Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

Brake-Control Adapter Port

This adapter plugs into the connector beneath your vehicle's dashboard. To reach the connector, remove the storage pocket that is built into the center of your dash, just above the ashtray. Once you have removed the pocket, you will see the gray, 4-pin connector that mates with the adaptor.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Excellent product!

This was a breeze to install. It plugged right in to the factory system and I was ready to tow. The settings are easy to read and change. I highly recommend this product.

Super fast shipping. Great communication. Installation couldn't have been easier. Absolutely would do business with again.

2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Arrived on time. Install into 2005 f250 was simple using the plug in wiring harness I order with the Prodigy 3. I removed the in dash storage pocket and cut a hole in the back of the pocket to run the wiring harness, reinstalled pocket, installed bracket, plugged up controller. Looks great (see pic)
I have not pulled trailer yet but expect great performance. Thanks etrailer

by:

Installed these on a 41' Landmark Key Largo and, holy cow, I can stop it now! Wish I'd had these in the mountains!. Product arrived intact but boxes were nearly destroyed. Need heavier packaging for the weight. But everything was present with no damage.

Installation was straight forward with no issues encountered. Take some time to plan your brake line installation to avoid future problems. I installed some square tubing across the frame to mount things to because there wasn't anything there. Nothing beneath the chloroplast in that area that would need servicing so it should work out well.

These were well worth the time and money. Just pull out in front of me now! (No please don't.)

I ordered the Tekonsha P3, and the Ford wiring harness to replace a failed factory trailer brake controller. Installation was less than 10 minutes. ETrailer is so on it, I received a call the day I ordered saying I had missed the shipping cut off for the day, I had paid for 2nd day, and she wanted to make sure I was ok with still going that route. Crazy good on the customer service. Thank you very much. Everything was as advertised. Video service on your website was a huge help as well.

eTrailer provides superior advice as well as excellent pricing and delivery. Based on eTrailer's recommendation, we installed the Tekonsha P-3 Proportional Brake Controller (PN 90195) along with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Ford (PN 3065-P) on our 2005 F250 Super Duty to replace the OEM controller due to the OEM controller sending insufficient voltage to our 40ft., 26000lb., GVW FB trailer brakes. It took less than 20 minutes to install and works perfectly. It easily adjusts to advance or slow trailer braking and the inertial sensor on this unit works flawlessly. We are extremely happy with these products. Now if only we could permanently disable the TBC error warning light on the dashboard.

Bill,Thank you for your review. I see that you have a 2005 Ford F-250 super duty. If your Ford came with a factory brake controller that you replaced with an aftermarket controller, then the TBC error code will display on your dash. Your local ford dealer should be able to deactivate the TBC error code.

I can not say enough about how great E trailer and James were to deal with. I had 2 brake controllers fail exactly 1 month after they were installed and this company stood behind their warranty and replaced them both. After the second failure I brought my F350 to my mechanic. He spoke to the tech experts at E trailer and discovered the problem may have been excessive ripple/noise in the output of my alternator. We replaced the alter and E trailer sent a third controller to my mechanic. It has worked flawlessly since that repair. These folks are the best at customer service, I can't express my appreciation enough. I will only use and recommend them in the future.

Plug-in adapter was an exact match for the Ford wiring harness. Connecting to the new brake controller literally took seconds.

by:
2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

My break controller was shipped fast and was easy to install (less than 5 minutes).
I haven't used it yet but will try it out in the next few weeks.

we Purchased an additional tow vehicle for our 5th wheel so we purchased another P3 brake controller from etrailer. Very simple product to install to your factory controller if it has one already. If not it takes a touch more effort to find the wires under the dash, but we love this controller and the ease of use and features it has

by:

Received the Tekonsha P3 brake controller and wiring adaptor the other day. Installation couldn't be easier, a ten minute job thanks to the pictures on etrailer showing where to find the tow package plug on my truck. Great little unit with tons of features.. Shipping was extremely quick!

by:

The brake wiring has been in place for a year + and is working well. etrailer is always my first choice on anything related to my vehicles and trailers.

by:
2006 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

Plugged right in. Now my trailer brakes work. My truck is an xlt so, it didn't come with a factory trailer brake controller but, the harness was there.

by:
2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Plug and play installation made this incredibly simple. I went to 3 autoparts stores prior to ordering from etrailer, and nobody had anything that would fit the factory connection on my 2005 F250 superduty. Went online and found exactly what I needed. Shipping was quick, and had it installed about 10 mins after opening the package. Etrailer's videos are great.

by:

Excellent customer service -quick turn around on order! The Brake controller and wiring harness were a great fit and easy to install... glad to finally be rid of the typical "TBC Fault" issues that plague the factory equipment! Thanks again E-Trailer!

Well designed, great length, simply plug and play. Once I had access to the brake controller plug in my 2006 f250, this adapter plugged right into it. I plugged the other end into my new brake controller and it was running.

Works a described. Plugged right in to our motor home then into the brake controller box.

The wiring harness looked perfect and easily plugged into the Tekonsha brake controller and the vehicle. No issues at all. Great product quality once again!

I have a 2005 F-350, replaced OME brake controller with a Prodigy P 3 [90195] and wire adapter 3065-P. It plug right in the truck's 7 way wiring works great.

  • Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring for a 2006 Ford F-450 6.0 Diesel
Trailer brake controller wiring harness # 3065-P is the correct harness for your 2006 Ford F-450. In your picture, it would plug into the larger one on the right. The larger square end of the harness plugs into your truck's connector and the small flat end plugs into the back of the brake controller # 90195.

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and he stated that there are two ways that you can install an aftermarket brake controller in a 2006 Ford F-350 with an integrated brake controller. The first way is to hardwire in the controller. The white wire goes to the negative battery terminal, the black wire to the positive battery terminal via a 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker, # 9506P. • How to Bypass Factory Brake Controller of 2006 Ford F-350
The fault message is pretty vague so it's hard to give a specific area where the problem may be, but first place to check is the grounds of the trailer wiring. You also might just have a dirty trailer wiring connector that needs to be cleaned to allow the contact to be made better. We see that quite a bit. Taking sandpaper to the pins of the trailer connector usually clears that right up.
