Video Transcript for Trimming a Truck Bed Liner for Fifth Wheel Rails

Today we're going to cover a frequently asked question on how to cut out a bed liner for a fifth wheel installation. It's pretty easy, we'll measure for our crossrails just like normal and then we'll go ahead and mark out our bed liner. Measuring from the edge of the bed of the truck, not the bed liner, but the edge of the bed and measure out. We'll go do one side, we'll go to the other side and make a mark as well. Now those will be the marks that'll align our first rail way. We'll make sure that our rail is even from left to right.

We'll just use the ribs in the bed liner to align it with and then we'll just draw a circle all the way around the rails. Then next we'll go ahead and use the legs of the fifth wheel hitch to place our second rail and now this will put our rail basically in the right stop and we'll just draw an outline around it as well and then the next step is go ahead and remove the parts for the fifth wheel and remove the bed liner and we can go ahead and cut out what we need. Before we make our cut outs we'll go ahead and support the bed liner up in the air a little bit with a couple pieces of timber. We'll go ahead and drill some pilot holes for a saw we're going to use to make the final cut out. So lets take our saw and we'll trace on the outside of our line and just cut it out.

Alright, and from this point we can go ahead with the fifth wheel install as normal.

Service was great and friendly. Price was very competitive. However, product information should have advised for special application for my 03 Dodge 3500, rear rail mounting brackets. No big deal, though I figured it out. Reese instructions could more detailed. I installed the hitch myself. All is good. Etrailer, will get more business from me. 156117

This hitch has a feature or two we didn't even expect. It was an easy install and is performing great. Plenty of maneuverability and rock stable. etrailer's service was incredible and stayed on top of the delivery until we got it. We thought they went the second mile to make sure we got our hitch. 707161

Best value for the money! I have used this hitch for a season now and I must say, it's worked out great. I use a Teflon plate with it and this hitch doesn't have much play in it going down the road. I have not had any issues with it sliding when locked. 606894

Installed on my 1996 GMC Dually. Very easy installation with the provided instructions. Very heavy duty rails and they fit my Reese hitch perfect. Would of been easier to do on a lift. 627807

Nice product very strong built installation was a little tough because having to cut bedliner. 610159

by:

The product was as good as the last two I have installed in my pickups. The removable gooseneck plate solves other use of bed problems, and give an opportunity to use both theFifth wheel and goose. The only problem I can see is if a slide in camper were used, there would need to be front and rear spacers. I have also used the rails as attachments points for a removable bed crane and a removable in bed winch. Sorry, no pics at this time 602825

Package was short a couple of lock washers but otherwise a very well presented kit. Installation went well although the drivers side of my Ford super duty was a pain where the fuel tank is right up against the frame. I took my time since the truck was not on a lift and working on the floor is not the best. All ended well. 591576

Ask the Experts about this Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit

  • Will the Reese Base Rail Kit # RP30035 from a 2015 F-150 Fit a 2016 F-250
So I do have some good news. The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 that you referenced is not compatible with your 2015 Ford F-150 as is. An extra bracket would be needed for the installation which you can see in the Kit # RP30035-31 on our site. In comparing both part numbers, if the extra bracket in the second kit looks like what you have on your F-150 then the dealership did the right thing. With that being said, the Kit # RP30035 is a confirmed fit for your...

  • Easier to Install 5th Wheel Hitch for 2015 Chevy Silverado Towing Lippert Turning Point Trailer
The Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel rail kit adapters can't be used with pivoting pin boxes like what your Grand Design Reflection 150 295RL has and since you have a short bed wouldn't be able to get by with locking out the pin box so that it no longer pivots with the Andersen. So your best option is going to be a fixed hitch that can break down into smaller sections like the B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200 which happens to be a bit lighter weight at 147 lbs with a standard rail kit like...

The first option and the best one is to obtain the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50087 which is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame whatsoever is required. Pro Series fifth wheel hitches fit industry-standard base rails so that is all you need to install in your 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I highly recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50026-58 because these are a vehicle-specific fit that will not require drilling into your truck's frame and will cut the installation time significantly. For a 2008 GMC Sierra, there are two recommended fifth wheel hitch install kits. A custom install kit is offered, part # RP50064-58 or a universal kit, part # RP30035. Although it is more expensive, I would urge you to go with the custom kit, as doing so can cut up to 50 percent off of the install time. Either kit is recommended regardless of the length of the truck bed. These install kits are compatible with Reese, Draw-Tite or Hidden Hitch, Curt or Valley fifth wheel hitches. Also,...

To install a fifth wheel hitch in the bed of your 2008 Chevy Silverado all you need is a fifth wheel rail kit. One route is to go with a universal kit like the part # RP30035 that has been confirmed as a fit for your truck. Or you can go with a custom install kit that will minimize drilling and install time like the part # RP50064-58. This would be the route I would recommend. • Do Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Rails have a Weight Capacity
The Reese base rails do not have a listed capacity because they are limited to the capacity of the truck. But you always go by the lowest rated component in the system. So if the truck had a gross trailer weight capacity of 15,000 pounds then that is the most you could tow even though the hitch is rated for 16,000 pounds. The reverse is also true, if the truck was rated for 18,000 pounds you would be limited to the 16K of the hitch.

With any truck, the fifth wheel trailer's king pin should be positioned directly above or just slightly ahead of the rear axle centerline.
