Tail Light T Connector Diagram

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Dodge Journey

Today on our 2017 Dodge Journey, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One vehicle wiring harness with four pole flat trailer connector, part number 118536. So here's what our wiring looks like when it's fully installed. It is going to stay on the outside of the vehicle, and tit's to provide us a four pole flat trailer connector. Now it is going to provide us with all the required lights to get down the road, such as our clearance lights, turn signals, and brake lights. The dustcover, we can actually use it to attach to our hitch so therefore it's ready whenever we're ready to tow. Now that we know what it looks like once it's installed, let's show you how we got it there. To begin our installation, we're going to have to come to our rear hatch and open it up so we can gain access to our taillights. Now, each one of our taillights are going to be held in by two push pin fasteners and we're going to be using a flathead screwdriver to take them out.

Now, you'll notice that there's a small notch on either side, and that's where we're going to want to pry this center section out from. We can grab the center section and possibly the whole clip comes out, but if not it will come out enough that we can grab it and pull it out. We're going to repeat that for the other three fasteners. We're going to want to grab our taillight, and we're going to want to pull straight back. If it doesn't want to release, maybe give it a little bit of a wiggle, but you don't want to go too much to the side. There's going to be a couple clips holding it in place.

Now that we have it released, we're go ahead and release our turn signal and brake light sockets, pushing in on this tab and pulling outward. For this one up here, we're actually going to have to lift up on that tab and pull out. Then we're going to go ahead and do the same thing on the other side, as well. Before we make our connections, I'd like to give you an overview of where all the wires are going to go. Our yellow wire is going to be going over to the driver's side, and that's going to be for our left turn signal. The red and brown wire here is going to be for our brake and taillight signal, and then our green T-connector is going to be for the right side.

Our white wire is going to be for our ground. Now you'll also notice that we have a black wire that has the end stripped off of it, and that's where we're going to be sending this up to the battery to get power for our convertor box. Now before I start putting everything in place, I am going go ahead and crimp on the extra wire they provide in our kit, that way I don't have to fish out the wire from here and try to make the connection later. Now in our kit they do provide us with some butt connectors, but I'm going to be replacing these with some heat shrink butt connectors, and that's just going to help give us better protection against moisture buildup and corrosion. I'm going to go ahead and take the black wire coming out of my convertor box, slide it into my butt connector, and crimp it down. Now I'm going to take the wire they provide in our kit and I'm going to strip back one end of it, and then I can attach it to the other side of the butt connector coming off the convertor box. I'm going to be using a heat gun to shrink down my connector.

