Simple Removal for Full Bed Access

B&W Companion Simple Removal

With the Companion from B&W, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to the included Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work. When you're done towing, the entire hitch can be removed for complete bed access.

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

The included Turnoverball serves as a sturdy, custom base for installing the Companion in the bed of your truck, but it's also one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Assembly of the B&W Companion

To install the Companion, first bolt the included RV post to the Companion's base. This post is what inserts into the hole in your truck bed. The RV post attaches to the base in 1 of 2 ways to allow for improved cab clearance and proper positioning over your truck's axle.

The next step is to set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

Companion 3500 Base Diagram

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Options for a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali
Since your 2015 GMC 2500 has the 6-1/2 foot bed you will want to go with a sliding 5th wheel hitch. There are a couple of different options that you can go with here. If you are wanting to go with a 5th wheel hitch that uses the standard base rails then I recommend going with the Curt A20 # C16541 along with Base Rails Kit # RP50066-58. This 5th wheel hitch is one of the best hitches that we currently carry due to the dual-jaw system and the pivoting head to help secure the king pin and...

  • 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500 6.5 Bed Puck System Recommendations
I do have a few options for you to add an underbed kit on your 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500 6-1/2' bed and the real differential is the style you are looking for. For a true 4-point puck system you need the Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Hitch # RP30158-68. This is closer to the OEM puck system style for your truck and you will need the Rail Adapter # RP30156 to connect your 16K Husky slider to this system. I personally like this system best because it gives you a wider variety of options. We...

Yes, the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400, which uses the Base # BWRVB3405 you referenced, will fit the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1012-5W for your 2015 GMC Sierra 2500. This is one of my favorite towing setups because you gain the ability to tow either a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer, the installation looks really clean, and it's all made here in the USA! The only other thing I recommend checking out if you don't already have it is a 7-Way wiring kit for your truck bed. Installing...

  • Replacing B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck with Under Bed Rails and a B&W 18K 5th Wheel Hitch
Yes, you can remove the B&W Turnover Ball Hitch # BWGNRK1012-5W and install bed rails, # BWRVK2506, and the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch 18K, # BWRVK3255. The only issue that you will have on you 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 will be the remaining holes in the bed from the gooseneck hitch. The only 5th wheel hitch that we have that is compatible with your 1989 Ford F250 Super Cab 3/4 T 4x4 8 ft. bed with lift springs and uses below bed rails is the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. If you mean Overload springs when you say lift springs then the correct below bed installation kit is the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1110-5W. If you do not have Overload springs then the correct install kit is the Custom...

  • Availability Of Aftermarket Or OEM Puck System FOr A 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500
The only puck system available for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 is the OEM puck system which is only available from Chevy. It is not available aftermarket. We do have options for both fifth wheel and gooseneck mounts, but nothing quite like the OEM puck system. Our most similar option is the B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1020-5W and Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. The companion hitch mounts into the receptacle for the gooseneck ball. This allows for full bed access with the fifth...

  • I Own A 2017 Ram 2500 with No Factory Installed Puck System Do You Sell An Aftermarket System?
The factory puck system that was available for your 2017 Ram 2500 is integrated into the frame and cannot be installed as an aftermarket part. There are some underbed mounted fifth wheel hitch install kits but as of right now none of them install a puck system. The only underbed kit available for your Ram is the B&W, part # BWGNRK1384-5W, that uses the B&W companion hitch, part # BWRVK3400-5W. (I have a picture attached that will show how this will look installed on your bed.) The Custom...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2022 Ford F-250 With A Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover
Hello David. I can definitely help point you in the right direction. Does your 2022 F250 have the OEM 5th wheel prep package in the bed? Post in the comments below and let me know because that will be a major deciding factor in selecting a hitch. If you do have the OEM prep package, you will have a lot of options for a hitch that will fit in the 18" deep bed with a tri-fold tonneau on top. My recommendation is the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3300....

  • Will Current B&W Head Fit B&W RVK3000 Base
The # BWRVC3200 you were looking at will not fit since it is designed for the Patriot. The Patriot and Companion are not interchangeable. However, you can add the Replacement Head Assembly for B&W Companion # BWRVC3006. It has an even higher rating but you will be limited by the capacity of the base. It will be the same height as what you have now.

  • Will My B&W Companion Hitch Work In My New Chevy 3500?
That completely depends on what style of Companion hitch you have. If your Companion hitch was made for the 2020-2024 GMC/Chevy puck system such as the # BWRVK3710, you can easily transfer it to the new Chevy 3500, provided the truck has the OEM fifth wheel puck system (not just the gooseneck). If your companion hitch was made to be used with the B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch, like part # BWRVK3500-5W, it can only be used with the B&W Turnoverball hitch and it will not work with the...

