Flat towing a vehicle requires a number of components: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, a wiring/lighting solution and a supplementary braking system. All of these components are described in detail in the linked article.
You can use Roadmaster base plates # 4427-3A; an installation video is linked as a guide along with the written instructions. For a tow bar I suggest Roadmaster's Blackhawk 2 # RM-422 which is an all-terrain type with heavy-duty construction. For safety cables use # RM-653.
For a lighting kit I suggest the easy-to-use Optronics # TL21RK which install in just minutes thanks to their magnetic bases.
We offer several types of supplementary braking systems that can be seen on the link provided. These range in type and complexity of installation. Among the easiest to use is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System # RM-9400, shown in the linked video.
I suggest careful review of your Explorer owner's manual for any guidance regarding flat towing this vehicle. Some vehicles require pre- and post-tow processes to ensure safe flat towing. Check your manual as a first step to ensure safe towing.