I just want to mention that if you are using a lighter or an open flame, you want to be extra careful not to char the connector or the wire itself. We're going to start by taking our green wire with the two connectors and we're going to drop them down until they reach the floor. The reason why is because this is going to go over to the passenger side and the convertor box as well as the other few components are going to be staying on the driver's side. We're going to take our four pole flat trailer connector end and slide that down as well. And then finally we're going to be sliding down the black wire that we attached with the butt connector earlier. There is quite a bit of black wire so I'm going to take it a little by a little until I can reach through the bottom and start pulling it through. We can go ahead and start with our yellow wire. We're going to have a male and a female plug. We're going to take the male plug that looks like the one on the back of our taillight and we're going to plug it into the vehicle's harness. We'll take our brown and red wire now and again we're going to have a female and a male, and the female is going to plug in. Make sure it locks in place. So we should have a white wire with a ring terminal attached left here on the left side. This is going to be for our ground. We're going to find a clean service, and we're going to take this self tapping screw and secure it down. Now right here seems like a good spot since it's going to be out of the way and behind the taillight. I'll take my self tapping screw and secure it down. We're going to bring our focus on the four pole flat trailer connector wire and our green wire. The four pole flat trailer connector, I'm going to leave at the center where my hitch is, and the green wire I'm going to take all the way over to the passenger side. You just want to be careful around the exhaust here or any moving parts. You want to try to stay away from any heat sources. We're going to have to get our T-connector up to our taillight. The way I'm going to do it is I'm going to take a piece of airline tube that I had lying around and I'm actually going to start feeding it up until I can see that it's coming out the top of my taillight up there. I'm going to take the other end with my T-connector and I'm actually going to tape it to my airline tube there, and then we can go back up top and we can start pulling it through. We can go ahead and pull the tape off and remove the airline tube, and get ready to make our connections. These are going to be the same as on the driver's side, except we're only going to have the one connector to connect, so we can go ahead and take our connector, plug it in, make sure it locks in. Now we can start going back down underneath and running our charge line. Everybody's going to route this wire a little bit differently. Like I mentioned before, you just want to stay away from any heat sources or any moving parts. So I'm going to go ahead and run my wire and then I'll show you how I routed it. I routed my wire over the muffler hanger, then I came back, going over the rear axle, zip tying it along the way. I came down right by my fuel tank and then I followed my emergency brake cable around the side of the frame rail, and then finally I have it stopping right here. Now we're going to need to go up to the engine bay and we're going to use the same type of method to get this up to the top. Again, I'm going to take my airline tube, and we're going to route it down. Again, you want to make sure you stay away from any heat sources and try to stay away from the moving parts so it doesn't damage the wire. Then I'm going to drop this down so I can reach my black charge wire and bring it up to the battery. Here's where the airline tube came out. I'm actually going to take my black wire, I'm going to put it into the airline tube so we can go ahead and move back up top and start pulling it through. We start pulling our wire up, and once we get it up here you want to make sure that you pull all the excess wire out, and it never hurts to take a peek underneath and make sure that the wire didn't get wadded up, preventing you from pulling all the slack out. Our black wire is going to have to run to the positive post on our battery, so I'm going to estimate just about how much we need. This should be plenty, so I'm going to go ahead and cut it back right here. I'm going to go ahead and strip back the end of the wire, and I'm going to take another one of my yellow heat shrink butt connectors and crimp it in place. Our wire system is fuse protected, so I'm going to take the fuse holder and the wire is just one big loop so I'm going to go ahead and cut it in half. Now that it's cut, I'm going to go ahead and strip both ends. Now, on one end of my fuse holder, I'm going to put it into the other end of the butt connector that my charge line came from. Now, on the other end, our kit comes from a ring terminal. I'm going to go ahead and slide that over the stripped wire and crimp it into place. We're going to have a 12 volt power source right here, so we're going to need to remove that nut so we can slide the ring terminal over. We're going to be using a 15 mm socket to remove that nut. We can take our ring terminal, slide it over the post, and then reinstall the nut. Now we can take our provided 15 amp fuse and put it into our fuse holder. Now all we have left to do is tidy up any wires we left loose as well as putting the taillights back in place. Before we can put our taillight back, we are going to have to mount our convertor box. There should be some double sided foam tape already pre-installed on the back of the box. I'm going to go ahead and peel the backing off of it. I'm going to slide it down in between the bumper and the body of my car, and I'm actually going to route it down just slightly and firmly push it against the body right here, that way it's out of the way of the taillight but it's also going to be out of the way of any water coming up from underneath. Now we're going to take the remaining connectors. They're going to match up with our taillights. We can go ahead and plug them in. Just want to make sure everything locks and is secure, and then we can reinstall our taillights. Just want to tuck the excess wire out of the way, make sure it's not going to interfere with anything, line up the tabs and then we can push our taillight back in place. All my excess four pole wire I'm actually going to tie up behind my hitch here and use the zip tie in the kit to keep it from coming down. Now all we have left to do is test our wiring. I'm going to plug in my four pole tester. If you don't have one of these you can pick one up on our website using part number I26. I'm going to grab an extra set of hands so they can run my lights so I can verify that they're working properly. Can you turn on the headlights, please Looks good. Now the left turn signal Good. The right turn signal And the brakes Now the brakes and both turn signals, please Looks like everything is working great. We're ready to hit the road. That will finish up our look at the Tekonsha T-One vehicle wiring harness with four pole flat trailer connector, part number 118536, on our 2017 Dodge Journey.

