Can a Backup Camera be Installed at the Back of a Trailer

Updated 03/19/2014 | Published 03/18/2014

Question:

I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra and I want to be able to see traffic behind my trailer. I need a camera that is NOT affected by bluetooth in the Tundra. I dont have the option of turning the bluetooth off. Are there any cameras that will work?

You will need a hardwire camera. The wireless ones are affected by Bluetooth. You can use Hopkins system # HM60195VA that you have referenced but you will need extra wiring because of the length of the trailer and truck and you will need to wire it so that it turns on with the running lights instead of the reverse lights if you want to see traffic while driving forward.

We carry some 16 gauge wire, # 16-1-1, sold in 1 foot increments to extend the reach of the wiring included with the system. Then you would tap into a running light wire instead of a reverse light wire and you should be good to go.
