Video Transcript for Setting up the 12V PWM Filter for RV Backup Camera Systems on a 2021 Thor Coleman Motorhome

Hey guys, Kevin here with etrailer and today I'm gonna be showing you how to install the Voyager PWM filter here on our 2021 Thor motor coach Coleman series 24EQ class C motor home. As most Mercedes-Benz sprinters or Mercedes cabin chassis RVers know, there is an issue with the wiring coming from our cabin chassis up to our camera system, not allowing enough power for the actual camera to send the signal over to our monitor. So, the fix for this is the Voyager PWM filter which is going to send a steady current up to our camera so that we can always make sure that we have our signal. So, the power coming through your vehicle's wiring is actually giving either a pulsing power to the camera or is just not providing a strong enough current as it is. So, that's where this comes in place. The power's gonna ride into the actual filter right here and then build up a charge so that it can provide a steady output of 12 volts going to your camera, that way it'll actually function correctly.

So, as you can see, we're inside right now with our monitor, we have power running to our cameras and to our monitor itself but we're getting no signal and that's going to any of our cameras at all. So, we're gonna go ahead and install our PWM filter to solve this issue. All right. So, back at our camera, I pulled out our wiring a little bit and notice that we're just not gonna have enough to get through here. So, I'm gonna actually pull off our third break light back here for our RV.

Cause I know I got wire tucked up in behind here. All right, now with that loosened, we can pull our wiring out and you can see from where it was installed. There's plenty of wire here 'cause we're gonna need to be placing our filter in between our camera and our actual wiring running into our running light circuit. So, what we're gonna do right now With the power off, we're gonna snip both of these wires. I'm gonna pull 'em apart just a bit.

Then from there, we're going to strip back our casing on both sides so that we can splice in our filter. So, if you look at your PWM filter you'll see a red wire and a black wire and then there's also gonna be this little white collar that's gonna be on one side stating that it's gonna go to the camera with these wires. The other side will be without that and that's the side we're gonna have connecting up to our trailer with this side connecting up to our wires on our camera. Now we do wanna make sure that we're splicing into the right things, especially because we have yellow and green wiring here. So, if we look at this right here on our yellow wire I can see it's connected up to our positives and our black wire right here is our negative connecting up to our green wire.

So, I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna splice my black to my green right here 'cause that is our negative wire. And then I'm gonna connect my yellow to my red. We'll crimp that down. And then the same thing with our trailer side of our wiring. So our filter's actually quite big when it comes to wiring here. So, a lot of the times you're gonna notice you don't have enough room to really get it punched into the hole. So, I've kind of worked my wires back here out of the way and I'm gonna take this grinding bit and just kind of grind away some of the body of our RV here so that I can get this up inside. So, that it's all out of the way. We're not gonna have to worry about any water getting in and contacting it and ruining anything. Like I said, we'll just keep trying to chip away at this and then test it out. We don't wanna take too much off. But you will notice on most of your trailers, it is gonna be a real tight fit. Looks like we got just enough there. So, we can start pushing in the rest of our wiring. And with that in place, we can go ahead and put our factory camera back up and then just recock around it. The cock on here kind of just split right off as I was pulling it off. So, not really the bust and water protection. So, I'm gonna go ahead and make sure that we get this nice and cleaned up. So, under your camera there's gonna be a little pairing button, have to tilt it up just to get to it just a little rubber button. You had to press it kind of hard to get it paired up. So, we're gonna sit there and hold that in place. Now with power running to our running light circuit I'm gonna go ahead and start pairing our back camera. So, as you can see we are now paired and our rear camera is working. Thanks to our filter. Let's go ahead and check. Sometimes your cameras are kind of auto paired and you won't have to actually go through the whole pairing process. So, let's make sure that our left and our right cameras are now working. So, we can see out of our left, and we can see out of our right. So, we know all of our cameras are now functioning properly now that they're getting the correct amount of voltage to 'em. Thanks to the PWM filter that we just installed. So, Mercedes-Benz owners have been having another issue that's been the rear camera actually working but our side camera is not switching over whenever we use our turn signal. So, this is gonna be another fix that our PWM filter is going to handle. So, let me go through and show you exactly how to get to that. 'Cause this is another question that we get regularly. So, on the side of your monitor, you will find a button, you can press it to go to your settings. It's set up, we wanna make sure that our LCD auto is off, which it is right now. So, we can go back. Go back to our camera view and if we double tap this view, all button's gonna pop up. We can click that and it's gonna show us all camera views that we have. So, right now I'm gonna turn on our left turn signal and you'll see that it'll switch over. And now we can go to our right, when I put it back it's gonna go back to our main screen and here's our right. So, the issue before without the PWM filter is that it wasn't switching back and forth to our camera views. So, let's go ahead and do a little test run. We're gonna take this up onto the road and show you exactly how it works. So, as you can see, we're up on the highway now. We're on a two lane road. Seeing out of our mirrors isn't always the clearest. You may not see that car in your blind spot. So, we're gonna turn on our camera here. We're gonna switch to that view and now I can see there's nobody near us. I can safely get over because I'm gonna have to make our left turn right up here. And the second that I turn off my turn signal it goes right back to my view all mode. So, that I can see all around me and behind me that way I know if anybody's getting too close or if I need to slow down or anything like that. And we're gonna use our left turn signal again to pull back into our parking lot. One other thing I wanted to mention is if you're having issues where your monitor keeps switching from your view all back to your rear camera, all you need to do is hit your button, go back to your settings and then make sure that your auto display is also off as well. And since we only have three cameras, I'm also going to switch our view to tri-view. If later on down the road our neighbor want add in a fourth one then I'd switch it back to that. It's just gonna give you a little bit better view of the camera angles just because the picture will be a little bit wider than a quad. Well, I think that about does it for today's installation of the Voyager PWM filter here on our 2021 Thor motor coach Coleman series 24 EQ class C motor home. My name's Kevin. Thanks for watching..

