Mounted behind the rear license plate, the NVision Rear View Camera System detects objects up to 5-1/2 feet away. The best backup alarm system for vehicles with blind spots.

by:

Great Product! Good Picture! This is great. It helps me see where I can't behind my vehicle and the SmartZone Sensing tells you the exact location of the object behind you. Camera + Sensors = Awesome!

by:

Good Quality Product for PriceShipped out the day I ordered and I installed last week. So far works great. Instructions clear and easy to install once got back of car opened up; most difficult thing was getting camera wire into my car without drilling new hole. The reverse sensors work well and picture is very clear with good color. Was concerned about 2.5" monitor but is adequate. Wanted small unit so I had more mounting options. Picture comes on in about 1 sec when put in reverse.

by:

Installed the backup sensor system on 2012 Mazda CX-9. Very easy to do on this vehicle because backup lights and license bracket are all on the lift gate. System works great so far. Clearer instructions with installation examples for vehicles with differing license frame and backup light locations would be helpful.

Don't let wired scare you.Installation: Cables to the camera and monitor but can't be sized longer or shorter if you are driving something longer. I have a Dodge Quad Cab with short bed and had spare cable to tie up underneath. Mounting camera is just like putting on license plate frame. Mounting monitor is even simpler because you put the monitor where you want it, run the cable under the dash, to the firewall, down the back of the engine compartment, along the bottom of the truck with wire ties. Power for the whole system comes from the backup light wire. The connection is made in the taillight assembly and is EASY!!
Camera: Camera shows best in daylight. The picture is a bit more grainy at night. Either way, I backup under the tongue perfect every single time!!!
Proximity sensor: Day or night, the backup warning lights function perfectly. The red, orange and green square outlines are always visible but it would be nice if they only appeared after the green (least close proximity) was activated (solid square).
Monitor: I was surprised how large the display was. I can see great even with the small size. There are several buttons on the monitor but I haven't touched them. The picture was perfect out of box. I was hoping that I would have to touch the buttons because the mount isn't stiff enough to take my ham-bone finger poking at it. Picture has not faded out in daylight like computer monitors do.
When I first bought this, I didn't know who Hopkins was. Now, I know that they are one of the biggest players in the trailer hardware business.

So far, I am very pleased with my Hopkins Rear View Camera with Backup Sensors. The entire system only took me about an hour to install , and was pretty easy.I installed the camera on a 2010 Ford
F 150 which definitely needs a good camera to avoid backing into something. I was happy to find that the cables included were long enough to reach the cab on a big truck. I enjoy having the benefit of the camera and hearing the sensors at the same time. I was notified immediately about my order, had it delivered in a timely manner, and was well packaged. After having two previous inferior camera systems, I am hoping this is the last one I will need to install. I would feel very comfortable recommending this system to others. I will also say that I've had this product for only one week, and should it fail in the immediate future, I will be sure to comment on that too.

by:

Works great, especially for hooking up my trailer. Was a easy install, good instructions. The only thing I needed extra was zip ties for attaching the cable to the frame. Installed it on a 2000 Ford, F-150 Harley Davidson edition.

by:

Product was shipped and arrived with a few days. Packaging was pretty good and included all the necessary parts for the install accept for zip ties. No biggie. Pretty much plug and play, so anyone with some experience with cars can do this. Hardest part was running the cable from the license plate to the screen inside.
Note: Its a good idea to connect the wiring to the reverse lights and test to make sure everything works before mounting everything in place.

I've only been using it for the last two days so I still need to do a some fine tuning with the camera angle and the proximity sensors.

All in all good product.

I just recently purchased and installed the hopkins camera HM60195VA and say I love it. It's an easy install for my dodge challenger and helps out beyond words when backing up. The install only took about an hour and if your not really looking you can't tell there is a camera there. The wiring was simple and plenty long enough and the monitor looks like it belongs there. I highly recommend this set up.

by:

This is one cool gadget , it was also easy to install it only took me 30 minutes. I did share this already to my pastor, to my brother and also to my brother in law. Im not tall of a person standing only 5'7 it was a bit of a challenge for me backing up im driving a 2006 f-150 , so when I saw this online I immediately order it.

by:

Installation was as simple as the video. I had to drill a hole behind my license plate to get the cable into the trunk but the rest was just snaking it through the trunk and along the side channels up to the front dash.

Turned it on and it worked first time. This works perfectly for me and I like the audio alert. Haven't had any problems since I installed this. And I do recommend this.