I like that it plugs into the back of the light socket without having to cut wires - I would hate to cut into the wires of a 1 month old vehicle. One error in my instructions - the power wire on my module is black, not red as in the instructions. Easy enough to figure out since it was the only wire left. I installed mine differently than instructions, kept the all wiring and the module inside the vehicle, that way its not exposed to the elements. By removing the bottom sill cover, and prying back interior panels, I was able to push wiring through the body to the taillights. I fed the flat 4 into the bottom and coiled it where the jack stores. Can just pull the flat 4 cable out and route it under the hatch when I need to pull trailer. I also used the rear cigarette lighter/power outlet as a power source, rather than route a wire to the front. I had to cut into the pink wire and use a butt connector to do this. It wouldn't carry as much current as running a separate wire, but it worked when I tested it. 401228

I’m holding back on 5 stars. Kit is easy enough if your experience level is there. With 30+ years of Automotive work I really had no issues. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars is the kit should include one additional item. 3m and others make great little sticky back attachments for zip ties, this kit should have at least 8-10 to properly attach the wiring. Just to many areas that my Dodge Journey lacked good attachment points. Etrailer, Pricing, shipping and informative videos are great 5 stars there 603981

Wiring harness worked fine once I got it installed. The online videos are a grea resource to follow and I frequently ran from the garage to my computer as I went through each step. Since I was doing this in my home garage without the ability to put the car up on a lift like in the video, running the wires underneath up to the battery was a bit of a trick since I couldn't fit 2 arms up most of the time (got pretty good at fastening zip-ties one handed, which is harder than it sounds), but I was able to eventually get it completed. 376345

This is a product review of the T-one Wiring Harness- 118536 Installation on a 2015 Dodge Journey Crossroad (with LED Lights) The package is complete and seems well made and installs straight forward just as in the well made video (highly recommend). I do have a couple of complaints/recommendations: 1. Include A LOT more zip ties. Its a long way to the engine compartment. 2. The powered black wire should come pre-spliced correctly soldered and shrink wrapped rather than a butt splice by the installer. 3. The method and location for the control box mounting that is intended to be adhered with double stick tape is NOT well designed. There is better mounting space further down the cavity from the tail light assembly. There is much better access from below the bumper. 4. Lastly- this is a rant on Dodge. Shame on them for requiring this kind of cobble kit that should be part of the factory wiring!!! Routing the power wire up to the engine compartment is not so simple to route cleanly and keep away from the exhaust. Knowing what I know now, I would look into the possibility of tapping into a closer spare or capable 12V+ circuit that is closer. 177767

went together very easy. I did add wire and passed it through a plug into the jack storage area so the connector is now hidden and not exposed to elements. 728458

Very easy to install. Only issue I had with item is that they do not provide enough zip ties and the butt connectors are not heat shrink. Living in Wisconsin they need to be due the salt in the winter. Would recommend either way! 723347

Product had been working fine. I hard wired it into a 7-way tow vehicle end and use the 7-way for towing. Installation was easy. I had more trouble locating the correct wire for the Backup light circuit which was a separate wire from this harness. I also ran a 12-V fused hot wire from my battery to the rear of the vehicle for inclusion into the 7-way connector. Most of this wiring harness is hidden, so no pictures are available of the installation. 722117

I ordered both a trailer hitch & wiring harness which I received in a very timely way. I installed the hitch per there instructions with easier than expected results. I then went to install the harness only to find out I ordered the wrong one. I phoned etrailer & was connected to a friendly employee named Ashley, I told her my problem she got me the correct harness & gave me instructions how to return my incorrect one. I did all this and installed my new harness again with ease. Thus I highly recommend doing business with this company. 721604

It was real easy to put together I literally had everything working in less then an hr. The hardest part was figuring out where to hang the wires so they don’t just hang down. Other than that it was easy. You don’t have to splice any wires or anything. The video is just like it says. Awesome. I definitely recommend this product. And Noea was very helpful at ordering what I needed. Thanks Noea. 677511