  • Troubleshooting Jerking/Lunging When Towing Trailer that Has Andersen Fifth Wheel Gooseneck Adapter
What you described sounds like chucking. Chucking is the sound you are describing that comes from the moving parts of the hitch. When you start and stop the play moves back and forth and causes the sound you are hearing. Since you are using a fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter it's not overly surprising that you are having issues with chucking. The only real solutions would be to upgrade to a hitch that is cushioned and has a jaw system that provides better king pin contact to reduce...

  • Recommended B&W Companion Hitch for a Hillsboro Flatbed
Hey Joe, thanks for the information! That Hillsboro flatbed with the B&W setup is cool. I hadn't actually seen one of those. You're definitely going to want the B&W Companion Flatbed Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter item # BWRVK3050. It's literally the 5th wheel hitch Hillsboro uses on their website pictures. The B&W Companion Flatbed item # BWRVK3050 sits only 10-1/2" above the deck height of the flat bed truck it is installed in. This is compared to the B&W Companion 5th...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Rails in 2008 Ford F-350
The B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck # BWGNRK1108-5W also serves as the underbed rails for the B&W Companion and does not fit other fifth wheel hitches. Don't let the lack of options dissuade you though because this is the fifth wheel hitch I would recommend for you even if you did not already have the base rails because the Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available and height should not be an issue because it can adjust from between 16-1/4" to 18-1/4"....

  • Installation of B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck on 2001 Ford F-350
The Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1108-5W is a great gooseneck system and is also a really nice combination with the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W on your 2001 Ford F-350. For this installation, you will need to slightly lower the exhaust and remove the heat shield as you mentioned. You will reinstall the heat shield so there won't be any issues with heat transfer. I double checked this with the manufacturer. Because...

  • Torque Specs for the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch
Kenny, those bolts for the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W should be torqued to 40 ft. lbs. Also, the pivot arms would need to be torqued to 80 ft. lbs, the draw down bolt should be tighten to 60 ft.lbs and the arms should be tightened to 110 ft. lbs.

  • What are Dimensions of Puck Kit in 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500
Hey Tony, the GM rail kit that your 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500 could have had would have 22 inches from front to back and 27 inches from left to right like what you can see in the attached picture. Is there anyway you could email me a picture of the pucks? You might get under the bed of the truck and see if you can see a brand on the brackets.

  • Are the Locations of the 5th Wheel Jaw and Gooseneck Hitch Ball the Same
Hey Dwight! Yes-ish. The gooseneck hitch ball and 5th wheel jaw system will sit in pretty much the same area, right above or behind the rear axle of your truck. There isn't an exact formula for either setup so it won't be lined up directly each time. Is there an specific reason you're asking so I can add some more insight?

  • Handles on Ford OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Will Not Close with Pucks on a 2008 Ford F-250/350
The factory puck system was not offered on Ford trucks until 2011 so what you have is likely the older Reese Signature Series which is very similar. However, as you have come to find out the old Reese Signature Series pucks are not the same as the new Reese Elite Series pucks which is why you are having issues. Unfortunately, they do not make any adapters or new bolts for this so your best option would be to obtain the Reese Elite Series Underbed Mounting System, part # RP30073. This will...

  • Will the B&W Companion From a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Fit a 2020-2022 Silverado 3500
The answer to your question will depend on which B&W Companion you have and whether or not you have the OEM prep package right now or not. I also don't know which bed size you have but I will assume it will remain the same between the old and new trucks since the short bed needs the slider and the long bed needs the fixed hitch. If you currently have the OEM prep package on your 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 then you will be able to use the head for the hitch for a 2020-2022 Silverado...

  • Recommended Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Hitch Adapter for a 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 with B&W Gooseneck
We actually have quite a few products that you can use as a 5th Wheel to Gooseneck adapter, I am linking the product selection page so you can view the different options to see what you might like. Unfortunately we do not offer any replacement pin boxes that are compatible with your RBW 7028 pin box. Although we have many options, there are a few choices that are much better than other options. Since you have a short bed, the recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for you would be a sliding 5th...

  • Comparing The Reese Goose Box And Versus A Pin Box And 5th Wheel Hitch For Ride Quality
Hey Mark, So Bud is correct but the Reese Goose Box # RP94716 is designed with a gas shock and air spring to provide a more comfortable ride. If it were a standard gooseneck hitch without any cushioning then yes, you would have ride quality issues. Owners of the # RP94716 praise the difference this pin box makes in ride quality, but the air chuck location is less than ideal on this model. It's on the bottom of the box so some people have a hard time connecting to it once coupled to...

  • Plastic Foot Pads Of B & W Companion Not Allowing The Post Pin To Engage
I believe you are asking about the plastic foot pads that come with the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3500-5W that fit into the corrugated lines of the bed to give you a better fit. These foot pads are only manufactured by B&W for the BWRVK3500-5W hitch that fits any truck with the turnover ball. If this is what you are referring to then the biggest reason that the pin will not engage with the use of the foot pads is because the truck has a bed liner. If you have anything...
