What's up everybody, Adam here with etrailer, today we're gonna be taking a look at the Demco Slide-Lok trailer coupler. So this is gonna be for your 2 5/16 inch ball. Make sure that is exactly what you need for whatever ball mount that you have. If you don't have a ball mount, we do have one, and this is gonna have a capacity of 12,500 pounds. So great for those smaller loads, horse trailers, maybe the little bit heavier loads, but definitely not some of the big equipment-type stuff. So if you need something that big, we do have them.
But the nice thing about these type of couplers is the amount of play we're gonna have. Meaning, if I we're to put this in here all we need to do, we're gonna click that in. This will slide over and then we take this little pin and that's not going anywhere. But the cool thing about this is off-road applications. Look at all this play.
So when we're going horse riding, we always go to a cool little park, but we have to go off road. So having that extra little bit of play is awesome. So this isn't gonna be as much of an off-road coupler as, let's say like a pintle ring, but it's definitely gonna be better than just your standard couplers, just because once you get to this point, the standard coupler, it could just hit that little lip and it's just gonna pop right off, but we just have so much play here. So this is great for the off-road applications. And I have one of these on my horse trailer, actually, and we like it.
Whenever we're ready, we can just pull this back and it comes undone, done deal. We are gonna need a pin for this 'cause it comes with it and it's connected, which is awesome. I just lose things all the time. But one thing we are gonna have to get is hardware. So looking at how long these bolts are, I believe they're around 5 inches long, yeah.
So you want to get 'em at least 5 inches long. I put a washer on each side just because as you start to tighten it down, starts to kind of twist a little bit. So definitely grab some 5/8 inch diameter bolts and make sure they're at least 5 inches long. Nylon lock nuts work, I think those are the best for this application. But then another thing, if you don't have one, we just wanna make sure we get a channel that is 3 inches from inside to inside 'cause that is the right size for this coupler. The overall length of our coupler's gonna be about 11 inches, from the center of the mounting hole to the edge, it's gonna be about 10 1/2 inches. And the overall length we're gonna add to our trailer, it's about 9 1/4 of an inch. These are all kind of the same, for this trailer, I would definitely go with one that's black. I don't really think the color really matters, but if you're going for a certain look, and if it's a construction trailer for your business, you wanna make sure it looks good. So we do have other ones. This one's literally rated for the same exact as the Demco, it's just a different color, but we do have lighter ones as well. I usually go on the heavier end of things when I'm building a trailer, might as well, just because you never know what's gonna be put on it, so might as well not limit yourself from the get-go. Another thing you're gonna need, if you don't have it on your trailer, some safety chains, we have all that. If you need a ball mount, we have all that. So hopefully this video kind of helps you figure out exactly if this coupler is gonna be the best, and if it's not, just look for my face on some of the other coupler video pages and I'll give you a breakdown of that one so you can find the right one for you all on our site..