Straightforward installation for my 2015 Journey. Video instructions were accurate. The only misstep is the sticky tape on the control module. There's a lot of dust and dirt in those light bays. Clean the area well, and plan on needing some additional adhesive, beyond the included double sided stuff. 671456

A good well made harness, supported by detailed step-by-step how-to videos which are a great help. Harness had plenty of wire length for correct routing. Many additional strap ties were required, but that was as expected. What sets this harness apart is the additional power it provides for the lighting. After some comparison shopping, this was by far the best available. My one suggestion would be to make absolutely sure you're providing a fail safe ground at the power module. Thoroughly grind off the paint from the surface on which the ground screw is to be mounted. The method illustrated in the videos may not be enough to insure a sufficient ground. Hope this helps. 670131

  • How to Tell if 2018 Dodge Journey Has LED or Incandescent Tail Lights
The easiest way to determine if you have LED or incandescent lights on your Dodge Journey is to simply watch them illuminate and turn off. If they come on immediately and turn off immediately then they are most likely LEDs. LEDs will also be quite a bit brighter and almost painful to look at directly. If instead you can see a bit of a transition both when coming on and turning off and the light is a bit duller, you have incandescent bulbs. If you are still unsure I recommend simply...

  • How to Tap Into the Reverse Light Wire on a 2013 Dodge Journey to Use a 4- to 5-Way Adapter
It looks like on the 2013 Dodge Journey the reverse lights are on the rear hatch and possibly also on the body structure with some of the other lights. If there are reverse lights on the body structure then you will need to access the tail light wiring and find the wire that goes to the reverse light bulb and tap into it there. If the reverse lights are only on the light cluster in the hatch then there should be a wiring harness at the top of the hatch going into the vehicle and you...

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2013 Dodge Journey
I do have a solution for you, however the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118495 referenced in your question is confirmed to work with just the 2010 Dodge Journey. For your 2013 Dodge Journey, I instead recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118536 if your vehicle has LED tailights or # 118567 if you have Incandescent Bulb taillights. Regardless of the which harness you need, these will simply plug into existing wiring behind the driver and passenger side tail...

  • Finding the Reverse Light Wires at the Back of a 2014 Dodge Journey
If you are installing a 5-, 6-, or 7-Way trailer connector (or a back up camera) on your 2014 Dodge Journey and the trailer either has an electric reverse lock out or reverse lights then the connection to the reverse light circuit on the vehicle will be necessary. But if you are installing a 4-Way or the trailer does not have an electric reverse lockout or backup lights (or you are not installing a camera) then the connection to the reverse light circuit on the vehicle is not required. In...

  • Does the Computer of a 2013 Dodge Journey Need to Be Reset to Install Trailer Wiring
I spoke with my contact at Tow Ready and verified that your 2013 Dodge Journey will not have to be reprogrammed if you install the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118536. This wiring harness will use the factory connectors at the back of each tail light assembly to provide signals to the 4-way connector. I know some Dodge vehicles will come with a factory trailer connector tucked away under the rear of the vehicle and in order to use the factory installed connector the body control...

  • Trailer Wiring 4-Way Recommendation for 2016 Dodge Journey with LED Taillights
For trailer wiring confirmed to fit your 2016 Dodge Journey with LED taillights you would want the Tekonsha kit part # 118536 which is confirmed as a fit for your specific model and taillight configuration. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • 2011 Dodge Journey Driver Side LED Brake Light Not Working After Installing a Trailer Wiring Harness
If this problem is on the 2011 Dodge Journey tail light then on the affected light check its connector or any broken or bent pins. It is possible that something happened with the connector that is causing it to not work properly with or without the wiring harness connected. Also, make sure you are using the wiring harness for Journey's with LED tail lights, # 118536. If the issue is on the trailer tail light then it sounds like either that one light is bad and needs to be replaced...

  • Will T-One Wiring Harness Work on a 2016 Dodge Journey?
The T-One Wiring Harness, # 118495, you previously purchased is not a fit on your 2016 Dodge Journey. Your new vehicle will need the T-One harness # 118536. This connector will work as long as you have LED lights, as you mentioned. I have included a video install of this harness on a 2016 Dodge Journey for you to take a look at.

