Video Transcript for Trimming a Truck Bed Liner for Fifth Wheel Rails

Today we're going to cover a frequently asked question on how to cut out a bed liner for a fifth wheel installation. It's pretty easy, we'll measure for our crossrails just like normal and then we'll go ahead and mark out our bed liner. Measuring from the edge of the bed of the truck, not the bed liner, but the edge of the bed and measure out. We'll go do one side, we'll go to the other side and make a mark as well. Now those will be the marks that'll align our first rail way. We'll make sure that our rail is even from left to right.

We'll just use the ribs in the bed liner to align it with and then we'll just draw a circle all the way around the rails. Then next we'll go ahead and use the legs of the fifth wheel hitch to place our second rail and now this will put our rail basically in the right stop and we'll just draw an outline around it as well and then the next step is go ahead and remove the parts for the fifth wheel and remove the bed liner and we can go ahead and cut out what we need. Before we make our cut outs we'll go ahead and support the bed liner up in the air a little bit with a couple pieces of timber. We'll go ahead and drill some pilot holes for a saw we're going to use to make the final cut out. So lets take our saw and we'll trace on the outside of our line and just cut it out.

Alright, and from this point we can go ahead with the fifth wheel install as normal.

Service was great and friendly. Price was very competitive. However, product information should have advised for special application for my 03 Dodge 3500, rear rail mounting brackets. No big deal, though I figured it out. Reese instructions could more detailed. I installed the hitch myself. All is good. Etrailer, will get more business from me. 156117

I'm satisfied with the hitch I bought, I liked the fact that I could type in my truck make and model to find out what hitch I needed.( I have a short bed) It brought up several for me to chose from and in different prices ranges that I could afford.. The product was shipped fast also. Thanks etrailer! 30248

The product was exactly what I order, and showed up at my house way quicker than what I thought it would. The instructions were very self explanatory the hardware and mounting brackets were all together. That makes it nice for instillation purposes. Thanks again!! 308567

1996 Ford F-150

I've had this system installed in my 1996 Ford F150 for a year now. I did the installation myself and found it to be relatively easy. I had to remove the rear tires to give better access to the frame, but after I did that drilling the needed holes and bolting in the brackets was straight foward. I use these rails with a gooseneck plate and have had no trouble pulling anything yet. 568266

Installed these rails with the short bed Reese bracket kit for 2015 or newer f150. Installation went well. Instructions were pretty straight forward but measurements from end of bed were not quite right and put the rails too far forward of the underbed brackets by about 2". I actually measured off the cross rails under the bed of the truck after I had installed the brackets. Helpful hint: after getting a hole drilled on either side of the front rail to secure it to brackets under bed, put the hitch on both rails which will line up the rear rail exactly right then drill the rest of your mounting holes. The included spacers are not quite thick enough and have come out from between the rails and bottom of the bed a few times even after I tightened bolts so much, bed started to bend. Have to find some other Shem's to make it tight enough. I would recommend these rails eventhough it took a little bit to get them in the right location. PS - Be very careful when drilling holes on driver side as you are right over the gas tank. 259709

I placed my order on Sunday, Mar. 6 and within 2 hours had three different confirmation of order emails. Didn't expect any feedback until Monday at the earliest. Received my order in hand Wednesday, Mar 9. Turn around time was great. I haven't had a chance to install yet, but have opened all packaging and everything looks just like it was described. Thank you so much. I will not hesitate to order again from you in the future! 9061

Appears to be well engineered and should provide safe towing. I do have one suggestion for improved customer satisfaction. Installation required a drill bit (17/32) that was unavailable anywhere near where I live, even at a local hardware store. I would have appreciated the option of purchasing the drill bit from etrailer and having it delivered with the rail kit. 378887

I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado 3500. The instructions were fine for most of the installation. At least one top bolt location had to be moved to match the frame. Two of the brackets required some cutting of plates on the frame to fit properly. One bracket bolt was a pain to get in because it was right behind the shock tower bracket. 17/32" drill bit was almost impossible to find. 133371

Follow instruction very easy to install. Works well with my hitch. Took more time reading instruction than installing on truck. Drilling whole in the bed of the truck wanted to make sure I understood what I was doing before drilling. Installed on a 93 Chevy Crew Cab Dually, long bed. Truck sat high enought that I did not have to raise it up or remove the tires whick cut down on the istallation time greatly. 82020

Thanks for the video I am a Tech and have never installed the 30035 kit. I was able to watch the video prior to install and this allowed me to get all the tools together and installed the rails with the hitch 30047 in about 2.5 hours. I think it is a great thing that you post these videos.... The truck I did was a 2007 F350 which was very similar to the 2004 F250 in the video... Thanks. RJ 4850

The kit arrived very quickly, in fact shipping was moved from "5 to 7 days" to "3 to 5 days"and arrived in 5 day. During Christmas rush this was great, and really appreciated. I ask a technician friend to install it for me. It went together very nicely. I am rating this as EXCELLENT, do to the ease of installation an the escallation of the shipping arrangement. Thank You for a great product and great service. LGK satisfied customer 111867

