up perfectly
Did it by myself with the help of a jack
The fishing wire worked great takes a little bit of patience
From the box to installed less than an hour.

by:

Could not believe how easy it was to install, did it by my self, and one jack stand, finished in a little over and hour. Everything sent with it, worked like a charm and wouldn't know it 5 of the 6 bolts went together great and the last one was a bit of a pain lol but it fit like a glove and looks great!!!!!!!!!

by:

Great product a perfect fit for my 2009 Ford Escape. Installation was easy and the Videos by etrailer was a great help. Thanks for a great product and service.

by:

Good welding, good fit, good finish, easy installation. I will use it to tow a small trailer with my '05 Mazda Tribute. I opened the frame holes with an angle grinder and die grinder for extremely easy access (my frame is boxed). It took about an hour for prep, install, and cleanup (part of every job). All told- a very good value.

by:

Very nice fit. My only complaint was the thicker recommended spacer for above the exhaust caused the bolt to extend out at an angle and not far enough. I spent an extra hour trying to make this fit and then to remove it and install a standard spacer. This one hour job took me two hours. If I had another one to install it probably would only take me 30 - 45 minutes. I installed to use with a bike rack and possibly other cargo racks down the road.

by:

Purchased for 2012 Escape XLT w/3.0 V-6. Installed it by myself today, which took a bit of planning. These are not a light weight product. Everything fit perfectly. My only suggestion for etrailer would be to cut the fish wires about 5 inches longer. They are just a tad too short to fish from the farthest bold position. I used a short piece of an old fish tape to extend mine, and everything went smoothly.

by:

Install was fairly easy and straight forward. Like some other reviews, using the spacer on the passenger side did not allow the side holes to line up with the frame even when tightened, so I removed it and all bolts tightened just fine. The 2 in receiver will give me the added confidence for a loaded bike rack and utility trailer.

by:

Etrailer is doing things right with fast shipping and accurate information. This CURT hitch and T-one wiring harness was quick and easy to install.

by:

Instructions say installs in 30 mins for professional and 60 mins for diy'er. Wrong. This is only true if you want to enlarge a existing hole large enough of pass through the bolt and brackets by grinding the metal unibody frame. I don't like grinding because latter it will rust. Even if you paint the spot latter it's better to find another way to pass through the harware. I removed the bumper and brackets to avoid grinding. This is why I'm a diy'er, because a shop probably would not repaint the exposed metal.

by:

The process was easy and fast. It was delivered in about 3 days. It is working great and was very easy to install.

by:

I don't like to buy products on line but I did it when I needed a hitch for my excape. The hitch showed up in 3 days with regular shipping that was free. I do not have a garage or many tools I I hope it fit correctly and would be easy to install like the add said. It fit like a glove and was installed in a hr. I will tell anyone I know needing trailer products to give etrailer.com a try .

by:

Very easy to do took less than 40 mins ( I did remove exhaust pipe from hanger for the install, just use some spray lube easy off, easy on) It was nice to have 2 bolt springs , one of mine got hung up & broke but having 2 in kit really helped.
I also removed the spare tire for the install was easy to do & made it easier to put on but not necessary.
I even used the box it came in to lay on the ground to do in my driveway, so easy to do without putting on a lift.

by:

this product was as described and in excellent new condition when it arrived with in a week of ordering, no shipping charge. The hitch installed just as the instructions and the video outlined, using a floor jack I was able to install it by myself in less than an hour. looks great, solid and pretty.

by:

I installed this receiver on our 2012 Ford Escape XLT 4x4. Everything lined up perfectly. There was no interference from the the exhaust hangers. The fish wires worked great. The hardware slipped in easily from the end of the frame rails. I think it took a whole two beers from setup to cleanup to leisurely install this hitch.

by:

Thanks for the shipping upgrade and prompt delivery. The Curt hitch and wiring harness went on with ease just as advertised. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in my garage with the help of my 11 year old son (see attached photo). The video on etrailer.com was a terrific help. I am already looking for things to attach to my new hitch on etrailer.com. You have my business, and I will certainly pass along your web site to all in need of parts.

by:

This trailer hitch receiver was super easy to install on our 2005 Ford Escape. Game changer for us. It fit perfectly. We added a trash can carrier to it to deliver our bin to the end of a very LONG driveway.

by:

Great product easy to install the video on the web page was a lot of help. Very fast processing and shipping I will buy from etrailer.com again.

Its working out great I never dreamed we would use it so much.

