Question:
Ive ordered a BandW Companion Slider Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch product code BWRVK3400 for my 2013 Silverado 2500HD short box. Do you have a recommendation on which mounting holes to use when installing the pivot arms? Im particularly concerned about the proper location of the hitch in relation to the rear axle.

Helpful Expert Reply:
When the B and W installation kit # BWGNRK1012-5W is installed for the Companion hitch, the center of the ball hole will be 44-3/4 inches forward of the rear edge of the bed on your 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD short bed.
This will tell you where the center of the hitch will be once installed. Companion hitch # BWRVK3400-5W and # BWRVK3400 are sliders. They have 12 inches of travel allowing you to making tighter turns unlike the fixed hitch version that allows you to move the head further forward or back.
When towing the trailer you will need to have the hitch in the towing position so that the pin weight of the trailer is not behind the rear axle of the truck. But when making tight maneuvers, you can have the pin weight temporarily further back.