12-Volt PWM filter prevents camera dropouts on your RV backup camera system. Works on 2021 and newer Chevy and GM trucks with advanced tow packages and other vehicles with PWM. Splices into your camera system's wiring with included connectors.

by:

The filter seems to have solved the issue. I have tested it in the driveway only, but see no reason it wouldn't continue working on the road. Maybe etrailer can place a note on the Furrion products about this issue with certain make/model TVs. I would have purchased the filter at the same time as the camera and avoided the frustration/time to correct.

The install is very simple as I just spliced the filter in between the power supply and the camera. I had easy access to the wiring on the inside of the rig which made the install a 15 min. job.

@MikeL I have the Furion, Visions S. With a 4.3c monitor. Vehicle: 2017, Silverado HD, LTZ

This filter counters all of the issues I had with a GMC truck and now a Land Rover Defender in getting my trailer rear camera to work. The parking light circuit on those two, and I assume many other, vehicles doesn't have enough power(?) to keep the cameras working. This filter wired between the camera and the vehicle solves that issue!

by:

I installed the part on the RV the other day I took the installation to a new level by actually soldering the ends and shrink wrapping. I did not have enough room behind the RV skin to insert the part but luckily there was enough room behind the camera housing to touch the part inside.I silicone put everything together tested the unit and it seems to be running flawlessly and also staying constantly i'm sending some pics

Great product! I originally called in to ask if this product is supported on my 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500, as it states online that it is for years starting in 2021, and was told they don’t have enough information but pointed me to the manufacturer. I called them and they said they don’t have any info as they specialize only on their cameras and not support for the vehicles. Well I finally called back etrailer and asked what the return policy was and was assured that if it didn’t work on my truck they would be happy to help me return the product. I ordered it, installed it, and it worked! Praise the Lord! Thank you for the support through this process. My rear RV camera now would turn on when connected.

If you have a new vehicle that runs the lights on a PWM system then this part is what you need. Install easily behind my 21 Rockwood Trailer rear view furion camera system that has the side cameras also. All camera started receiving a good voltage to send the data to the receiver in the truck. No More flickering screen or powering on and off. Super easy install. Real basic and straightforward.

by:

Didn't work with my Silverado 2500 HD and Keystone Cougar TT. The rear camera has power ( it sometimes comes up on the display and can I change contrast, etc in settings ), but I can't get all three cameras to display (Furion Vision S system). Disappointed that I didn't win the "it works" lottery.

by:

I recently purchased the VGR64VR PWM filter to enable using the Furrion Vision S Camera system with my 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. The adapter successfully enabled the camera to work with my truck, providing clear and reliable visuals which greatly enhance my driving experience, especially when towing.

However, I encountered an issue where the truck's Driver Information Center (DIC) displays an error message about the trailer lights whenever the trailer is connected. I tested the trailer with another 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and the same error appeared, indicating that the issue is likely related to the adapter itself.

Despite this inconvenience, the adapter performs well in its primary function of enabling the camera system. Therefore, I rate this product 4 out of 5 stars due to the persistent error message.

This works with 2025 Silverado using Furrion S camera. Image was cycling on and off every few seconds. I spliced this into trailer wiring at camera location using pigtail included with camera. Was able to tuck all wiring in behind camera.

