The heavy-duty setup bolts straight to the frame and pairs only with Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch receiver, like the Nighthawk, Sterling, Blackhawk, Blackhawk 2, Falcon, and Falcon 2. Because these are direct-connect base plates, no crossbar is required. That makes the hook-up faster, the front end cleaner, and the system tougher for long towing runs.
When you’re not towing, the drawbars come off in seconds by pulling two pins. Once removed, the brackets are nearly invisible—tucked neatly within the grille so you don’t have hardware sticking out or snagging your shins. The hidden design keeps your vehicle’s look clean while protecting the mounts from scrapes and scuffs.
Each bracket is computer-cut from solid steel for consistent strength and fitment. A black powder coat finish resists corrosion and road wear so you can count on it through every mile. The base plates are engineered for heavy-duty use and include mounting hardware for a secure frame-to-bracket connection without welding.

This Road Master Direct connect base plate works perfectly for a 2020 ford transit cargo 250! Awesome service from etrailer as usual! The finished product can barely be seen through the front fascia!
I bought and installed this tow plate one year ago on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler. I bought this particular plate due to the jeep having a Barricade off-road bumper. This plate attaches a bit lower than other plates and prevented having to modify the bumper. Installation was easy involving only hand tools. The plate comes with all needed bolts and attachments. I have towed this Jeep several thousand miles behind my RV with absolutely no issues. As an aside, I use a Roadmaster Night Hawk tow bar which is also an excellent product. Both are expensive, but I believe cheaping-out on safety is no a good idea. I highly recommend this product.
This works perfect with my Roadmaster tow bar. It was a little difficult to install since I had to remove the front end of the Trailblazer, but with the good directions that came with it and some you tube videos made the installation easier.
Had these installed at Lester’s Automotive in Boerne,Texas…First class service all the way. Paul and his crew worked through lunch for over 4 hours to install these on our 2026 Ford Ranger. Also ran the wire and hooked up my auxiliary tow lights. The price for this was very reasonable and would highly recommend them for all r.v. needs even if not real close to the Boerne area. R.V park within reasonable distance if needed.
Etrailer comes through again! This was a great savings as a used kit, but it was even better than the description online. I have installed (4) baseplates on and etrailer.com has given me great videos to watch and good instructions to follow. Couldn't be more pleased with the quality, service and delivery times.

Still working great, makes us feel confident while driving down the road.
Pretty straight forward instructions, easy to follow, would definitely recommend watching the online video first. had to do a little bit of pounding with a lead shot hammer to get 2 of the holes to line up, but not too difficult.

Great!!! We have towed our 2014 Explorer several times between Florida and Indiana and it has worked just as it should.
The Roadmaster Brake sys, seat adapter, and Roadmaster base kit do a very good job towing my 2013 Explorer
I have hauled my car from Florida to New Brunswick & Quebec and back as well as a quick trip to Vancouver Island British Columbia without a bit of problems. I highly recommend this base plate
I am a fan of etrailer. Any item I've ordered has always arrived sooner than promised and all the parts there. No exception this time. Part fit just like it was supposed to. etrailer does a great job with helpful installation videos. This installation was easy since I have a background in bodyshop and mechanical repairs. If you don't, the instructions available are easy to follow and etrailer always has help available.
I love the quality of the products I ordered. Customer relations was very good as well, they kept me informed and even though it took several weeks and etrailer had to wait on items to get to them, I was communicated to well. I know it’s important in who you deal within this day and time and you can trust etrailer.

Awesome, great reliability
I've owned this for about a year and now posting my review. 1st. Etrailer customer service is exceptional, fast shipping and well packaged. 2nd. The installation instructions included as well as the video made the installation very easy. 3rd I really liked the fact that no modification or removal of the Ford Explorer frame or structure was required. Simple increasing the diameter of two holes was the only modification of the Ford frame. Car tows like a dream. I'm very confident that the engineering of road master will allow me to tow safely for years to come.
Never installed. Still sitting in the unopened box. Need to return.

The tow bar Base Kit was a great product. It was advertised to take 3 hours to install, and I (with help) was able to do it in about 2 1/2 hours. It fit perfect and was of great quality. You do need a second person to assist removing and installing the front bumper grille assembly, and to hold up the base plate assembly to get the first bolts started.
My only suggested improvements would be that the photos in the manual are not great, but I was able to figure them out.

Everything is great. I will be towing my Explorer next week to the NASCAR race in Vegas. Good product, easy install which I did myself in a few hours.
The baseplate was a very tight fit and took a lot of effort to get it into place. Once it was as high as I could get it I notice some material needed to be cut from the bumper and the car frame lower mount point Once removed i was able to get the baseplate to the proper height but still needed to reem a few holes...again the issue was on the car side. Other than that the product is very well built and the finish paint is outstanding.
Very good fit. Easy to install. Directions were fairly easy to follow. Will be towing behind our Winnebago Journey. This is my 3rd baseplate from trailer. Great company and customer service.
