Video Transcript for Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator Manufacturer Demo

The Smart Battery Isolator, or SBI, allows your auxiliary battery to charge from the alternator while the vehicle is running, and protect the start battery from discharging when the engine is off. It can also be used in conjunction with an in-vehicle battery charger, or BCDC, to allow the start battery to be jump-started from the auxiliary battery in the event that the start battery is discharged or fails. This product works best with standard alternators, not with smart or variable alternatives. In a dual battery set up where one battery is used as a starter battery to operate the vehicle and one as a secondary to run electrical devices, the SBI ensures your start battery doesn't run flat when you use your secondary battery, while the engine is turned off. When the engine is turned off, and therefore the alternator is no longer running, the start battery will drop below 12.7 volts and the SBI will disengage the secondary battery. This will stop any loads connected to the auxiliary battery from draining the start battery. The Smart Battery Isolator comes in 12 and 24 volt, both 100 and 200 amp models, and a dual sensing range is also available. You can pair the Smart Battery Isolator with in-vehicle battery chargers, which will allow the start battery to be jump-started from the auxiliary battery in the event that the start battery is discharged or fails. When programmed as a low disconnect isolator, it can also be paired with battery management systems to protect the auxiliary battery from excessive discharge. The Smart Battery Isolator is ideal for four-by-fours, motor homes, marine craft, and heavy industrial vehicles.(silence).

Ask the Experts about this Redarc Battery Charger

  • How to Tell if 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500 Has Smart Alternator
I believe you are talking about a smart alternator and from my understanding your 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500 shouldn't have one so you'll be good to use the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D with the Redarc Smart Start Load Disconnect # 331-SBI12-LLD. A normal alternator has a constant output of the same amount of power while a smart alternator can vary the power output depending on what the vehicle demands. Typically these are found on economy or high-end cars but...

  • Using Redarc Battery Isolator on Boat with Two Engines and Batteries
This is a really good question. I spoke with my contact at Redarc and this is what they sent me: There are a few variables to the application but realistically keeping each engine with its own starting battery is recommended. The reason behind this is if there was an issue with one engine, you will always be able to run the other. My assumption is that your customer is wanting to run auxiliary equipment. If this is the case then another battery or battery bank is required and then...

  • Best Way to Charge Auxiliary Lithium Ion Battery on 2019 Ram ProMaster
The best way to charge your auxiliary LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery from the main battery of your 2019 Ram ProMaster is with the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D. This was designed for larger batteries and it has a built-in smart charging system that reads what kind of battery is being charged and then it adjusts the amount of power output so that the battery isn't damaged and that it gets the most efficient charge possible. Redarc recommends using the 60-Amp MIDI...

  • Charging Lithium Trailer Batteries While Driving
Yes, your solution is a DC to DC charger as there is not a "good" way to charge your 100Ahr trailer battery using your Tacoma's 7 pin connection only. You will get some low amperage trickle-charge while hooked up and the alternator running, but not enough to fully charge your trailer battery. For systems where your trailer batteries are rated for 75-200 Amp-hours, use the Redarc # 331-BCDC1225D 25-Amp, Dual-Input DC-DC Charger. You will additionally need three Redarc # 331-FK40, 40-Amp...

  • Battery Isolator that Can be Used with Smart Alternator as well as Lithium Battery
The Redarc Isolator part # 331-SBI212D does work with smart alternators but since Lithium batteries charge at a higher voltage you'd need to go with a different isolator if you do switch to Lithium batteries like with the part # 331-SBI12-LLD instead.