This is the 2nd Curt hitch I have installed in the past two years, the other being on my 1996 F150. This one (13650) I installed on my 2008 Mercury Mariner, and I continue to be impressed with Curt products. Everything lined up perfectly and the hitch went on easily, looks great, and is way more heavy duty than anything I would ever need on a Mariner. No drill required on this one, leave it in the toolbox. I would recommend Curt hitches to anybody. My only complaint is, and this happened with both this hitch and the one I installed on my pickup, is they show up looking like they were dragged BEHIND the FedEx truck instead of inside of it. I was able to spot-paint the areas that were dinged/scratched down to bare metal, but it was very close to being returned/exchanged based on my opinion of what's acceptable. Other than this issue, it's a great product.

by:

Installation was easy and the finish looks great. The only thing I would mention is that the instructions say a 2007 and later model year mariner/escape/tribute should have open ended frame rails and mine were sealed but a few minutes with some large drill bits took care of my access problem

I got it to use with those extra cargo carriers. it was pretty easy to install into the car even by myself. Ive used the rack several times and when its not being used I bought a logo hitch cover that I really like for the extra advertising space instead of bumper stickers. Ive debated towing a trailer with it but I dont have one and I havent yet purchased the lighting wire harness.

by:

Just completed the hitch install. It was very easy, had a little trouble around the exhaust but no big deal. Very nice hitch and shipping was fast. I will definitely recommend etrailer to anyone needing a hitch.

Had about a year now. Hitch is solid and no problems

by:

After much research about hitches for my 2008 Ford Escape I settled on etrailer because of the detailed information concerning installation. I am visually oriented so having video to guide me was a huge help! In just an hour I had the hitch done! I need to use a small trailer from time to time and the car had no hitch on it. This will help me when I need to make a trip to the dump, haul off spring clean-up and get my Pelican boat to the lake. If their were ten more stars to click on I would click on number 10 for sure!

Still looks brand new even after a North Idaho winter with all the road salt.

by:

Hitch arrived fast, box was torn open on both sides with metal mounting parts sticking out.
Slight paint scraping but nothing too terrible.
I had also ordered a curt trailer wiring tester that must of fell out of the ripped part of the box in shipping. I contacted customer service and no questions asked had another one shipped out for free, which arrived within a couple of days.
The only problems I ran into while mounting this on my 2012 Ford Escape were the holes in the frame were not big enough for the mounting hardware to fit through which I already knew might be a problem, so using a step drill bit took care of that and after adding the required space plate on the passenger side the bolt holes were just a little off which required using a floor jack under trailer hitch to help line everything back up.
Great instructions and a perfect fit even with a full size spare tire.
last thing be ready for a arm work out torquing the bolts down to 110lbs on your back. Great communication from beginning to end, Thank you.

by:

This 2 inch hitch is well made very satisfied. I bought several things from this company before very pleased. Batch, these people that deliver these heavy items, they tearday box.All the hell when I received my hitch, the box was torn open, had a big hole in the side sat mission. The hardware I called e trailer three days later , I had the hardware very , very satisfied

by:

The receiver hitch was easy to install. I watched the etrailer video and installed it in about an hour. The wire harness was plenty long and not difficult to install. The only suggestion I would suggest is to maybe put more that 4 zip tie retainers for the wire install in the kit. I had plenty at home so it wasn't a big deal. Everything fit fine and functions as I was hoping. We are currently in Washington State from South Dakota where we reside. No issues at all hauling two bikes on a bike rack. Shipment arrived on time. Box was in acceptable condition. Ordering was easy.

  • Trailer Hitch And Bike Rack For A 2012 Ford Escape
Hello Chris. For your 2012 Ford Escape I recommend the Curt Class 3 Hitch # 13650. This hitch has a 2" receiver which is standard and will give you a ton of options for a bike rack. My personal favorite bike rack is the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA22B. This rack will work with the 2" hitch and it can carry 2 bike weighing up to 60 lbs apiece. So this will work with virtually any bike, even heavier e-bikes. It will also accommodate larger tires up to 5" wide. The Kuat racks are top quality, and it...

Hey Kelly, thanks for reaching out! I see you've purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13650 and the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118551. These are great options for your 2012 Ford Escape, and exactly what I would have picked out for you! The only other thing you'll really need, if you don't already have one, is a ball mount. I really like the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # e66PR because it hits the sweet spot of affordability, functionality, and it just flat out looks good. U-Haul...

Depending on your bikes and type of rack you are needing may require a different bike rack. The Yakima OnRamp LX Bike Rack # Y88DJ is great for heavier bikes or bikes with fenders.
