2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

The installation of this to my 2011 Ram 1500 was almost flawless; I used the "10 Bolt Base Rail #30686 with my installation. Overall, it took me about 3-1/2 hours to install this. The amount of time needed to install this was way better than I had figured, 3-1/2 hours. I had read thru the installation instructions twice to make sure I was well acquainted with what I was to accomplish/do; good thing I did, too. In addition to what "Husky" says you'll need, you will be better off by having a flashlight, a 3/4" crow's foot, and at least one (1) 6" extension for your socket. The written directions were a bit vague in a few steps and I had to do some double checking of what they wanted the "Installer" to do in order to clarify the desired end result. Like when to drill the 1/4" pilot hole and then the 3/4" hole drilled in the bed floor. The 1/4" hole isn't even a "Step", let alone a "Note", and at first I missed it. By Step 3 I discovered that I'd missed drilling the hole. Not to nit-pick, but, the measuring distance could be better; the left arrow is past the line that I eventually figured was where I needed to measure too. I had already removed the inner plastic wheel well liner from the driver's side and removed the passenger's side before I began all together (Step #8); this makes it much easier to see the wiring harness and brake lines on the driver's side that is being referenced to careful of when drilling the 1/4" pilot hole. The reference to "the hat section" was a bit confusing until I read step 13 which references figure #10. The rear rail brackets have a different challenge of their own and the "Pull Wire" proved to be extremely valuable to fish the two carriage bolts, and spacer, into the necessary frame hole. Before you do this though you'll need to undo the ground wire so that you have the slack to move the wiring harness out of the way when you install the bracket here (Driver's Side Only). Because of the support leg that lefts the bracket into place on top of the frame, you WON"T be able to pull the bolt through the hole and the put the bracket into place. Feed the "Pull Wire through the bottom hole and then pull the bolt into place. The carriage bolt heads were too big for the frame holes in the instructions, however there is a larger round hole further back in the bottom of the frame that allowed me to accomplish what I needed. The tail pipe get in the way to tighten the 1/2" bolts on the passenger side rear bracket; I used a crow's foot; you'll need the crow's foot for the bottom nut for the U-Bolt on the Driver's Side, the one by the fuel tank. For the rail bolt, I found a sneak thru to tighten it; between the tail pipe and shield (see the photo) that's straight up, but, you'll need at least a long extension or two. The only problem that I encountered was when I had finished, the "ABS System" and "Brake Warning Lights" stayed on after the computer did it's initial start up. Turned out, I missed the washer pinching the wiring harness above the fuel tank when I began to tighten things up; good thing I hadn't torqued these yet (I missed them). After checking the area I found the problem and corrected it. Problem solved: only one wire was partially damaged and I fixed that immediately. 396812

I remember writing about this installation. I still have this and actually had to transfer it to my newer Ram. I remembered the hiccups and was able to reinstall the assembly without incident. Even with my new truck this is great.

Ask the Experts about this Husky Fifth Wheel Installation Kit

  • Location of Fifth Wheel Base Rails on a 2010 Dodge Ram 5 Ft 7 In Bed
Assuming that you're using the Husky # HT31566-686 fifth wheel install kit you referred to, the rear edge of the front bed rail would be 48-7/16 inches forward of the rear edge of the bed (not the rear edge of the tailgate.) The hitch itself will help you place the rearmost rail. I've provided a diagram from the installation instructions for you to look over. If you'd like to install a 7-way trailer connector in the bed of your truck, you can do so using part # 41157. I'll link you to...

  • Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Ram 1500 Short Bed for Turning Clearance
So you are correct and you do need 6 inches of clearance between the bed rails and the overhang of your trailer when it is sitting level. To accomplish this you will need to adjust the pin box height as well as the hitch head height. I really can't recommend a height for the pin box from my point of view. You will have to get a hitch first and test fit it to see how level it sits when under a load and adjust as needed. For your 6 foot bed 2017 Ram 1500 the Husky Rail Kit part # HT31566-686...

  • Husky Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2017 Ram 1500
For your 2017 Ram 1500 the only fifth wheel rail kit we offer from Husky is the part # HT31566-686 which is a confirmed custom fit for your truck. The kit you mentioned is a universal kit that has not been test fit on your truck. None of the universal style rail kits we offer are a fit for your truck actually.

  • Parts Needed To Mount Husky 5th Wheel Hitch On 2013 Dodge Ram
In order to mount a Husky 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2013 Dodge Ram you can use the Husky Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # HT31566-686 for 1500 models or part # HT32084-686 for 2500 models which is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame is required. I also recommend the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness part # 50-97-410. The installation instructions will be attached below.

  • 5th Wheel Base Rail and Installation Kit for 2015 Ram 1500 With 5-1/2 Foot Bed
We do have a 5th wheel base rail and installation kit that fits your 2015 Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot bed, but the part you referenced will not fit. Since you asked about Husky, if you wanted that brand, the correct fit for your truck is the Husky Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # HT31566-686. I highly recommend this option as it is the most economical custom kit, which means no drilling in your truck's frame to install. However, if you wanted the less expensive option (which would...

  • No-Drill 5th Wheel Hitch Bracket/Industry Standard Rail Kit for 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Short Bed
Assuming you have the gas engine, for a industry standard 5th wheel bracket/bed rail install kit that won't require drilling into the truck frame I'd recommend the Reese # RP50142-58. A less expensive no-drill option would be the Husky Towing # HT31566-686. We offer air springs that install into the factory coil springs such as the Air Lift # AL60818HD, but the hitch frame brackets would prevent you from installing a typical air spring set up like the Air Lift Load Lifter # AL57365. • Which Husky Towing Products Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Kit for 2012 Dodge Ram Long Bed
If your Ram is a 2500 or 3500 series, the HT31413-686 is the correct install kit. For a 1500 series, you would need the # HT31566-686. Installation instructions are indeed included with the install kit, and the instructions do feature dimensions for where the bed rails are placed and exactly where holes are drilled. Per Husky Towing, the # HT31413-686 is compatible with all 2500 and 3500 models of the 2012 Ram with the 6 foot 4 inch bed. For a 1500 model with the 8 or 6 foot 4 inch bed, use # HT31566-686. The bed rails included with with either kit use industry-standard hole spacing, and would be compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Reese and Valley fifth wheel hitches.
