Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way tow harness is located in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. The ModuLite plugs into the factory wiring harness beneath your dash, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the ModuLite, insert the included fuses into the built-in fuse holders.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within the spare tire compartment of your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Honda Element

Today on our 2008 Honda Element we're going to be installing the Tow Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118465. Now this particular wiring kit is a two part kit. This right here is the half that goes up underneath the driver side dash. It plugs into a 10-pin connector, has a couple fuse holders in it that have little 5-amp fuses in it. Now we'll be installing this first. Now normally there would be a panel right here that you would remove, but on this car it's already removed for some reason so we will not have to take that off. Now the other half of the plug that we're looking for is actually up in here.

It actually has a little bit of blue tape holding in place. That's what we're going to be plugging the connector that's on the box with the two fuses connected to it. Go ahead and reach up in there. We'll plug it in and then we'll need to adhere our box using the two-sided tape that's already on it somewhere underneath. We may even use a zip tie depending on how much extra wire we have. We got our two halves lined up.

Once we get them lined up we'll go ahead and push them together making sure we hear the locking tab click into place. You'll also want to double-check and make sure that in each of the fuse holders there is a fuse. It is a 5-amp fuse. Right down in there is a good spot to secure our box. Now before we adhere our box to the interior wall here we're going to go ahead and just use a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a paper towel.

Just going to clean the surface to make sure there's no oil or dirt on it. Once that dries we can go ahead and position our box. We'll then peel the backing off of the two-sided tape, push the box firmly in place, go ahead and put one zip tie right there just to help secure the wire. Now if you've removed the front panel here for access you'd go ahead and reinstall that. Now we're ready to move back to the rear of the vehicle to complete the installation. Now we're here at the rear of the vehicle we'll need to go ahead and open up the rear hatch.

This right here is the piece that we'll be installing here at the rear of the vehicle. Now we'll need to raise up this rear lid here. Right here is the plug that you're looking for. Now it already has a plug or a cap in it so we'll need to squeeze in on the locking tab, gently pull the cap out. We'll then take the new plug, slide it in place making sure we hear it click so that it's fully engaged. When you're ready to use your 4-flat wiring you'll simply route it up and out of the storage area where the spare tire is kept, up and over the lower portion of the hatch keeping it away from the center latch areas where it could be easily damaged. It will then push in here on the weather stripping when you close the top section of the hatch. When you're done using your 4-flat you'll simply raise the rear hatch, lower the lower half, raise the spare tire cover. You can store the wiring down next to the spare tire. Next let's go ahead and test our 4-flat wiring to make sure that all the functions are working properly. Next we'll go ahead and and take the ground on our tester light here, connect it to the white wire or the open prong. With the running lights on we'll touch the brown wire. For the left turn we'll touch the yellow wire. With the right turn we'll touch the green wire. The brakes we'll touch the green and the yellow. As you can see here, all of our functions are working just fine. We'll go ahead and put the dust cover back in place so that it keeps any dirt and debris out of the 4-flat end when we're not using it. That will do it for the installation of the Tow Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118465, on our 2008 Honda Element. .

Drove my Honda Element from Kansas to California and bought the trailer hitch and this light kit. Both products worked great, were easy to find on the website and were very easy to install using the videos on the site. Likewise, they both were shipped to me very quickly. Would highly recommend etrailer products based off my experience. 645248

It works and it didn't take very long to install. My family and I can feel safer knowing that our travel trailer lights will signal our intentions to turn and brake while driving down the road. It's also nice to know the marker lights are working too. I chose three day shipping and it was here in three business days as expected. I would recommend this product for other owners of 2007 Honda Elements as well as etrailer.com. I couldn't have found it for this price elsewhere. 23293

Wish Id read this review BEFORE installation. Folks, that grey connector is ALL THE WAY LEFT against the left side of the drivers compartment - the directions make it sound like its just to the left of the steering column - its not.

Thanks for the comment. We have added similar photos to our product description to better illustrate the location of the connector.

