Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Toyota Tundra

Today we are going to install part number 65031 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 2005 Toyota Tundra pickup. To begin our install, let us take a few pieces off the vehicle. First off, this tow hook right here has to come off it will stay off. This skid plate right here, that will have to come off and stay off. And then this hook over here, this loop or tie-down has to come off, also. This bolt here and here and there are two back here that come out and allow the shield to come down. Next we will install the hitch on existing weld nuts. It is a good idea to have an extra set of hands because it is kind of heavy and kind of wide. Once we have the hitch installed by the factory bolts I am sorry, with the factory holes then we use the hitch as a template to drill out the last two remaining holes. All right, what we will do from here on out is, we will go ahead and snug the bolts down, lock the hitch into position, and we will start our drilling. The hitch will mark where our holes are going to be drilled at. Again, we will use it for a template. We will start off with a 1/4-inch drill bit to make a pilot hole, and then we will follow it up with a 1/2-inch bit. And this is the other one right here.

Next we are going to install our handle nut here. And this handle nut has a flexible handle so you can maneuver it in whatever shape you can to get to the hole that we are going to run our bolt through. Essentially, this handle and the nut is going to go through this hole. We are going to bend the shape to fit above this hole right here and then run our bolt into it. So you take it and just bend it like so, and then that allows you to maneuver the nut over the hole and thread your bolt. You do the same thing for the other side. Then we will just snug up our bolts and then give them their final torque. All right, we will give the bolts their final torque, as specified in the instructions. That concludes our install of part number 65031 from Draw-Tite.

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Front Hitch

  • Front Mounted Receiver Recommendation for 2004 Toyota Tundra
Unless you drive your Tundra pretty aggressively off-road, I would not be terribly concerned about removing that skid plate. I examined the instructions for the Curt Front Mounted Receiver, and the access hole the instructions refers to is not too far rearward of the hole that the bolt needs to go through. The bolt leader included with the receiver is actually a pretty ingenious way to get that bolt and block washer through the frame to where it is needed. Although we do not have an...

  • Does Skid Plate have to be Removed or Any Trimming to Install a Front Hitch on 2006 Toyota Sequoia
For the Draw-Tite front mount hitch, # 65031, the skid plate will have to be permanently removed to install the hitch. You would also need to drill two holes in the frame rails (one on each side for the rear most hitch attachment points). I have included a link to the installation details and a video install on a similar vehicle below. I spoke with my contact at Curt about their front mount hitch, # 31180. To install it, you will not have to remove the skid plate. You will need to enlarge...

  • Recommended Front Mounted Hitch for 2005 Toyota Sequoia
For your 2005 Toyota Sequoia we do have a confirmed fit for your vehicle. I recommend the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 65031 which will also fit the same model year Tundra. I've attached a video of that installation to assist and have linked the installation details as well.

  • Using Grille Guard and Front Mounted Receiver on 2006 Toyota Sequoia
I took a look at the grille guards and the front mounted receivers available for your 2006 Sequoia. The mounting brackets for the grille guard and the mounting flange for the receiver would both use the same holes in the underside of the frame members, and the way the hitch and the grille guard attach to the underside of the frame would interfere with each other. You could use either a grille guard like the Westin # 32-1360 Ultimate Bull Bar or a front mounted receiver like the Draw-Tite...

  • Availability of Winch Mounting Tray for 2002 Toyota Tundra
Since we don't have any winch mounting trays that attach to the front of your 2002 Toyota Tundra the best option we have would be a front hitch like the Draw Tite part # 65031 and then using a winch mounting plate like the # 6495. The hitch would not require any welding for installation.

  • Front Hitch Recommendation for a 2002 Toyota Tundra
Both the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch # 31180 and the Draw Tite Front Hitch # 31180 that you referenced would be excellent choices for your 2002 Toyota Tundra. I would probably go with the Curt hitch only because it has been reviewed more times and has the same 5 star rating as the Draw-Tite and its a little more economically priced and has the same capacities. I attached an install video for this product for you to check out also.

  • Does Skid Plate have to be Removed to Install Front Hitch on a 2007 Toyota Sequoia
Apparently the skid plate on the 2007 Toyota Sequoia will interfere with the proper installation and placement of front mount trailer hitch # 65031. You might be able to modify it and reinstall it but I cannot confirm that. The installation instructions are the same for the Tundra and Sequoia and if there was a difference, such as the skid plate having to be removed on one and not the other, they would specify it in the instructions.

I am sorry, this front-mount hitch only fits the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia models, but not the Land Cruiser.

  • Recommendation For Front Mount Hitch And Motorcycle Carrier For 2006 Toyota Tundra
The Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch, Item # 65031, that referenced is a confirm fit for your 2006 Toyota Tundra. It has a 500 lbs vertical load limit and a total weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. It has an easy, bolt-on installation with all the hardware included. You can easily attach all kinds of accessories to it including a motorcycle carrier. The Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier, Item # UF48-979033, will not work well for you because it works with 5 inch, not 7 inch, tires. I recommend...

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Tundra
For a front mount hitch for your 2004 Toyota Tundra, there are 2 options, see link. Both of them are going to require drilling, trimming, and/or removal of the skid plate for the hitches to fit properly. I would go with the Draw-Tite hitch, # 65031 because it has a high vertical line pull at 500 pounds. Vertical line pull is like the tongue weight rating on a hitch that would be on the back of the vehicle. It is the amount of downward force the hitch can handle. Though the hitch can...

  • Is Drilling Required to Install a Front Mount Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Toyota Tundra
When installing the CURT Front Mount Receiver, # 31180, on a 2006 Toyota Tundra, you will need to drill a total of two 1/2 inch holes. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. The other hitch we have for your truck, # 65031, also requires drilling. I have included a link to the instructions for this hitch as well and a link to a video showing a typical installation.

  • How To Carry a 100 Lb Kayak on a 2006 Toyota Tundra While Towing
In order to carry a kayak on your 2006 Toyota Tundra while towing a trailer I recommend the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier part # DTA944-968-924 which evenly distributes the weight of the kayak across both the roof of your vehicle and the hitch receiver. Now, the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier can be used in one of two ways. The load extender can be used on the rear and still allow you to tow your trailer if you used a multi-purpose ball mount like the Curt Multipurpose Ball...

  • Does Front Skid Plate have to be Removed to Install Front Mount Trailer Hitch on 2006 Toyota Tundra
The Draw-Tite front mount hitch # 65031 requires removing the front skid plate for installation. See instructions and video links I have linked for this hitch. On front mount hitch # 31180 you should not have to remove the skid plate. The 2001 model we installed it on did not require removing the skid plate and the installation instructions make no reference to removing it. I have linked the instructions and a video showing a typical installation of this hitch as well.

  • Can I Use a Hitch Extender to Carry Two Bikes on 2000 Toyota Tundra with Sunlite Popup Truck Camper
Using a hitch extender like # HE18 on a 2-inch hitch will will extend your receiver by 18 inches when measured from the center of the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the pin hole in the extender. The downside is it will reduce your trailer hitch tongue capacity by 50 percent. So if your trailer hitch is rated for 500 pounds of vertical load, you will only be able to load 250 pounds on the hitch. You will need to take the weight of the rack, the adapter/extender and the bikes into consideration...
