Using a Torque Wrench

To use a click-type torque wrench, you must first know how much torque you wish to apply to your nut or bolt. Add your 3/8" or your 1/2" socket, depending on the size of your nut or bolt, on the end of your wrench. Adjust the torque level at the bottom of your wrench by loosening the end dial of the lever to allow the handle to twist to the desired amount of torque. Once your torque is set, begin to slowly tighten the nut or bolt until your wrench makes a clicking sound to signify you have reached the chosen torque. After you're finished, apply the same amount to all surrounding nuts or bolts. This will build the correct tension all the way around your object for the safest results. To use the reverse feature, move the small switch on the head of the wrench to the left or right to change directions.

For the Ford Bronco the rear bumper needs to be taken off to complete the job but otherwise very easy to do!!

by:

You sent it in a box large enough for my whole tool box. What a waste!

by:

This review is relevant to my purchase of this tool to aid in correctly solo-installing a Draw-Tite hitch on my new Mazda CX-5, with the wheels on the ground. If you're unfamiliar with torquing, then you would be surprised at how much force is required to set the mounting nuts on the cone washers to 75 ft-lbs. It would have been pure guesswork and nearly impossible to get that torque with a standard ratchet wrench. Even with the long lever arm of this wrench, you need to apply a solid 50 pounds of force from an awkward position under the vehicle. Hearing the solid "CLICK" at the set-point gave me confidence that I'd done it right.
The scale is a bit hard to read and doesn't line up exactly, so I knocked off 1 star.

by:

Total quality and extremely accurate and easy to adjust. My old one went right to the recycler after I put this one to work, primarily checking my tire dealer torques and my four wheel travel trailer lugs on a regular basis. I have run two Suburbans a total of 680,000 miles so maintenance checks are mandatory and I expect this tool will be riding along for many more.

by:

Multi-drive size torque wrench was exactly the tool that I needed to install a suspension enhancement kit on my truck. Tool came in a nice package that protected it well during shipment. Worked great right out of the box.

by:

Torque wrench is well made and gets the job done. I use the wrench for torquing the lug nuts on our RV to 120 PSI. In the past I quessed at the correct torque.

by:

Worked perfectly

by:

Well made torque wrench. Feels solid. Used it to install a new hitch on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon. Handled the job well for 75lbs torque. Price feels right compared to similar ones elsewhere

by:

Tried to use it at lower tension and could clearly hear a "click" telling me when to stop. At 86 foot-lbs that were recommended for my specific application, I could not hear a thing. I was afraid to apply too much force and just stopped as I was already using weight of my body.

by:

Tork wrench worked great installing my new running boards.

by:

Worked perfectly to torque bolts to 76 pounds/foot while installing my draw-tire class III on my Honda Odyssey. The right tools make the job a lot easier.

by:

It's a torque wrench...it works fine.

by:

Used it once and already broke. The locking nut will not move

by:

Great service to find the right part coupled with good instructions to install it!

by:

The torque wrench performed as expected and delivered when expected.

by:

Works as it should and good quality. Good instructions in the box on how to use with conversion charts.

by:

Well constructed with a long handle for leverage.

by:

It's been a year and everything is still working properly.
Parts seem to be high quality.
Thanks

by:

Although I have not used it yet , I’m sure that it will perform admirably .

by:

I have not used it yet, but I needed to have it for when I shall need it. So far, I am happy with the quality I see and the heft of the tool.

by:

Worked great and easy to use

  • Recommended Torque Wrench for Trailer Hitch Installation
For the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12172, there really isn't a solution other than to use a torque wrench. Without torqing the necessary bolts to the manufacturer specs, you void the warranty and can have safety issues when using the hitch receiver. If you want to purchase one, I recommend the torque wrench # ALL944001 or the digital adapter # ALL940962. There are many auto parts stores that now rent tools as well if you prefer to go that route, but...

  • Lug Nut Torque Range for 1/2-Inch Wheel Studs
The recommended torque range for lug nuts varies by the stud diameter, wheel size and wheel material and if you refer to the linked chart you can see the torque range for 1/2-inch studs starts at 75-ft-lbs and goes as high as 120-ft-lbs. Many RVs use a 15-inch or 16-inch steel wheel and for wheels this size on 1/2-inch studs that are secured with standard 60-degree coned lug nuts the torque range is 90 to 120-ft-lbs. If you need a torque wrench we offer several wrenches like # ALL944001...

  • Can 2016 Ford Flex be Towed On Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1
Yes, your wheel and tire size is perfectly fine to use with the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1 that you referenced. At one point Roadmaster listed this as only fitting up to 16 inch wheels but we've found that's not true currently. The vehicle in the review video I attached has much bigger wheels than that.

I have linked the written instructions as well as an install video showing a 2015 model year. The only specialized tool needed is a torque wrench like # ALL944001 which will let you tighten the fasteners to the correct torque values. • Is 1,200 lb Tongue Weight Equal-i-zer Too Heavy Rated for Trailer with 596 lb Tongue Weight
You have way too much weight distribution for the tongue weight of your towing setup. What you typically experience when using a WD system that is rated too high is a really rough ride quality. Since the bars are so rigid I could see there possibly being an issue with the trailer getting bent if you went over severe enough bumps but that's not something we've seen or experienced here. We do have a pretty easy solution for you as you can replace the spring bars and head of your current...

Hi Patrick, Any of the hitches compatible with your 2017 Jeep Cherokee would be easy enough for you to install but you'll want to go with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e62TR since it has a hidden crosstube. You would instead need the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98864. This is a four bolt install so you could easily do this at home and save yourself some money. I understand your concern. I called Lippert to verify that the 132 Ft-lb of torque and use of Locktite is still valid. They said that was the requirement and there were no alternative instructions. The assumption is that this is the method they used for installation and that by removing the foot pad you will run the risk of damaging the cylinder.