  • Trailer Wiring for a 2013 Dodge Charger RT
For a 2013 Dodge Charger you can use # 118560 to add a trailer wiring harness. The other option is to use # C56135 from Curt. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this harness for you.

  • Availability of Vehicle Wiring Harness and Draw-Tite Mounting Hardware for a 2017 Dodge Journey
For a vehicle wiring harness on your 2017 Dodge Journey with LED taillights, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118536. This wiring harness will plug up to existing OEM wiring plugs on your Journey. If you are only needing the mounting hardware for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III Hitch, # 75648, then use part # RHK. This is a replacement hardware kit for trailer hitches. At the product page on # RHK, enter the Draw-Tite hitch # 75648 in the box and then select Draw-Tire...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Where Running Lights Work But Other Functions Do Not
If you have a 2011-2018 Dodge Journey with LED tail lights, then the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118536 you asked this question from is the correct harness. If not, I need to know your vehicle information to help. If this is the correct harness, then it is very likely that you have a ground wire issue on your trailer. Ground wire issues often allow some functions to work and not others. I recommend checking your ground connection for a bare metal...

  • Parts Needed to Add Brake Controller and Charge Line for Trailer Battery on 2017 Dodge Journey
If your 2017 Dodge Journey isn't yet equipped with any kind of connector you will need to start with a 4-Way. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118536 if the vehicle has LED tail lights or the T-One # 118567 if it has standard incandescents. Either option will plug right into existing ports behind the rear tail lights for installation. Once the 4-Way is in place I recommend using the Wiring Kit # ETBC7L to upgrade it to a 7-Way. The harness will plug right into the 4-Way and...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroads
the 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroads has a different lower rear fascia with chrome trim and larger exhaust. The dealer might not have an option that will fit it but we do! Take a look at Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75648. I know for a fact it fits the Crossroads model because we installed it on one! I have included a link to the video showing the installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Dodge Journey AWD
We actually have a somewhat large selection of trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Dodge Journey with the AWD. I specifically recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76225 because of its hidden design and superior ground clearance. This Class III hitch features a drop-down 2" receiver that allows the crosstube to stay completely hidden behind the bumper. This not only creates a clean, factory-like appearance but it also keeps the receiver further...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Dodge Journey AWD
Your 2017 Dodge Journey is one of the vehicles for which two types of hitch are made, both a smaller 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch and a 2-inch Class III. In such cases we always recommend the 2-inch option since it will be compatible with more hitch-mount accessories and because it will offer a higher weight rating without much more additional cost. The Class III hitch I recommend for your Journey AWD is the etrailer # e98845 because it will offer easier installation than others and because...

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Dodge Journey
I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2018 Dodge Journey. If you have the 2.4L engine you can tow a trailer that weighs up to 1,000 pounds. If you have the larger 3.6L engine the maximum trailer weight is 2,500 pounds (with 1 to 2 people in the vehicle). This capacity drops with more passengers (2,000 pound capacity with 3 to 4 people and 1,500 pounds with 5 to 7 people). I do recommend also verifying this information in your copy of the manual or by checking with your...

  • Recommended Parts to Tow a Trailer with a 2015 Dodge Journey
Certainly. I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part # 76225. I like that once it's installed you only see the open receiver tube and not the crossbeam. It is a more difficult install and requires you to cut some fascia on your 2015 Dodge Journey. I've linked the video from when we installed it along with the install details for you. If you prefer an eaier install then look at the Curt # C13201. To install the Curt you need to temporarily remove the spare tire and lower...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 Dodge Journey
For your 2018 Dodge Journey the trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw Tite hitch part # 76225 because it has a concealed crosstube which means it will be mostly hidden, has a 2 inch opening which is the most popular size and has best capacities, and because it has the best price too. Check out the review video I attached for more info as well. For trailer wiring then you'd want the Tekonsha kit part # 118536 for if you have LED taillights or part # 118567 for if you have incandescent...
