Great customer service

I installed the Derale D13503 in series with my existing factory installed auxillary cooler for added protection on my Ford Explorer Sport Trac. With the Sport Trac tranny having the reputation for overheating failure, I took the cooling up a notch! I tow a 7X14 enclosed v-nosed trailer, and now I am protected! It was a very easy install, and the included hardware made it pain-free :-)

with these fittings and transmission oil cooler on my 2000 Ford F350 superduty powerstroke diesel has lowered my temps by 15 degrees.
Thanks

I have a 99 Ford F250 4WD 7.3 diesel with 191,000 miles. I am on my 4th transmission. I pull a horse trailer once a year to Colorado or Wyoming from E Texas on an elk hunt. Other than that, maybe a camper or horse trailer hauled to my deer lease 100 miles away. I finally added a temp gauge to the last one. Now I was seeing that my tranny was running around 205 just pulling my trailers up a small grade around my county. Outside temp around 90. I replaced the original Ford cooler with one from Ford. Same results. I did research on my own and stumbled on to Etrailer.com and articles of the Derale 8000. I had this put on by my radiator man. He wanted to mount it above the Ford cooler to get max airflow. He had to fabricate some brackets and use some other hose connectors as the ones furnished didn't fit right. Not a problem for me as this thing has finally solved my problems. I ran the same route with my horses loaded in the trailer(est 6000# total wt). The temp gauge registered 170 to 175. That is a drop of 30 to 35 degrees. I now feel confident when I go to Colorado in a few weeks that I won't be broke down on side of road with overheated tranny and buying another tranny when I return. Etrailer shipped product very fast. I am overly happy regardless of it not just fitting perfect.

Great product at a good price , makes adding a trans cooler easy.
fast shipping too.

by:

Does not work on 99 F250 7.3L. The flare sides of the fittings are to long and deep to use with the existing cooler and fittings.

by:

Recommended for the transmission cooler install .... Did not see where it was needed.

  • Important Temperatures to Monitor When Towing and How to Lower the Temperatures If Needed
The key temperatures to monitor when towing are the transmission fluid, engine oil and coolant temperatures. Each of these fluids will have different ranges that you will want to stay within. For transmission fluid, the ideal operating temperature is between 160 and 200 degrees. If you find that you are running over 200 degrees, I would recommend installing a supplemental transmission cooler, like part # D13504, if you do not already have one. I also recommend using the Ford radiator...

You can certainly use the Derale 24 Inch Frame Rail Fluid Cooler, # D13225, for your 1999 Ford F-250. You would also need Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings, # D13025, for the 7.3 liter Powerstroke. Any transmission cooler will could essentially be considered a remote mount application. • Location of Transmission Lines on a 2001 Ford Ranger For addition of a Transmission Cooler
One of my co-workers here happens to have a 2001 Ford Ranger with 4.0 Liter engine and automatic transmission, so I went out and checked under the hood. The transmission lines are located at the drivers side radiator tank, see photo, and run down, then across to the passengers side before turning back and running to the transmission. You should check your vehicle because different vehicle accessories or packages and the engine size and drive train may affect the location of the transmission...

  • Is Larger Transmission Pan Needed if Installing Supplemental Transmission Cooler on 2002 Ford F-350
No, you will not have to install a larger transmission pan if you added a supplemental transmission cooler though you may need to add more transmission fluid. This is because the core of the new cooler and the hose to add additional capacity. But a larger pan is not needed.

  • Can I tow a 30 ft Dutchmen Travel Trailer with a 2003 Ford Explorer
To determine if you can tow your 30 ft Dutchmen travel trailer with your 2003 Ford Explorer, you will want to find the towing capacity of your Explorer and compare that to the loaded and ready to tow weight of your trailer. I did some research on your Explorer and found that the Explorer will have different maximum tow ratings depending on how it is equipped. For 2WD models, if you have the 4.0L SOHC engine without a tow package, then the maximum towing capacity of your Explorer is 3,500...

  • What Transmission Cooler Fitting Will Fit On 2002 Ford F150 With 4.2 Liter V6
The transmission cooler fittings you have referenced, # D13018, are not the correct part for your 2002 Ford F150 with 4.2L V6. For the 2002 Ford F150 with 4.2 L V6, it depends on what size transmission line fittings you have. If you have 5/8 inches-18 transmission line fittings you would use the Transmission Cooler Fitting, # D13025. If you have the 1/2 inches-20 transmission line fittings you would use Transmission Cooler Fitting, # D13024.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2006 ford F150 5.4 with the Tow Package
You are on the right track, installing a supplemental transmission cooler to go along with the factory cooler to maximize the cooling of the transmission fluid is a great idea to prolong the life of your transmission. The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504 would work great. To make installation easier on your 2006 Ford F-150 you would also want the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings # D13025. This will thread into the radiator and on the outlet line to provide...