I just finished test fitting all the components of the system and found it very easy and enjoyable. The only problem I noticed was the packaging was far from robust enough to handle the product. Three of the four box's were severely damaged and were only held together by a mass amount of packing tape which made opening tough. I should have taken pictures my mistake, but wanted too make sure all components were present and accounted for which they were. Great system and was a pleasure to deal with, thanks for the great product and will sent pictures when installed in truck... 391532

I installed the kit on a 1997 Dodge 2500. Everything worked exactly as the instructions indicated for my model. I had an existing gooseneck hitch installed, so I needed to make a few modifications to install this kit, but everything worked great. 214640

purchased just the rails for 5th wheel receiver as we bought a used camper and the Reese Easy Loader came with it but owner did not want to remove rails from their truck. Technician was excellent in helping with installation and emailed us directions specific to my truck. Shipping was quick and install went well. We had room to use 12 bolts vs 10 so we did. We did install 1" forward in bed as we had room to do it. Better more forward when hauling. The knurled bolts were too short for our truck bed and we called and let them know. We had our own that were longer so no delay in install. 282744

Fantastic!! In fact we just removed the hitch for the first time and rails are no issue in truck bed. Easy ineasy out after rails installed.

I am very impressed with the fit and finish. Packaging from etrailer.com was inadequate. UPS man unloaded the package, rang the doorbell and drove away before I got outside. There was a lock washer laying on the ground and a bracket was hanging out of the box. We opened the package and inventoried everything, and to my amazement everything was there. Ordering process was very easy and my order shipped quickly. While on my lunch break at work I added 6 items to my cart and printed it so I could complete the order when I got home. About 4 hours later 3 of the 6 items increased in price. This hitch increased in price by $2, not a big deal I guess. I was able to find this item about $12 cheaper at another retailer and I provided this information to etrailer.com. Within a few hours they refunded me 110% of the difference. I am installing this on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed and the instructions are lacking. Maybe a professional installer who has done this many times would not have any problems, but the instructions leave some things to your imagination. 336456

Working great after one year of use. Use it to tow a 30 gooseneck trailer and it has worked as advertised. I bought a used 5th wheel hitch and although I have never used it, it fits perfectly in the rail system.

2006 Chevrolet Silverado

I installed this kit in my 2006 Silverado 2500HD to hold a Reese 16k sliding hitch. The kit is very well built and had more parts than required to complete the installation. Once installed, works great and am very pleased! The work itself is cumbersome and a couple things to be aware of. First, I squared and centered the rails as required. Before I drilled in the bed, I set the hitch in the rails and they moved slightly and had to recenter. This only tops a few minutes but I recommend setting the hitch in the rails before drilling. Second, the alignment for the front chassis brackets was challenging. You have to drill the bottom two bolt holes to ensure you can get a wrench in the nuts as the frame is enclosed there and reaching around the tank and brake lines. The instructions were not specific as to which holes to drill. 489582

- RP30035
by:

The rails are solid and work as expected. Unfortunately it was not clear to me from the description at that "universal" meant that you need to drill through the frame to install and that there was a custom bracket available as an alternative that lines up with existing holes in the frame. While they were very helpful and willing to do a return, the cost of shipping the new product and returning the old made the whole transaction a costly mistake. 106438

Im planing to buy the same rails for my dodge diesel 2005 full box but do not want to make the same mistake so what kind of bracket and are they a must or makes it safer? thanks

-- comment by: Sid - 12/31/2013

2496

The brackets are not necessarily safer, but they are easier to install. They require less, and in some cases, no drilling through the frame in order to install. For a 2005 Ram 2500 with 8 foot bed, you would use part RP50140-58. This kit includes the custom fit brackets that attach to the frame as well as the rails that sit in the bed of the truck where the fifth wheel secures. No matter what, you will need to drill through the bed on any of these kits. I have also included a link to a video of this kit being installed on a 2006 Ram.

I ordered this for a ford f150 and laid it out as specified, measurments and then re checked them to be sure of where i had to drill marked all holes as specified in the data information sheet drilled the bed holes and started to install the bolts 2 holes were miss identified and when i went to install the brackets they would not fit in correct position had to reverse the brackets to go inward instead of outward which was a pain inthe a-- to get in and tighten the nuts the 2 rearward bolts are drilled close to the emmison tank and neither one can be torqued let alone to the 85 ft pds trcommended the most rear is directlu above the tank and should be noted in the instructions as you cant see it unless on a hoist this is a saftey hazzard because a drill could go thru it and cause an explosion there should be a specific note to this problem i dare to say who ever wrote these instructions has never attempted to install one of these kits or he would be cusing himself a friend of mine recommended you people service and delivery were good but instructions and installation sucks thank and you have a good day 147975

