How do I Trickle Charge a Battery on my Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/03/2025

Question:

Hi im thinking about purchasing this. I currently use a stand alone 12V battery to operate a hydraulic pump for a trailer. the trailer battery that I have now is a 12 V automotive battery that I use a trickle charger when a Recharge is needed. Can I keep this DVDC in place With the trailer not attached to my vehicle while I attach the battery terminals to a trickle charger without damaging anything so I can charge a dead battery with the DCDC device in place? Two thousand eight silverado h d attached with a seven pin connector to a trailer period were they separately enclosed battery that runs a hydraulic pump. Thank you

Hey Robert, this is a really great question.

In short, you can use the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Trailer Battery Charger part # RED36TR to charge your battery on your trailer. There are some extra parts you will want to pick up as well.

60-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit Part # 331-FK60 (need this between the charger and the battery)
Battery to Fuse Holder Cable for Part # RED66FR (need this to go from the MIDI fuse to the battery)

I also included some pictures showing a diagram. Redarc is really good as making diagrams for various setup and situations. This one is just their version of a "basic" set up.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for or if I missed the mark at all. If I did, let me know with a comment!

Hey Robert, how did things go with the Redarc BCDC charger on your trailer setup? Were you able to keep it connected while using the trickle charger without any issues? Your update could make it easier for others running a similar hydraulic pump system.