  • Hose Size and Fittings to Install a Transmission Cooler on a 2010 Ford F-150 4.6 Liter
The type of fitting to use will depend on the thread type used on the transmission line fittings on your 2010 Ford F-150. If they are 1/2"-20 threads use kit # D13024. If they are 5/8"-18 use # D13025. If you can measure the diameter of the threaded part of a fitting on your truck that will tell us which one is correct. If you are getting a kit such as # D13504 then the proper size hose is included. The standard hose is 11/32 inches inner diameter.

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2009 Ford F-150
Both the Derale Transmission Coolers # D13503 and # D13504 referenced in your question are great options for your 2009 Ford F-150. Between the two options, I recommend going with the Derale # D13504, as its slightly larger size will allow for a greater cooling capacity. The unit measures 11 inches wide, 12 inches tall, and 7/8 inches deep. As long as you have the required space behind the grille of your F-150, this cooler will work perfectly. If your F-150 has the 1/2"-20 thread on the...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendations for a 2002 F-350 with the 7.3L Diesel
Transmission fluid should run below 200 degrees Fahrenheit. At 240 degrees you definitely need to make some sort of change to reduce the temperature. I would first recommend having the transmission checked by a qualified automotive technician to be sure it is performing properly. This will assure you that no damage has been caused to the transmission and you will not be stranded. Installing a transmission cooler will not reverse any damage that may have already been caused. If you find...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation For 2011 Ford Escape
I spoke with Ford and they told me that there would be no problem adding a transmission cooler to your 2011 Ford Escape. You will want to check your owner's manual on recreational towing for any restrictions. The Tech told me the only restrictions might be the space that a cooler needs, but that is always the case when considering a transmission cooler on a vehicle. For your Escape, I recommend the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13502. This measures 11 inches Wide x 7-1/4 inches tall...

  • Recommendation for a Supplemental Transmission Cooler for a 2007 Ford F-150 with 5.4 Liter Engine
Based on the information you have provided, which I greatly appreciate, a standard supplemental cooler should be sufficient for your needs. Ideally you want the transmission temperature to be no more than 200 degrees F. Mounting a larger cooler directly behind the grille (in front of everything else) such as # D13504 should get you to the ideal range. You will also want fitting # D13025 so you will not have to cut and flare any lines. A remote cooler with its own fan will provide the optimum...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2003 Ford F-150 with 5.4 liter V8
Yes we have transmission coolers that will work great installed on your 2003 Ford F-150 with a 5.4 liter V8 engine like the larger and very efficient Derale # D13504 that requires the adapters # D13024 and # D13025.

  • DIY Installation of Transmission Cooler for 2006 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty
Yes, the transmission cooler is a fairly easy-do- it-yourself installation. For your 2006 Ford F-250 or F-350 with a 5.4 liter engine, you can purchase the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings, # D13025 to ease installation. This way you can avoid cutting the original transmission line and flaring the cut ends. For an at-home installation I would allow 2-1/2 to 3 hours or more for the installation. Before ordering you should measure the available space in front of your radiator or air conditioning...

  • Can 2009 Ford F350 With 9300lb Tow Capacity Safely Pull 8100 lb Travel Trailer
Towing capacity, payload and tongue weight are not the same, but are closely related. Towing capacity is pretty self explanatory. It's the maximum trailer weight a vehicle can pull. This can vary according to how the truck is configured and equipped. Payload is the amount of cargo a truck can carry, typically in the bed of the truck. The truck's payload will be reduced by the amount of tongue weight applied by the trailer, as you suspected but the tongue weight won't be deducted from...

You are correct, it is recommended that you install a transmission cooler in the return line of the factory transmission cooler. • 1/2 Inch Hose Barb Fitting to Install Transmission Cooler on a 2005 Ford Expedition
We have a 1/2 inch compression fitting to go from 1/2 inch line to 1/2 inch NPT barb # D13033. I would actually have the flow go from the transmission, to the factory cooler in the radiator, then from there to the other cooler, and then to the Derale cooler before going back to the transmission. This is the normal way to install a supplemental cooler (at the end of the line). The fitting we have listed for the 2005 Ford Expedition is # D13025 which are 5/8 inch inverted flare fittings.

  • Transmission Cooler for 2000 Ford F-250 Towing Heavy 5th Wheel Trailer
Any fluid leaking from a vehicle is a warning. Often this indicates excessive temperatures in your transmission. If your transmission is stressed to the point of leaking fluid this means that somewhere either a seal, hose or other fitting is being pushed past its limit. My first suggestion is that you try to find that leakage point so you can check whether you have a bad seal or fitting that can be replaced. Driving your truck, let alone towing a trailer with it, with an inadequate trans...