The product was as good as the last two I have installed in my pickups. The removable gooseneck plate solves other use of bed problems, and give an opportunity to use both theFifth wheel and goose. The only problem I can see is if a slide in camper were used, there would need to be front and rear spacers. I have also used the rails as attachments points for a removable bed crane and a removable in bed winch. Sorry, no pics at this time 602825

These heavy mounts came with all the hardware and instructions for ford gm and dodge trucks. I installed them in a couple hours. More noteworthy though, was they arrived in a heavy duty box and were firmly fixed inside the box to keep them from moving around during shipping which was free. Any heavy parts I get from retailer arrive in a heavy duty mil spec container that actually protects the items I have purchased. AirLift air bag kit # AL88291 was designed specifically to work with B&W under bed mounts, such as # BWGNRK1108-5W, so you can have both on your 2005 Ford F-250 with 6-3/4 foot bed. But if you have a different AirLift kit then they are not compatible with each other. If you do have a different AirLift kit then the only way to install a 5th wheel trailer hitch would be to use the Reese universal installation kit # RP30035. The narrow L-brackets will be able...

  • 5th Wheel Mounting Brackets That Work with Airbags on a 2009 Ford F-250
  • I do have a way that may allow you to mount a set of 5th wheel base rails on your 2009 Ford F-350 while using your current airbag setup, however the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford part # C16448-204 will not work as the custom brackets included in this kit attach in the same location as your airbags. In order to mount a set of base rails on your vehicle while using your current airbags, you will want to use a universal installation kit like the Reese Universal Base...

  • Will Universal Reese Fifth Wheel Kit Fit 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • The brackets you send in a picture of looks to be a universal bracket kit that would fit both the trucks you mentioned. Based on the picture it actually looks like you have the Reese universal rail kit part # RP30035. I attached a picture that matches what you have in your picture. This would be a fit for your 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500. The hardware kit needs to be replaced since it's one time use. For that you would need part # RP58504.

  • Recommended Fifth-Wheel Hitch to Pair With Reese Revolution King Pin Hitch on 2015 Silverado 2500
  • There are a number of very good fifth-wheel hitches available for you to choose from, but their fit depends on the truck you have. In that regard, you will want to stay away from short-bed trucks, which you can classify as anything with a bed that is under 8 feet. The correct hitch is going to also depend on if you purchase a truck with a factory fifth-wheel prep package. Sliding hitches should not be used with the Revolution, and there are a few other fifth wheel hitches that are not...

  • Will the Reese Base Rail Kit # RP30035 from a 2015 F-150 Fit a 2016 F-250
  • So I do have some good news. The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 that you referenced is not compatible with your 2015 Ford F-150 as is. An extra bracket would be needed for the installation which you can see in the Kit # RP30035-31 on our site. In comparing both part numbers, if the extra bracket in the second kit looks like what you have on your F-150 then the dealership did the right thing. With that being said, the Kit # RP30035 is a confirmed fit for your...

  • Base Rails and Installation Kit for 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty and Pro Series 5th Wheel Hitch
  • Pro Series fifth wheel hitches fit industry-standard base rails so that is all you need to install in your 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I highly recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50026-58 because these are a vehicle-specific fit that will not require drilling into your truck's frame and will cut the installation time significantly. The other option are the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 which does require you to drill...

  • Is there a Base Rail Kit Compatible with Reese 5th Wheel Hitch 30023 on 2014 Ford F-350
  • The discontinued Reese 30023 5th wheel hitch you have is not compatible with the industry standard rails. Unfortunately the rails for that hitch are no longer available so you will need to upgrade your hitch or use your old rails. I've attached photos to assist. My recommendation is to upgrade your hitch so I've linked the page to all your options. I then recommend using the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50026-58. This...

  • Will the Reese Installation Kit RP30035 Work with the Lil-Rocker 15K on a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • Yes, the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit part # RP30035 will allow you to use the RBW Lil-Rocker 15K 5th Wheel Hitch on your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. This kit however requires drilling so if that is not something that you want to do then you will need to use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit part # RP50064-58. I have attached a photo that shows the measurements that you need for the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit.

  • Why Does Husky Custom Base Rail Kit # HT31404-686 Require Frame Drilling on 2002 Ram
  • The Husky Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit # HT31404-686 referenced in your question, while confirmed to fit your 2002 Dodge Ram 2500/3500, does still require some drilling into the frame rails. Husky lists this as a custom kit because even though drilling is still needed it does provide a more specific and shorter install time than universal kits because of the bracket design. Just for reference the estimated install time for the Husky kit is 4-1/2 hours while the Universal Rail...

  • The Reese Universal Fifth Wheel Rail kit part # RP30035 will fit with the Anderen Ultimate part # AM3200 that you have and would be a fit for your 2015 Ford F-350 long bed. That being said I would recommend a custom fit rail kit part # RP50026-58 instead for your truck as this is as custom fit kit that will minimize drilling and install time.

  • The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 referenced in your question is a universal application and is confirmed to fit your 2015 Ford F-250 with a 6-3/4 foot bed.