The 12V PWM filter prevents the video feed from dropping. 2024 Tundra and Furrion S+ camera. Thanks.

by:

It doesn’t work for my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and my 2024 Grand Design Imagine trailer. When I attach my Furrion Vision S side cameras to a 12 volt battery the cameras work When I install the PWM Filter there is no power to the cameras. I little frustrating after spending money on this and it’s non refundable. I contacted etrailer about possible troubleshooting options and they suggested I contact Furrion This is after I purchased the 7-way vehicle adapter (also non-refundable) last fall that was supposed to to fix this problem with the cameras. Funny how some reviews say that the PWM filter worked perfectly. Not in my case.

by:

Exactly what I needed to fix the camera for my travel trailer and 2022 Silverado 2500, due to the frequency the newer trucks come with and aftermarket cameras.

Super easy to install.

Had bought a 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500hd and my furrion backup camera would flicker on and off, this fixed the issue

Ordered this because I wasn't getting image on my camera after getting a new truck. 2021 GMC 1500 Denali. Still having the same issue. Same symptoms as before, the camera has the blue light to indicate power, still no image.

@MikeM Thanks for letting me know, I do not have a database that supplies us with what is put on what camper, that would be quite the infinite list if one did exist, I just need to verify that you do have the Voyager camera system and not Furrion?

by:

Perfect solution! Got a new Chevy 2500 and the furrion backup camera was dropping singal every few seconds. Now it works perfectly! Easy install. Was able to stuff the filter in the camper wall behind the camera mount.

by:

Solved the issue backup camera working great after adding the 12 volt power filter

by:

This fit like a glove. Fixed my furrion camera issue (not displaying) with my 2022 GMC Denali. Thanks etrailer for your great customer service & email follow up

by:

Allowed my camper back up camera to actually power on with my truck. Works great. No issues

by:

This solved the problem with my 2025 Chevy truck. Supposedly due to LED lights GM uses pulse technology in trailer lighting circuits. This is not enough current for the camera to be able to transmit video. My guess is the jumper has a capacitor and possible a diode that fixes the issue.

by:

Solves potentially expense problem to fix issues with Furion cameras losing signal due to low voltage after the ignition is turned on.

by:

etrailer identified my problem with my 2022 GMC’s compatibility with my trailer/rearview camera. Order the part, promptly arrived, good installation instructions and solved my problem.

by:

Not sure why GM messed with their electric management system on the Silverado’s but I’m glad you folks came up with this fix. Makes my camera work great!

by:

I pull a GD Imagine with a 2016 Silverado 1500 utilizing the cigarette lighter adapter for my Furrion Vision S+ 7" display with the rear trailer camera, and everything worked fine. Bought a 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 Diesel with the Max Trailering / Technology Package and the the camera would show an image for a second, then say "no signal". It would repeat this process for a minute and then completely cut out to "no signal". I was using the USB A to USB C cable adapter that the Furrion Vision S+ 7" monitor comes with since new trucks don't have cigarette lighters, and that was not the issue. I installed this PMV filter to the rear Furrion Camera within the existing housing (didn't need to make cuts or bigger holes in the trailer) and the camera started working with ZERO issues. P.S. if you pay for their expedited shipping, it's worth it because it actually gets delivered within a day or two (I ordered it Monday night in SoCal and got it Wednesday morning before I left for my camping trip). Good work eTrailer.com

by:

I returned this item. However the 7 connector PWM filter works great.

by:

Product works like it should and now my Furrion camera is working properly.

  • Picking Between GM Trailer Wiring Adapters for Use with Furrion Vision S
So I really like the hardwire adapter solution part # VGR64VR since it's more permanent and allows you to use the Furrion Vision S # FOS07TASF with a newer GM truck. If you planned to power the turn signal cameras with the running light circuit you'd only need to use one of these adapters. But if you wanted to use the turn signals as trigger wires you'd need three of the adapters or the part # FR87PR.

  • Troubleshooting Non-Working Sidemarker Cameras Of A Furrion Vision S RV Camera System
2020 and newer GM trucks use pulse width modulation which won't send enough power to properly operate a Furrion RV camera system. To solve this Furrion came out with the # FR87PR which corrects the problem by looping over power from the 12v circuit to the running light circuit. ASA Electronics made the # VGR64VR and it just so happened to also solve the power issue by storing power and properly feeding the main camera 12 volts and fixing the signal issues. You would only need to use one...

I believe you are looking for the 7-Way Vehicle Power Adapter # FR87PR that eliminates the PWM issue that causes the Furrion Vision S # FOS05TASF cameras not to get the power they need on the trailer. We also have the 12V PWM Filter # VGR64VR that you can wire in line of the camera if you prefer not to have to carry an adapter.

That is exactly what the adapter was designed to do. The Furrion # FR87PR is designed to provide the proper amount of voltage on the running lamp circuit of the 7-way so a camera system will receive enough power to operate reliably. Ford and GM 2019 models seem to have this issue. There's also now a more permanent solution, which is splicing in the PWM Filter # VGR64VR behind the camera to provide a steady current to the camera and clear up the signal issues.