Have used several of these harnesses; they are simply the best. Instructions and installation videos are very helpful! These give a professional installation. However, watch the install video several times if you have any questions ask them! These install behind trim panels and under the dash in some instances. This is fairly straight forward if you have some experience. Duh! The point is you can do this, just ask questions if you are unsure. 413183

The trailer hitch for a 2008 Honda Element that we put on our son's car last year has worked perfectly. Used three times to haul trailers. The cost of buying the hitch through etrailer and then paying a local garage to install it was less than half of any quote I got from the other retailer, the dealership or any other commercial concern. Online videos made the installation easy for the mechanic, and could be installed EXACTLY as described. Highly recommend and will do this for any future cars that need no-drill hitch installations. Great job, etrailer! 410034

The product continues to work perfectly. Have referred two other friends for etrailer hitches for similar scenarios. BIG savings over dealer or trailer specialty shops. Thanks again, etrailer.

Almost plug and play on my 2008 Honda Element. Some Elements have a recall for the factory installed trailer harness. Search the internet for a pdf file that will let you see if you are included in the recall. I was not. Only other issue was my Honda trunk connector had a dummy plug in it and that had to be removed before I plugged in the new cable. Also, it is possible to run the cable out through the tailgate door jam and not between the window and the tailgate. A matter of preference, I suppose. Seem like you pinch it either way. 253729

The reference material was very helpful to read even before my hitch and wiring harness arrived. Especially helpful were the reviewers' comments giving their experiences. The hardest part in the installation was finding the jack under the dash but I only had to look a second time. 62624

Wonderfully. I turned one of my neighbors onto it as well. He has the same vehicle and saw how easy it was especially with the detailed instruction. Used it twice this past weekend.

Always try twice. I attempted to connect to a green connector that was too big the first time and figured I had the wrong product, so looked at other years and then again at the picture directions. Thank you for picture directions that say "not the green one." ON my second (really third) attempt the under dash connector clicked in perfectly and I'm betting it works as well when I hook the trailer back up. Great company, great product. This wiring harness was very easy to install on my 07 element. Took no more than 10 minutes start to finish, and half of that was just finding the ten-pin plug behind the dash, which was tucked up where it was hard to see at first. Worked perfectly on the first try. My only minor critique is that it didn't come with double-sided tape to mount the converter behind the dash, but fortunately in my case I had some lying around so it was no real setback. Highly recommended for an 07 Element. Order processed fast. Paid about a $10 bump for priority mail and it was here in 3 days, just in time for what I needed. My first order from etrailer and I was quite satisfied. 568186

I ordered the hidden hitch and the wiring setup for my 2008 Honda Element. I received it quickly and without damage. We installed it on the vehicle quickly and it was a great installation. Someone with no special skills could do this job sucessfully. I am very happy with both the products and also etrailers help. I am a repeat customer and will purchase from them again. 70854

Hi Patrick. To answer your question, we like the system very much. We use it often. I think that I wrote the review because of the ease of installing it.

Quick easy install on my wife's 2010 Honda Element EX. No tools necessary. The rear assembly is a snap. It is located in the spare tire compartment and is visible as soon as you lift the spare tire cover. this part took me less than one minute. The front assembly is a bit more tricky. The fitting is under the steering wheel (driver's side, lol). Take off the inspection panel to access the fuses and other connections. The fitting is all the way to the left and is exposed and ready to snap the harness into place. The fitting is tough to get to, you will need a flashlight to see well and you can only get one hand up there. It is difficult to reach with the seat in the way. I had to kneel next to the car and reach in that way. this installation took 10 minutes from start to finish including the removal and replacement of the inspection panel This is a bit different from the other wiring harnesses I have installed in the past with two parts, but after installation I hooked up my small trailer and it worked perfectly with lights, brake lights, and blinkers. I also ordered the 4 to 7 pin adapter to haul a popup. I hope you find this review helpful. Good luck! 21190