I did overdrill the Hole in the trunk and had to go to Pep boys to get a larger grommet, but that was my fault. Do get the ring terminal. It costs 5 cents, but that puts you into the free shipping range, and you will then save about $12.00 on shipping. You'll use the Ring terminal anyway and it doesn't come with one.

by:

You'll see that I purchased and reviewed this same item in April 2013. That camera failed within 6 months. eTrailer had me go direct to Hopkins who replaced the whole kit.
Fast forward to 18 months later, the plastic bracket that holds the camera snapped leaving the camera dangling by the wire. The plastic bracket is not very durable, in my experience. The adjustment screws on the camera and sensors are rusted so much I can't adjust them. This camera system is no way superior to an OEM installed model.
That all said, this system is much better than nothing. The safety enhancement of being able to see behind when backing up cannot be overvalued. A friend's neighbor backed over their child a few years ago. I never want that to happen. Even getting out and looking before each back-up isn't responsive enough.

by:

This is a very good product. I am very pleased especially since it is a "one size fits most" model. I installed this on a 2007 Saturn Outlook XE. This vehicle has terrible a rear view and didn't have a OEM back up camera. I mounted the monitor in the shaded area just above the rear view mirror. I routed the wire through the headliner from rear to front of the car. I originally planned on running it under the carpet (easier) but there isn't enough wire in the kit to do so. I had to cut some of the fake chrome/plastic molding/crown from above the license plate because the camera didn't fit in there. I warmed up the plastic with a hair dryer and a hacksaw cut through it easily. It took me 5 hours to install due to the cutting. It's well worth it though.

by:

I have to admit that I am very SLOW when installing any type of electrical gadjets, so this entire episode of installing this camera took me a total of TWO hours (it should take an average person about an hour to install). After installation, it worked from the get-go. The accompanying video was extremely helpful. I am very pleased with this camera and the way it works. Just before I found out about your product (from a friend of mine), I scheduled a company to install a backup camera in my truck; it would have cost $750 for them to do this. Needless to say, I cancelled this appointment and performed the installation myself.

I just purchased an enclosed trailer and I intend to use it for hauling antique automobiles; needless to say, this backup camera is absolutely necessary to hook up the trailer to the truck.

by:

My Hopkins Rear View Camera arrived exactly when etrailer said it would. The installation on a hatchback (Ford Escape) required some creativity, but I was able to do it. The nice thing is that the screen doesn't blink on and off with interference like my old wireless unit did. The only room for improvement is the video picture quality; not as good as my old wireless one was. The backup sensors are a plus.

by:

Installation was fairly simple since it was replacing an older model rearview camera. The picture is outstanding, even at night. The sensors work very well and correlate nicely on the screen with the squares. Wish the screen was a little larger but that is all right. Received your product in less than a week, Outstanding. Just as it is described and the demo video was the seller. Keep up the great work. Will be ordering more for other vehicles.

by:

Product was delivered fast. Great communication from the shipping department. Fairly easy install, got it for my wife. It's the best present she's ever got! I hook up to trailers nearly everyday, never had the use of a camera. I'm also buying one for myself!

by:

The backup camera will be a Christmas gift so a photo will be forthcoming. My husband has had a problem with bumps in his rear bumper so hopefully the camera will help keeping his current bumper unscathed. The rating of excellent is my hope for use.

by:

Camera works exactly as advertised. Easy install, good instructions. Very pleased. Considering getting another one for my other vehicle.

by:

This camera is exactly what I was looking for. The only problem is that the screen is not visible in sun light. It works great for hooking up trailers.

by:

Christmas Gift so I hope it's as nice as shown. Fast shipping and good packing.

by:

Bought this unit for my Wife's 2012 F150. The installation was very easy, took a little less than an hour. My Wife is super excited and loves the unit. I like the fact that you can mute the sensors since she will be pulling a travel trailer occasionally. View from the monitor is very clear and has excellent peripheral line of site.

by:

I DID MY SELF INSTALL IT TO MY WIFE VAN, EASY INSTALL AND GREAT NICE PICTURE SMALL MONITOR, EXCELLENT, THANK YOU!!!!

  • Why Would Peak Back Up Camera Turn Off When Brakes are Applied
Does it go off with either blinker too? If so, then the problem is theres a short on the wiring from the stop/turn signal to the power wires of the camera. Otherwise the problem is most likely a weak ground and when you apply the brakes the insufficient ground shows up and cuts the camera off. Solution for this is to try jumping the wiring of the ground to a known working ground and see if that helps.

  • Can a Backup Camera be Wired to be On All the Time on My Street Rod
In order to wire a backup camera to be on all of the time, you would have to wire it into the running light circuit instead of the reverse light circuit. This way, when you wanted it on, you would just turn the running lights on. The Hopkins Rear View Camera with Backup Sensors, # HM60195VA, is the only backup camera we have that is a hardwire (not a wireless system). We do have other backup cameras though. I have included a link to them for you.
