A combined lighting system, or 2-wire system, uses the same light bulb to signal both braking and turning. (In other words, the car signals a turn by flashing the brake light.)
A separate lighting system, or 3-wire system, has the brake signal and the turn signal light up independently of each other. Typically, the turn signal is amber.
To keep the separate lighting system on your car functioning properly while you're flat towing, add a wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes.
If the engine is off and your car's brake lights illuminate when you press the brake pedal, you need to install a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) with this kit. Without a relay, your car's brake signal will override the turn signal sent by the RV when you are slowing down to make a turn, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Other drivers will see that you're slowing down, but not that you're making a turn. With a brake light relay, you can signal both and travel safely.

What I expected. Wish the harness had been two feet longer (installed on JLUR). The installation video one etrailer.com was a good resource. Worked as advertised.
We installed the system with relative ease. We used a vehicle lift to install the wiring underneath the vehicle. Works nicely with our flat towing system.
I was told that this tail light and diode kit works on my 2025 Chevy Trax. It does not. You cannot hook if up to your battery to charge while towing because you cannot disconnect the positive battery terminal. As such, you cannot isolate the vehicle battery.
Additionally, you cannot connect the trailer light wiring to a 2025 Chevy Trax. The tail lights and signals are controlled by the vehicle's computer. You must use separate magnetic tail lights and signals. I still use the adaptor cord, but only to go from my motorhome to separate tail light wiring that runs to my magnetic lights.
Good quality product however had to remove one star because they did not supply bolts to mount the connection plate. Also could include a few more zip ties. Had to go buy bolts and more zip ties which was a little inconvenient given the price of this kit.
I'm happy with the product and I was able to install it without too much difficulty. The etrailer.com video does not accurately represent the tail light removal. I believe the video was for a 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid. On my 2024 Ford Escape Hybrid the rear bumper must be removed in order to remove the entire tail light. To avoid removing the bumper, I disconnected all except the one hidden connection and pivot the tail light to create approximately 1.25" space at the top. I was able to fish the wires and make the diode attachments through that 1.25" space

This kit was fairly easy to install on a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. If you use this kit to set up a Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar you do not need the 7-wire to 6-wire coil connector as the tow bar comes with it. Get a 4 diode wire kit without the coil connector and save money.
Works great, to charge battery of toad you need to change the 12v power from center to match the towed vehicle or wire up towed car to center post 12v

Works great we use it at least monthly to pull our Jeep gladiator behind the RV no issues at all