When I first ordered the hitch and wiring kit for my 2007 Honda Element, I was told it would be at my door on Friday. The rolling day after I ordered, I was informed that the wiring kit I ordered was not in stock, and that they would only ship the whole order together, which meant I would not receive the hitch until Monday. I contacted customer service, they sent a different wiring kit, $8 cheaper, and still managed to get everything here by Friday. Couldn't ask for better service than that!! I have ordered 4 different times from etrailer and have never been disappointed. 722838

Hitch and wiring harness where delivered quickly and in pristine condition. Hitch fit perfectly on our 2010 Honda Element, only took one hour to install the hitch and harness. The suggestion to tape the large washers to the frame rails during installation was definitely the way to go. 688697

Ordered and easily installed Custom Fit Class III 2 inch 75659 trailer hitch on my 2010 Honda Element. Also easily installed accompanying wiring (118465). Install was completed in about 45-50 minutes by me, a non-professional. On-line video and commentary by other reviewers were very helpful. In particular, the advice to tape those four 3/4 inch washers in place on the car frame was super helpful. Not sure I could have done the job, especially alone, without that piece of solid advice. 674692

It was super easy to install on my 07 honda element. The video installation on the website was spot on and simple to follow , zip ties were included as well. i Put it on in about 6 minutes.. backed up to my trailer. hooked it up.. andd... No Lights... i begrudgingly unplugged it and pulled away then checked my connections and they were fine.. so I checked the trailer and i had a broken wire on the TRAILER!!! replaced that wire and everything works Perfect.. never trust a used trailer... anyways , this is a fantastic product and the shipping was fast. I absolutely recommend it! 674512

Your Factory OE Type Kit Works like a champ!! The hookup was easy - the instructions where laid out well and I appreciate the quality of the material like 'OEM' all the way. Customer Service is great too! This being my second Honda Element I had a Trailer Dealer wire the previous vehicle. Against my wishes, they ran some wires underneath the vehicle and tied them directly to the battery using scotch lock clips which I detest - then the same way to the rear lights - crap job - Avoid a crap job and use E Trailer Products! Recommended E Trailer to a friend and she bought one of your trailer hitches for her Civic - Loves it and the customer service too! 663088

This wiring harness was super easy to install in my 2007 Honda Element. No splicing into the break lights or turn signals required. Just a simple plug under the steering column and one under the spare tire cover and I was good to go. Also came with zip ties to secure the front module under the steering column and extra fuses. 662917

This is my 3'rd different hitch from etrailer.com and I am once again very pleased! Everything on their website is easily researched and the ease of install was amazing. I backed my SC up on car ramps to make this install extra easy. Two things I would add after my install, (1) Someone had recommended that you install the forward two bolts and all associated washers first. This was a lifesaver! I taped the inner washers on and used those two bolts to pivot the hitch up for marking the small notch that was needed for the SC install. I was then able to cut that notch and keep pivoting it up to check for clearance. Once I hooked up my small trailer, it was perfectly level with the 2 3/4" rise I used for the 2" ball. All bolts lined up easily and were very easy to install by myself. A word of caution,,,, I can open my lower back hatch with the hitch and ball on without issue, you CANNOT open that same lower hatch if the trailer is attached without the bottom door hitting, and probably denting, the door! (2) After installing the two parts of the wire kit, (again, previous installers saved me time,,,, GRAY coupler under the dash! NOT the GREEN one!) I notched the spare tire cover so I can leave the wires out without pinching them. You can run the back wire either out the top hatch or out the bottom. It seems to work better out the top when hooked up to keep the wires from hitting the ground. BTW,,, my wire hookup didn't work right on first try,,,, It was not lighting up with brakes, or lights, and the turn signals would blink both trailer lights. It turned out to be the ground wire on my trailer was corroded and partially broken! After cleaning and repairing that wire, all was good!! The Master Lock was perfect fit to this hitch receiver and had just enough room to be able to lock, use the rubber cover, and still get the safety chains to attach. I can recommend this exact setup of parts for anyone looking to add a light trailer hitch to their 2008 Honda Element SC. 627811

