Video Transcript for Trimming a Truck Bed Liner for Fifth Wheel Rails

Today we're going to cover a frequently asked question on how to cut out a bed liner for a fifth wheel installation. It's pretty easy, we'll measure for our crossrails just like normal and then we'll go ahead and mark out our bed liner. Measuring from the edge of the bed of the truck, not the bed liner, but the edge of the bed and measure out. We'll go do one side, we'll go to the other side and make a mark as well. Now those will be the marks that'll align our first rail way. We'll make sure that our rail is even from left to right.

We'll just use the ribs in the bed liner to align it with and then we'll just draw a circle all the way around the rails. Then next we'll go ahead and use the legs of the fifth wheel hitch to place our second rail and now this will put our rail basically in the right stop and we'll just draw an outline around it as well and then the next step is go ahead and remove the parts for the fifth wheel and remove the bed liner and we can go ahead and cut out what we need. Before we make our cut outs we'll go ahead and support the bed liner up in the air a little bit with a couple pieces of timber. We'll go ahead and drill some pilot holes for a saw we're going to use to make the final cut out. So lets take our saw and we'll trace on the outside of our line and just cut it out.

Alright, and from this point we can go ahead with the fifth wheel install as normal.

Service was great and friendly. Price was very competitive. However, product information should have advised for special application for my 03 Dodge 3500, rear rail mounting brackets. No big deal, though I figured it out. Reese instructions could more detailed. I installed the hitch myself. All is good. Etrailer, will get more business from me. 156117

Best value for the money! I have used this hitch for a season now and I must say, it's worked out great. I use a Teflon plate with it and this hitch doesn't have much play in it going down the road. I have not had any issues with it sliding when locked. 606894

This hitch has a feature or two we didn't even expect. It was an easy install and is performing great. Plenty of maneuverability and rock stable. etrailer's service was incredible and stayed on top of the delivery until we got it. We thought they went the second mile to make sure we got our hitch. 707161

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Info for Towing a 2007 Forest River Signature with a 2009 GMC Sierra 5-1/2 Ft Bed
For your 2009 GMC Sierra 5-1/2 Ft Bed pickup, I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 20,000 lbs, item # RP30081, along with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, item # RP50064-58. You will then need a Sidewinder pin box for your 2007 Forest River Signature Fifth-Wheel RV, so that you can tow the RV and have clearance for turning between the trailer loft and the cab of the vehicle. Slider hitches do not provide sufficient clearance for maneuvering with...

  • Will the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit Fit a 2018 Ford F-150
I have two options for you to use part of the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP30035 that you have now. The first option and the best one is to obtain the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50087 which is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame whatsoever is required. The other option if you don't mind drilling to save a bit of money would be to use the Reese Mounting Bracket Kit for 5th...

  • Low Cost Fifth Wheel Hitch and Base Rails for 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500
We can get you a low-cost 5th wheel hitch and base rails with installation kit for your 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 but since you have a short bed you will need a sliding fifth wheel hitch and the kit you mentioned has a fixed hitch. Please keep in mind that sliding hitches cost more than fixed hitches due to them having moving parts, but it is needed so the fifth wheel doesn't crash into your cab when turning, which would of course cost more. So the lowest-cost option that will work...

  • Easier to Install 5th Wheel Hitch for 2015 Chevy Silverado Towing Lippert Turning Point Trailer
The Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel rail kit adapters can't be used with pivoting pin boxes like what your Grand Design Reflection 150 295RL has and since you have a short bed wouldn't be able to get by with locking out the pin box so that it no longer pivots with the Andersen. So your best option is going to be a fixed hitch that can break down into smaller sections like the B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200 which happens to be a bit lighter weight at 147 lbs with a standard rail kit like...

I highly recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50026-58 because these are a vehicle-specific fit that will not require drilling into your truck's frame and will cut the installation time significantly. This is a custom installation kit that utilized pre-drilleld holes iin the frame for a roughly 30% quicker installation versus a universal install kit like the # RP30035.
