Video Transcript for Redarc 60-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Redarc's midi fuse kit. These are available in forty, sixty or one hundred amps. Many of our customers compare these to standard automotive fuses or circuit breakers and the main reason you would want to opt for this fuse over a standard automotive fuse is that the fuse attachment points are screwed down. This ensures that there will be a good connection between our fuse and our circuits for those high amp drawing components.Circuit breakers can typically build heat under long periods of exposure to high amperage draw, which could cause extra resistance and potentially cause that circuit breaker to pop, requiring you to disconnect it to reset it. Whereas these, don't build as much heat and are going to be more suited for those high amp applications these are going to be heavy duty fuses that will give you overload protection for whatever circuits you install them on. What this means, is if you have a short or fault on a circuit on the other side of the fuse, rather than it causing damage to the wiring and circuits on your vehicle, it simply opens the fuse, allows you to make the repairs that you need to fix that wiring and then simply replace it with a new fuse. The kits come with two fuse holders, four fuses and four ring terminals to make connections for your wiring to connect to your fuses on each side.

To mount it, you will need to provide your own screws, they don't come included with the kit. We just use some self tapping screws here, to get this one mounted. Depending on where you mount it, you may want to use a different type of attachment point.Typical applications use this form for high current drawing components, such as numerous lights inside of a camper or RV. We're using ours with our BCDC charging system on our camper here. And, that completes our look at Redarc's midi fuse kit..

  • Charger Recommendation for Charging Battery of Dump Trailer
For a charger for your trailer's battery the best option we have is the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D which is designed for putting up to a 40 amp charge on a battery that is rated higher than 200 amp-hours. The fuse kit you'll need then is the # 331-FK60. I know it's not exactly inexpensive but charging a larger battery while towing requires a special charger setup. For a 7-way with junction box to make wiring up the lighting and braking of your trailer the...

  • Recommended Truck Camper Dual Battery Charging System
The NOCO Genius Mini On-Board Battery Charger - AC to DC - 2-Bank - 8 Amp # 329-GENM2 will work for a shore power to batter power charger for batteries up to 120 amp hours. If your batteries are larger then you will need the NOCO Genius On-Board Battery Charger - AC to DC - 4-Bank - 40 Amp - 12V # 329-GEN4 to charge batteries up to 230 amp hours. Most truck campers will instead use a DC to DC charger for the camper batteries. If your batteries are under 200 amp hours, I recommend the...

  • Are Redarc Battery Chargers # BCDC1225D and # BCDC1240D Compatible with AGM and Lithium Batteries
Yes, both of the BCDC Redarc batteries, part # 331-BCDC1225D and part # 331-BCDC1240D, are compatible with AGM, gel, standard lead acid, calcium, and Lithium ion (LiFePO4) batteries. The wiring configuration will be very similar between the two. You will just need a low voltage disconnect when using the Lithium Ion battery as you can see in the attached photos. To get the proper fuses you will need the 40-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit # 331-FK40 for part # 331-BCDC1225D, or the 60-Amp MIDI Fuse...

  • Recommended RV Shore Power to Lithium Battery RV Converter and Engine Alternator to Lithum Charger
The Progressive Dynamics PD9100 Series Inteli-Power Converter - Lithium - 12 Volts - 60 Amps # PD9160ALV will allow up to 60 amps power draw. It sounds like you are able to pull more, so I recommend upgrading to the 80 amp # PD9180ALV. This will charge your batteries in about 2 hours give or take. If you want to charge your battery while driving, I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 40 Amp # 331-BCDC1240D along with the 60-Amp...

You will also need to use the 60-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit for Redarc In-Vehicle 40-Amp BCDC Battery Charger # 331-FK60. This prevents your alternator being overloaded and it won't back-feed your alternator either. This system is rated for AGM or Lithium...

  • How To Attach the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger To the Start Battery
The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # 331-BCDC1250D needs to be installed on the trailer, next to the service/auxiliary batteries. That said, this now means you must run a wire from the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger to the start battery in your vehicle. The correct size wire to use will vary based on total length as you mentioned. I recommend you go pretty large so you don't have to worry about issues with length or voltage drop. We actually have a kit that will work...

  • Recommended In-Vehicle Battery Charger for House Battery on Ford Transit
The Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator # 331-SBI212D referenced in your question will install between your Ford Transit's start battery and house battery. This will essentially pull power from either battery in an effort to keep both charged. It can potentially charge the house battery to 100%, but this is dependent on the start battery being completely charged as well, which likely won't be the case for the most part. This particular product isn't so much a standard battery charger, but...

  • RV Battery Charger and Portable Solar Panel System for Boondocking
Yes, Redarc DC to DC battery charger # 331-BCDC1240D is the right choice for charging your trailer's 540-amp battery bank. This unit can mount in the cabin of your vehicle, along a chassis frame rail, or in the engine compartment and it will connect to the vehicle's battery for input power, not to your 7-way. Use the heaviest gauge wire you can for all connections. Redarc recommends 6-gauge for runs up to 16-feet and 4-gauge for longer runs; this applies to battery input power, solar...

The input to the BCDC Charger will be sourced from your F-250's start battery (which is going to be on the passenger's side of your 2-battery set-up) with the 60-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit for Redarc In-Vehicle 40-Amp BCDC Battery...