  • How Do I Wire My 2008 Honda Element for Trailer Lights and Why is There a Converter Under The Dash
  • Your 2008 Honda element is set up differently than most vehicles and has a 10 pin connector under the dash to connect the converter to. This connection is essentially a loop circuit that powers the vehicles tow package wiring to the rear spare tire compartment. The converter that is attached to the under dash 10 pin connector is there to protect the vehicles wiring and convert the 5-wire system on the Honda to a 4-wire trailer lighting system. Once you have the part connected under the...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2006 Honda Element
  • For your 2006 Element, you will need to use a hardwired converter, like part # 119178KIT. The converter will tap into the factory wiring harnesses feeding your taillight assemblies. The best place to tap the wiring in would be directly behind the tail light assemblies. You would use the circuit tester included with the kit to probe the wires feeding each taillight assembly to determine which wire carries which circuit. Activate the left turn signal, and then probe the wires feeding...

  • Electric Brake Wire Location on a 2005 GMC Savana Van
  • The electric brake wire on the 2005 GMC Savana Van models would be connected in one of two ways. If your van came equipped with a factory 7-Way, then the blue brake wire is already ran from the 7-Way plug in the back of the vehicle and up into the cab. You would not make a connection in the rear of the vehicle. The wire would be located under the dash, near the emergency brake pedal. You will need to hard wire to install a brake controller, as the 2005 Savana vans should not have...

  • Will TheDraw-Tite Class III 2 Inch Hitch # 75659 Fit A 2010 Honda Element SC
  • The Draw-Tite Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # 75659, will fit the 2010 Honda Element SC, but the rear fascia does need to be trimmed. I do not have any pictures of the hitch installed on a Honda Element. If you will be towing with this hitch you will want to check your owners manual or the Honda dealer for the towing capacity of your 2010 Honda Element SC. To complete your towing setup, you will need the following items: Draw-Tite Ball Mount, part # 2923 Pin and Clip, part # PC3 Tow...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2006 Honda Element
  • Since you have a 2006 Honda Element the port you are looking for behind the access panel you are trying to remove isn't there so there would be no reason to remove it. The harness # 118465 is not the correct harness for your vehicle as it would only fit the 2007-2011 models. You will need to use a hardwire trailer wiring kit part # C59496 which would not require you to get behind that panel. I attached installation instructions and an install video for you to check out as well.

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Honda Element
  • I believe I found the review online where a single customer said he had a problem installing the Curt Hitch part # 13574 on his 2010 Honda Element. I wish I knew more about the issue he was having, but I checked with Curt and they have said that as long as the 2010 Honda Element is not an SC model this hitch should work well and haven't heard of any issues beyond that. So based on that I can safely recommend this hitch for you. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. If...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendations for Towing 4 x 8 Trailer With 2008 Honda Element
  • If there's a possibility you might use the hitch as a mounting point for a hitch accessory like a cargo carrying tray or a bike rack, you might want to consider going with the Class III hitch with the 2 inch receiver opening. The 2 inch receiver size is more common and there are many more accessories available for it. If you decide to go with a 2 inch hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch, part # 25659. You'll also need a ball mount, part # 2923 and a 1-7/8 inch ball,...

  • Since you intend to use a cargo basket and/or tow a small trailer with your 2008 Honda Element SC I suggest a Class III hitch receiver that will offer higher tongue weight capacity. For your Element SC we can offer a Class III 2-inch receiver from DrawTite, part # 75659. It offers 350-lb tongue weight and 3500-lb gross towing weight ratings and installs without welding or drilling, but does require trimming of the rear bumper fascia. We do not have any 2-inch hitch receivers for your Element...

If there is a short on the trailer wiring or in the vehicle wiring that can blow the converter box. It can also happen if the trailer lights draw more power than what the harness is rated for. Our records indicate the trailer wiring harness for your Element is a hardwire installation. For that you would want part # 119147KIT. They are all hardwire options that require splicing into the vehicle tail light wires. You will see a gray connector there, but again it may be difficult to see. The Trailer Hitch for the 2009 Honda Element, # 24720, will only work on a 2009 Honda Element that is not an SC model.
